Here's what we ordered and loved: - Raw Bar: Peruvian Scallops were delicious; Colossal Shrimp were good but not truly "Colossal" - Nashville hot fried catfish - best choice we made! so good. - Edisto Island Cornbread - MUST TRY and hear me out ... add a dash of the green hot sauce. You're welcome! Mocktails - "Smoke and Mirrors" was super refreshing and "Gussied up" tasted like an espresso martini! Now, if you grew up eating soul food, like me, I do have some notes. - the Sunday Greens are just ok. They needed a little more seasoning unfortunately even after we tried adding a little salt. - seafood gumbo - similar to the greens, there was some flavor missing there unfortunately. Might give the greens another try, but think I'd try another dish over the gumbo next time. They still get 5 from me and I will definitely be back to try this one again!!

When we arrived around 6 PM on a Monday evening, we were the only party seated at tables, with the other handful of guests at the bar. Despite the uncrowded conditions, our server was not the most attentive or detail oriented. We had ordered 3 entrees and 3 appetizers and were hopeful that the food would make it out on time before walking over to Crypto Arena. However, as our meal was winding down, we called the server over to cancel one of the entrees, only to find that he hadn't noted that we ordered it. Overall, the food was ok, but the poor service makes me a bit less inclined to visit again.

The food was absolutely unmatched; seasoned to perfection, soulful, and made with so much love you could taste it in every bite. But what truly made this experience special was Annie herself. Seeing the owner out on the floor serving, entertaining, and genuinely connecting with her patrons was something you don't see often anymore. She made every person in that room feel like family, and that warmth carried through the entire restaurant. From the incredible food to the unforgettable hospitality, Annie's Soul Delicious gave us an experience we'll never forget. If you're looking for amazing soul food and a place that feels like home, this is it. We are looking forward to our next visit to L.A just to return to Annie's

The server was nice, she gave us a run down of the menu and promptly took our order. Staff are always walking around the small space helping all the tables. Pictures show cultural and imaginary images, very eclectic. They provided complimentary mini corn muffins with an addictive butter. We munched on those until the food came out. We each ordered a variation of their meats and sides. My 3 friends consensus on their meals was good on most of their dishes. 1st meal-Wings, cabbage/greens mix, yams, Mac n cheese 2nd meal- Lemon pepper fish, cabbage/greens mix, yams, Brussel sprouts 3rd meal-Fried chicken, cabbage/greens mix, yams, Mac n cheese I ordered lemon pepper shrimp, greens, brussel sprouts, Mac n cheese. My plate was cool. The lemon pepper shrimp were soft not crunchy and grainy with the bite. My greens lacked flavor, I wish I got the cabbage/greens mix like the others. We all ordered different flavors of the kool-aid. They were all tasty.

Luckily, while out in LA in close proximity to Chinatown, the husband was reminded of Little Jewel. There was no question where we were headed next. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in and handed some menus. We were told to take our time, which was needed since everything sounded so good and the husband kept changing his mind on what to order. We finally settled on the Spicy Creole Jambalaya, Craw Mac Deluxe and The Crabster. It all came out hot, fresh and so satisfyingly delicious! The spice level was perfect. Portions were generous. We had initially planned on having beignets but did not have any more room -- even the dessert pocket was full! The atmosphere is very relaxed. They have several tables in the main dining area and the bar section. Orders are placed and picked up at the front counter. Everyone is super friendly. Parking can get a tricky in Chinatown. There are several flat rate lots if you're planning on spending some time. Metered parking is best for short term visits if you can find it -- we paid $4.30 for an hour.

Although it's no longer my FAVORITE food and I only indulge sparingly, I still have an affinity for it, and can quickly separate the good from the bad. Willie Mae's can confidently go into the good pile. The perfect texture of the batter is the standout. It's light and crisp. Head to head, I think I prefer the flavors and juiciness of Gus's fried chicken. I'll have to give Willie Mae's another go to confirm that this is indeed the case. But Willie Mae's is situated in a better area, it's got civilized sit down table service, cuter decor, and it has way better sides. Knowing myself, I predict that one day, I will decide to remove poultry as well from my diet (I've long excluded mammals from my diet). Hopefully more visits to Willie Mae's will happen before that day organically comes upon us.

Since I do not live in the area, it was not a convenient situation. During this recent DineLA restaurant week, I met a friend there for lunch. Now they have a fairly large sit down dining room that was quite busy and it seems like there was a steady stream of takeout. Our server, Desiree was fantastic. She told me this branch was started by the same folks of the original in New Orleans. Due to a an issue with the freeway closure and horrible traffic, we were very late and she kindly honored our reservation. The food was fantastic. Great crunchy and spice on the chicken (it is on the spicy side so be careful if you cannot handle the heat). The little corn breads were just the right amount. We tried the yams, which is a must, but also shared some of the other sides. The cabbage is cooked kind of like collard greens. The butter beans and rice is very tasty. We also tried the mashed potatoes and gravy. All sides are vegan, which I thought was done for the local L.A. crowd, but we were told the sides are vegan in the original recipes. Next time I'd like to try the gumbo and other dishes on the menu.

Bludso's brisket is tender and marinated just right. While some briskets are too salty, Bludso's maintains a light and balanced flavor profile, which lets me enjoy the flavor of the beef. However, be warned that some leaner cuts might be a tad bit dry. The pork ribs were also great. although they weren't "fall off the bone" soft, it's still one of the best ones I've had in LA. The sides were also good. They weren't mind blowing but they were definitely comforting. Overall, Bludso's is a great BBQ spot that I would come to again and again. Definitely one of the best in LA. Note: I do have to say that if you're from Texas, you might not be "wow'd". Franklin BBQ in Austin is leagues above both Bludso's and Moo's (first time in my life having brisket melt in my mouth!!). But if you've never left LA, Bludso's will probably be the some of the best BBQ you've had in your life!

Sauces were good, tasty but not memorable. For LA this is probably decent BBQ, would probably go back, but would not go out of my way.
