Despite the work no hassle or any inconvenience arose; the alternative breakfast room was well prepared, excellently done! A place where I'd like to stay over-night as well!

One of the most enjoyable stays from any other B&B's I've been to…read more... The brothers (owners) are all very attentive and helpful. The place was spotless and we were lucky enough to have our own bathroom. Location was nice and not too far away from downtown and quiet enough to get a good night sleep. The beds!! Are very comfortable and we loved the complimentary breakfast in the morning. One of the saddest parts of the trip was needing to leave this B&B. Totally made this vacation worthwhile and enjoyable. We plan to return and stay here at our next visit to Ireland.

Beautiful B&B owned by 3 brothers who bought and refurbished the place in memory of their late mother (Marie) hence the name, Marie's Bed & Breakfast! All three brothers are on the property and very attentive and helpful! Beautiful B&B with lovely rooms and bathroom!Also, the whole place is so clean!! We got the twin bed room with the garden view and private bathroom/shower. Very relaxing and friendly environment. Literally, can't think of anything that I would want or need. We mentioned that we were planning on taking a cab into central dublin downtown for tours and they coordinated and called a taxi/cab for us for every day!! The rooms and bathroom was cleaned every day when we left for our excursions. And it's always so nice and welcoming to be back after a long day. Clean shower, and comfortable beds are what makes it even more memorable to a great vacation. If you have questions they will answer it! Need a good game plan for a trip in town? Done! Or a side trip to a nice area where is not a tourist trap? Done! Definitely reccomend you stay here. No regrets! Highly highly recommend to family and friends!

This hotel is in a great location right on the river and at the doorstep of the Temple Bar area…read more The hotel does not have a lobby and its a very tight squeeze if several people are trying to check in at the same time. The room was perfect for a couple and the bed was quite comfortable. The room we were assigned to had a wonderful view of the river. The street below can become quite noisy at night but, if you close the windows you should be able to sleep soundly.

The bus stops outside the door, so if you don't mind a bus ride you should be fine. What makes this place great is the owners. It was sort of like staying with friends. The owner was always available with directions, recommendations. The owner also recommended the Hertz shop down the road (5 minute walk down circular) which was awesome way for us to leave and return to Dublin. When we returned "sure you can use my garage." Which was nice, the 16A bus might come to his doorstep, but it is a LONG bus ride (1hr30min) from the Airport. Breakfast was good. Our room had a bathroom (en suite as they say). Price was $40 Euro a person. The room was quiet, we were never disturbed! Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend it. As rick steve's might say 1/2 the price for 2x the cultural immersion. Too bad I didn't know yelp was in Dublin before I went (I would of found restaurants!)

My friends visited recently and wanted to book a B&B. I recommended this spot in the Portobello…read moreneighborhood. I also stopped by and was given a tour of all the rooms. It has been renovated / remodeled relatively recently. Although the front room could use a 'perk me up', the bedrooms were really nice! The rates are great and include a 'made to order' breakfast. My friends loved it and were grateful for the recommendation. The B&B is run by a husband and wife team. The husband is pretty talkative and volunteers recommendations freely. He immediately welcomed me into the space and offered a full tour. As for convenience, the bus stop is right outside the front door and is conveniently an hour or so from DUB airport. A walk to City Center is about 20 minutes and the canal is about five minutes. I recommend this spot for singles or couples. It's warm and welcoming and the rooms are really nice!

The stay was very enjoyable and there's parking for your car which we were very grateful for. There's breakfast included and it was delicious. The dining room was cute and the windows were large, creating a nice atmosphere. They also serve tea/coffee and treats in their waiting room for free as well. Overall, a really great experience. The hotel is a bit far from the center of Dublin, but the dart is only 2 mins down the street and very easy to take into town.

We definitely missed the anticipated view and the anticipated relaxing tub bath after a long day of travel. We like to play table games in the evening but without a table this was not possible. Also, no heating for the room, and no exhaust or window in the bathroom to vent steam after shower. We had to leave the window open for fresh air but this made the room too cold. Also the lobby and our room smelled strongly of incense!

They are definitely two of the nicest people we have met during our stay in Ireland. The rooms are big. Plenty of space to move around and keep your luggage out in the open. The beds are comfy, too. To avoid noise ask for a room towards the rear of the building. The bathrooms work well but the showers are small. You will have a tough time shaving your legs. No bar soap or conditioner but plenty of liquid soap and shampoo. Breakfast is awesome. We got the Irish breakfast daily. The egg has the right amount of salt. The ham is delicious. The Irish pudding tastes great too. The location of this bed and breakfast is right around the corner from the heuston train station, which was perfect for our railtours agenda. There are a few pubs/restaurants across the street and the Phoenix park right next door.

So wrote Patrick Kavanagh who lived first on Pembroke Street round the corner from 1946 to 1958 and then at 19 Raglan Road itself from 1958 to 1959, (which is now the Mexican Embassy). The poem, originally entitled "Dark-haired Miriam ran away", is really all about Hilda Moriarty, a 22year old medical student at University College Dublin. Paddy loved her, but Hilda who was 20 years younger, although flattered did not reciprocate his desire. Undaunted he had the idea of setting the lines to the traditional air "The Dawning of the Day" (Fáinne Geal an Lae). Later on Luke Kelly of The Dubliners was having a drink with him one day and asked if he could record it, and so was born one of the most famous Irish songs of recent times. It's become a bit of a standard, My favourite is Sinéad O'Connor's hauntingly beautiful version, and to have such a womans voice singing Paddy's heartfelt words gives it added poignancy. Paddy never had much money, despite literary success, seemingly being as unlucky with his finances as he was with his choice of females. His upstairs flat apparently had a mirror positioned in the window in such a way that it would alert Paddy when creditors or other undesirables came calling! Of course the days when well to do Ballsbridge played home to penniless writers living in upstairs bedsits have long since gone, but if you love the poem and song, and Patrick as much as I do, a visit here, particularly in the Autumn is magical. And as you cross the wide & relatively quiet, tree-lined avenue it is easy to imagine the "Quiet street where old ghosts meet", and and...sadly...a beautiful dark-haired Irish girl walking away "from me so hurriedly," even if reason must allow. I make the journey along Mount Street & then up Northumberland & Pembroke Roads to here every time I'm in Dublin not only because I'm as hopeless a romantic as Patrick, but also because his work for me represents the deeper creative & cultural Ireland, the magic, and the real enchanted way. I found the Blackstone House online on Daft.ie. They offered exactly what I needed: A private room with a bathroom, always on broadband, a fridge and a water kettle for an affordable price (for a week or longer). Also it's located in Rathmines which is a good central area to live in. The owners Kate and William are nice people, very discrete and helpful. For instance I was offered a bigger room if I had to stay longer. I appreciate that. What I don't understand with many Irish B&Bs, especially in Dublin, is why their owners decide to neglect their property. Why no development and investment. Why is there no effort to maintain or even increase the value of their premises? My room - despite being ridiculously small - is extremely dark, old and patchy. I am looking at the backyard which is a disgrace. It's full of rubbish with old tins of paint and dirty cloths on the half built terrace. The whole house is dark with too few windows. It has potential though. It would need some reinvestment to make it a warm, bright and welcoming place. That said: All inside - despite being old and messy - is pretty clean. And I guess for me that's a priority. So I still recommend that B&B. Just take the lack of standard as the full touristic experience. You didn't want some faceless Hilton or InterContinental so you found the somewhat dark character of the Blackstone House.
