The shrimp was flavorful and the salad bright. I used some of the cilantro salsa that came with the chips as dressing and it was great. It happened to be my birthday and they brought out some churros as a treat, which was really nice. The churros, however, were pretty bad. Super dense and chewy. The service definitely added an extra star and that waiter (I didn't get her name) should get some recognition. I would put this in the "group pleasing", "work happy hour" bucket of restaurants. I would never suggest but definitely wouldn't be upset if the group chose here.

They were pretty good, perhaps a little salty and needing more lime juice. At first, the restaurant seemed very noisy, but we eventually got used to it and could have a conversation. I enjoyed the quirky decorations, which seemed to evoke both a twentysomething's living room and a Mexican restaurant. The televisions had both sports and PBS Masterpiece, something for everyone. Despite the restaurant being busy, our server was attentive and friendly. More surprises: unisex bathrooms with a common sink area, and paper compostable takeout containers. In many ways this place seems to anticipate a forward-thinking young crowd. We left feeling nourished and not overstuffed. A good first visit to La Tapatia. I'm really not sure that's what they said, rather I'm sure it had to do with contamination of the eggs which isn't good, but I don't believe they said they couldn't make them anymore. Well they still have it on the menu and don't tell you it has changed when you order it. They literally put the Chile in the fryer by itself. They don't stuff it and only put a tiny bit of sauce and cheese on top. Chile relleno literally translates to stuffed Chile which it is not stuffed, so they should take it off their menu if they aren't going to serve it correctly anymore. When I asked the manager about it he seemed annoyed that I wasn't happy. To be honest the rest of their food isn't wonderful or worth coming as much as we did for the Chile rellenos. I won't be back unless I find out that they have started making them correctly again.

One item I recommend to try is their mega birria which is 1/2 lb of birria meat smothered in shredded cheese, on a 18" corn tortilla with cilantro, onion, served with a cup of consume and side of limes. You can order at the kiosks and pick up your food within less than 10 minutes which makes a quick service. The restaurant has several tables you can sit at and nice music on to enjoy. Each Taco Libre has their own decorations and this is also one of my favorite with part of a wall full of jarritos bottles.
