Whoa! Where did this place come from?! We were invited here by my sister and her boyfriend. Honestly, I was craving a burrito from Burrito Amigos, but I'm sure glad we decided to meet up with them! This restaurant doesn't look special on the outside, sort of just a run down little red building, but the inside is gorgeous! I had the taco burrito special. I thought it would be just one burrito, but came with rice and beans. It was the perfect amount! They did forget my guac, but I was so surprised by the food, I wasn't even mad. Their salsa is to die for also! Great food and great service, their staff was super nice! We will definitely be returning. I may have found my new favorite place for Mexican food! read more

Excellent Mexican in Eugene! They have several vegetarian entrees on the back of the menu that can be made vegan. Love the red and green salsa as the latter is quite spicy which is a good thing in my opinion. Love the pickled carrots. Have been here twice for dinner. The first time we tried the veggie fajitas which were huge and fine to share leaving us even with a bit to take out. The enchiladas were smaller than the fajitas and fine to share. read more

We went to Tio Pepe for the first time tonight, and had a very good experience. I ordered combo #2 (2 enchiladas and the green corn tamale). Everything was very good! I've been experimenting with my own enchiladas for a few years now, and I was very impressed with theirs (I wish they could show me their trick). The sauce had great flavor, the meat and cheese ratio was just right for my taste, and everything was comfort-food oriented to the max (soft and melty). I only wish I had enough room to finish everything. This place is likely the best Mexican food in town. My only complaint is with the service. Our waiter was running around like crazy. I think it was unexpectedly busy for a Monday night. He was very nice and apologetic, but we had to wait too long to order, and had to flag him down as he rushed by for just about everything we wanted. read more

Love Love Love this place! I went on a Tuesday afternoon, just because I tried Monday without checking if its open and yup! it was closed (Meh, user error). So, this time I checked and went the next day. I had been craving for some Mexican food for so long and this place was everything I wished for. The decor is very vibrant and colorful, just like Mexico. I went with a group of coworkers and we were escorted to our table. While we were looking at the menu, we got some chips and salsa, which was delicious by the way. They were very generous in giving everyone their own salsa and lots of chips. The service was great and the staff was super friendly. I ordered some chicken chimichanga for a sit down lunch and tacos to-go. We got our food in less than 10 mins and it was *Amazing*. The chimichanga was perfectly cooked with savory spicy flavors and sour cream and guac on top. I also got rice and beans on the side.Yum yum yum! The portion was big enough but I managed to finish it all in one sitting. When I was done with my food, they gave me tacos in a box too with chips and salsa packed as well. I was very pleased to know that. Overall, it was a successful trip to this place and highly recommend trying it out. Oh! The prices are super reasonable. The food here is decent but the dining experience will destroy it for you. These people will look you dead in the eyes and walk past you when you need help. the service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. They didn't bring us silverware, water, or napkins, then proceeded to help the table directly next to us. I had to get up to ask for help 3 times. On top of that our order was messed up but nobody came and checked to see how we were doing. Waited another 20 mins after eating to pay for my check. As I'm waiting on our server again, he helps the table that arrived after us and takes their payment while I'm still waiting. Pretty disappointing when you have to serve yourself at a sit down restaurant. So if you want some better service than this place, I would recommend a Taco Bell. read more

I am truly shocked by some of the bad reviews. Tio Pepe is our go to place. They treat us like family, and we always have a good experience. Have had many birthday and other celebrations here over the years. They are so gracious and handle a large party really well (we call ahead and sit in the big room so we won't disturb other patrons)...Their food is amazing. Haven't ever had a bad meal and we eat her at least once a week. The servers are great as well. Delicious margaritas. Chips and salsa on point (ask for the salsa verde, it's amazing). I didn't think I'd find some Mexican food here in Oregon but my wife and I trusted Yelp a few nights ago and this place is great! It is authentic and reminds me of home. The owners are the ones running the show and it is evident because it is clean and excellent. Their prices are fair and the serving are generous. They have a so called vegetarian section on their menu, but when I asked an employee to verify their rice is cooked in vegetable broth and not chicken stock/paste they returned to say the chef thinks it's vegetarian but isn't sure. first of all I wanted to say terrible service got seated down then waited for about 15 minutes to get my order taken then we waited 25 more minutes for are food then we got overcharged for the food some employees don't even acknowledge that you are there back then when the original owner was there you get a glass of water and good service now it's a crappy owner doesn't even give you water chips where cold salsa was alright then we had cameras facing us while we where eating and most restaurants don't have cameras where people are eating.overall terrible service and food. read more

The employees had a weird attitude towards us. We were supposed to be charged 5.5$, however, the lady charged us 6.5$. It was only when we accidentally put in the wrong pin code did her co-worker said that the total amount is calculated wrong. If not, she would just let us pay more than we should have. The money was not worth it anyway, but it would be better if they say sorry or excuse me for the wrong calculation for courtesy. In their case, they acted like we weren't even there. read more

I like several dishes at Tio Pepe's, such as the Enchilada Supreme, and the burritos. Very tasty. However, 7 members of my family joined me there last night for my birthday, and it was NOT a good experience! There was no where you could stand that you were not in the way while waiting for a table. We were seated after a 10-15 minute wait and constantly had to move out of the waiters/waitress' way. They seated us in a room m where the AC was not working and it must have been 100° in there. They gave us NO water and it took a while before we got any drinks ordered and served to us. It took a good 20 minutes to get our food and by then we all needed a refill on our drinks. We all asked for refills which arrived as we were leaving. Once again, no place to stand while waiting to pay. My mother wanted to put the tip on her card when she paid and she was never given the option to do so. The waitress never got a tip because of this. My husband stepped into the other dining room o check their temperature, and it was downright chilly! So hot and uncomfortable in the room we ate in, so we left ASAP after eating. Such a disappointing experience! read more

I feel like I'm home when I'm here. The colors are beautiful, they're always playing awesome mariachi music and the food is delicious. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience here. It does get hella poppin sometimes and service may get a lil slow, but honestly, so worth the wait. I get chicken tortilla soup and a couple al pastor tacos when I come here and it's always fantastic. They also have a habanero salsa that's hella spicy and so tasty. This one is tough to handicap. The simple one sentence review: "It's four star food in a two star package." We tried this restaurant in part because of the reviews on Yelp. First the exterior appearance of the building gives the impression you should drive by and find a better restaurant. After we parked, it's not immediately apparent where the entrance is. The door was mostly blocked by a mini-van parked in front. The interior décor was typical and uninspired, but clean. Here's were business picks up. The wait staff was very friendly. I get the impression this is a family owned restaurant, it may not be, but if it isn't they have done a great making service a priority. Since we had not been there before, I asked the waiter for a recommendation. When you do this at some restaurants you get mixed results ranging from "I don't eat here", to "it just depends on what you like". At Tio Pepe's I was surprised to have the waiter enthusiastically describe and recommend three of his favorite dishes. The only service issue was the speed. The place wasn't very busy, but it seemed to take a while for the food to arrive. I decided on the Carne Tampiquena, and it was fantastic. Served with the requisite rice and beans, cheese enchilada, and choice of tortilla, the thinly sliced steak was topped with bacon and a fried plantain. My wife enjoyed her meal, and the only disappointment was from the kid's menu. My son didn't care for the beef taco, and after having a taste I can't say that I blame him. We will definitely go back, and if the food continues to impress, or they paint the exterior, I may up may rating to four stars. read more

I stumbled upon Tio Pepe's after I went to the doctor. Its not hard to miss, but a little tricky to get into (entrance is on the left side of the building) I am originally from L.A. and came to love authentic Mexican food at a young age. As I got older, it became a part of my regular routine, however, not always easy to find. Where ever I go, I am on the hunt for good, tasty, authentic Mexican food. Tio Pepe's hit the mark across the board. Additionally, the staff and the owner are sweet, accommodating and service was awesome. AND it has a full bar! I am a big fan. The food was absolutely amazing! The service was the worst experience of my dining out life. Don't get me wrong...everyone was really nice but other than taking our order, bringing us drinks and our food....we didn't get any other service. They asked us what we were drinking for refills but never refilled. My husband ordered the Fajitas and was only given 3 small tortillas and when we tried to ask them for more (he still had 75% of the meat left) they didn't stop at our table or even look our way. It's really sad that such awesome food comes with the worst service ever. They should hire a few more people. read more

Tio Pepe went through a rough patch, changing owners a few times. Not all the owners stuck with the original menu, or the attention to good service. The current owner is, however, doing a great job. My only quibble is they do not do unlimited refills on soft drinks or tea, and their price is on the high side for those drinks. So, I only order water there these days.. but the food is excellent and we are back to eating there regularly. I highly recommend them. read more

We have been looking for a new Mexican restaurant since moving back to Eugene. We liked the atmosphere at Tio Pepe and unlike other people our service was very good. I had the two tamale combo, my husband two enchiladas and a chile relleno. He said the relleno was not to doughy and good, I really enjoyed the tamales. Our kids liked the rice and beans. I've heard good things from several sources that Tio Pepe is an all around great choice for Mexican Food. After having visited a couple of times, I can't get past the significant saltiness of the food. My boyfriend raves about their re-fried beans ("they make them the real way, with lard!") The beans weren't bad, but after that comment, I chose not overindulge in said lardy beans. My burrito was decent in flavor, although one could say it was rather mild in spice, and served with generous sides. The boyfriend's fajitas were served hot and sizzling...and continued to sizzle so long that the meat was eventually overcooked and a little charred. The salt level of my flavor buds had reached their max, but service left much to be desired as my water never got refilled. I never considered myself to be sodium sensitive, but after a meal at Tio Pepe's, I found myself craving water in a new way. Bottom line, probably won't be back. read more

I've been three times now, and I'd have to say that this is probably the best Mexican food in Eugene, and not just Tex-Mex. For that, I'd say Chapala is fairly good, but this is more authentic. They serve menudo, coctel de camaron and a lot of my other Mexican and South American favorites. My favorite so far is the Carne Tampiquena, which comes with a thin, grilled steak, 2 strips of bacon, a cheese enchilada, sweet plantains (maduros) seasoned with cinnamon, rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. All of that for $11.95! You could spend more here, and the Parillada is similar with a bit more meat for and extra 3 bucks, but I haven't been able to bring myself to order that, lest I look like a glutton. The salsa and chips are also good, and my husband loves the ropa vieja and the carne asada tacos. Everything is reasonably priced and I haven't had anything I didn't like, although the shrimp in cream sauce was probably just a little heavier than I would have liked. Still, I will definitely go back to try as many dishes as possible, as it's right down the street from where I work out, so if I hit the gym first, I can feel a little less guilty about eating all that fatty food. read more

This unassuming place on River Road is in a no man's land surrounded by a whole lot of nothing much. It's not in walking distance from anything. The sign near the road is the only signal that it even exists. I've never seen them advertise. It's typical Tex-Mex inside with green and red tile inlaid on the tables and mariachi music playing. There's a full bar, and a separate dining room for private events as well as the main dining area. The room was half full on a Saturday evening when we arrived, and stayed that way for the hour or so we were there. We have had several meals here, but hadn't been back for a while, so we were confronted with new menus. The list is large, maybe too large, yet reduced from what it was on our first visit. A couple of items we had ordered in the past were not there anymore, but the kitchen could probably prepare them still if you wanted. DLW had a fajita burrito, all of the fixings from a fajita in a burrito, and none of the smoke. A few people had the full fajita effect, so the room was filled with the smell of burning soy sauce. I went for tacos al pastor, a go-to for me, and got two well-loaded tortillas with guacamole and pico on the side, plus a spare tortilla for picking up the droppings from the first two. Margarita and sangria were both good if not exceptional. Prices are a good value, and service is a bit better than average for Eugene. One of the better Mexican places in town, and a clear winner among the full service places. read more

Gotta say, I love Tio Pepe's. Being that I live in the neighborhood, I visit often. A few weeks ago I was in and pondering when a remodel might happen; Tio hasnt updated in a long time. Tonight I learned the restaurant has a new owner who has freshened up the decore (paint, chairs, decorations) and brightened it up. regular. Looks good and more inviting. I ordered my favorite, chili Colorado, and wasn't disappointed. The beef was tender and the chili was just spicy enough to make my taste buds happy. Of course the chips and salsa are always good, too. My dining partner had the carne asada and was happy with her meal. The staff is always attentive and friendly, bustling around to get the food out. The new owner has updated the ordering system and cash register making it more modern and quick. We met the owner who was friendly and very excited about his turn at running Tip Pepe's. The food was good and we were given the right portions, but a bit over priced for the ingredients used. My main focus will be the service. Being a Friday evening, I expected a crowd, but the restaurant was not full. The staff, however, seemed unorganized. We were into our second bowl of chips before we were offered a beverage. My dining partner received her food first; there were only two of us at the table. My food arrived a few minutes later; by then my table-mate was half way done with her meal; (she was hungry and I allowed her to start while it was still hot!). No offers to refill our beverages when her plate was cleared away. Once finished we sat for a few minutes waiting for our check, the busboy cleared our table and we still waited for our check. No one told us there would be no check and to pay at the register. Although the place looks nice inside and the employees are nice, I most likely won't return because of the prices. read more

I had the taquitos, which I do at any authentic Mexican spot to compare and they were spot on. We had a large group for friends birthday and the service was great.
