This was truly a surprise. While visiting the American Dream mall for my son's birthday arcade pit…read morestop, my daughter and I were waiting on the side while the row of wines caught my attention. We walked over and were delighted to see the enomatic wine dispensers, with lots of wine in them. We started doing our own little wine tasting and started to like the wines we were tasting. Given that this was my son's 21st birthday and now legal to drink, I called him up and told him to finish his arcade experience. Since he doesn't really like drinking (I've tried to educate him at home at times) the tasting would be a good entry into wine. We had him drink a sweet moscato which we all liked. This is now his favorite wine . Not bad for a first timer. Elvis, I think he was the owner, heard our celebration and offered a bottle of Prosecco for the group. We all enjoyed a good toast and continued to go down the rows of wines. I love tasting flights of food and drinks so this place really was heaven to me. If you're thinking of hanging out and not sure of what wine to drink, definitely check out this place. You won't be disappointed.

For some strange reason they didn't have food available when I went - I really wanted a charcuterie board. Hopefully next time I come back to American Dream I can get the full experience.

Review: Café Faubourg - Montclair…read more Café Faubourg is one of Montclair's true gems--an authentic French bistro that feels as if it were lifted straight from a quiet Parisian street and placed right in the heart of town. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance sets the tone: warm lighting, intimate tables, and that unmistakable bistro charm that makes every meal feel like a small escape. The food is consistently excellent, starting with their hummus, which is surprisingly standout for a French spot. Smooth, flavorful, and beautifully plated, it's the perfect way to begin the meal and pairs wonderfully with their fresh bread. The steak frites is a must-order and easily one of the best in the area. The steak is tender and cooked exactly to preference, richly seasoned without being heavy, and served alongside crisp, golden fries that are everything you want in a classic bistro dish. It's simple, authentic, and prepared with the kind of care that elevates a traditional favorite into something memorable. Service at Café Faubourg is warm and attentive without being intrusive, contributing to the relaxed elegance of the experience. Whether you're dropping in for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, the staff makes you feel welcome and unrushed. For anyone looking for an authentic French bistro experience in Montclair--excellent food, inviting ambiance, and truly charming service--Café Faubourg delivers every time.

I've reviewed Faubourg in the past and my experiences here have been exceptional. With the bar…read moreraised that high, I think it's good for the establishment to know about certain details that impact customer satisfaction. During this visit, the plating of some of the dishes was odd, as whomever did it felt the need to position the food right at the edge of the plates. That made it difficult to eat the dishes without some of the food spilling off the side. Had to push everything to center to avoid this. Again, this was very odd, as it happened on two entrees and one dessert dish and was the first time we've seen this at Faubourg. The lamb duo had a fantastic grilled flavor, but part of it (I believe it may have been shank meat) was loaded with so much salt that it overwhelmed the flavors and was a bit difficult to continue eating. The last comment is admittedly nitpicky, but worth mentioning, as they automatically added a 20% gratuity despite the menu stating that 20% is added for parties of 6 or more. We were a party of two and I was a bit annoyed that they did this. The check also had a place for "additional tip", which was a bit presumptuous after adding the 20%. Overall, the experience was positive with a few hiccups that prevent me from giving 5 stars. Still highly recommended.

I give the team a lot of credit for pivoting when it was clear The Hudson Rose wasn't going to take, but Nutley still exists a few steps below Montclair and Maplewood in this regard. A post-pandemic restaurant needs certainty and needs to minimize the weird lulls that now exist in the dining calendar. Bacarosa had the product and service, but there just weren't the logistics to drive this kind of scale. Nutley's always been kinder to the smaller places on Franklin Avenue, and I think that's still where it sits as a dining destination. That's no fault of the staff or product, but that makes it very difficult to manage overhead on this space, quality, and staffing. I don't look forward to this space inevitably taking a step back to its Gondola/Peter the Great banquet hall days of yesteryear, but The Franklin Steakhouse set a poor precedent by moving from its cozy spot just north of here to a space that could hold two of its former locations. I wish this team the best and hope we see them in this corner of the county again sometime. Thank you for giving the place the quality it deserved, even if the traffic just wasn't there.

We were seated and right the way a gentleman named Mathias came to serve us , what an amazing personality , friendly , knowledgeable of the menu , efficient.. I can just keep on going . We were also helped by a lady named Jenny whom I found out later is the manager of the place . She even got me a special hook/stand to hang my pocketbook instead of leaving on the floor . The food was ordered and served within 30 minutes , to cooked to perfection. We had the Chuleta / pina . Pork chops with pineapple and caramelized onions , pollo rumbero - chicken with prosciutto and cheese in a white sauce , and boiled yucca .
