It pains me to write this review. We have loved Tin Pan Galley for over 22 years. They catered our wedding on Wellesley Island 21 years ago for 250 people . We know there have been ownership changes over the years and have still had wonderful experiences. This past July, we made a reservation for a special family dinner. It was a beautiful night and we were seated in the garden. While dinner music is lovely in the background, having music so loud that our server had to show us the notepad with the specials is ridiculous. We could not hear her, much less talk to each other. The service was so spotty. We could see our drinks sitting at the bar after each round we ordered. Just getting water and then refills was exhausting. Not one empty glass was removed from our table. We even started stacking them. Our server had no clue about ingredients in the entrees. We had a family member that doesn't eat cheese or seafood. Every entree and special had cheese or seafood. Not a very good menu for a vegan, dairy free patron or a patron allergic to seafood. We should have looked beforehand but usually a restaurant menu encompasses all diners. That was our mistake. When we asked what the soup of the day was not the soups on the menu she told us it was a garlic soup with onions when it arrived it was the French onion soup without cheese and it was luke warm. The portobello tower needed more dressing, we asked more than once but it never came. We were missing silverware and while we said we were sharing appetizers no serving pieces or plates came with the appetizers. By the time the plates arrived the apps were no longer warm. The calamari was very fishy. And while we know calamari is frozen and not fresh, this calamari was just not good. Our server never even asked why we didn't eat it. The house made potato chips were fine. The artichoke dip was a bit bland. It was odd that out of 6 appetizers, 5 had cheese and the other was seafood. For entrees, we ordered Thai steak salad (good), Asian marinated sea bass (good), seared ahi tuna ordered (good), the filet mignon ordered rare ( arrived well done, sent back, after 20 minutes it came back bloody, sent it back after 25 minutes it came back medium to well, at this point the rest of us were done with dinner and had ordered dessert, so he just ate it) and the pasta special which might have been fresh and el dente four hours before our reservation was mushy and not good. We never saw a manager or chef. No one apologized for the steak. At this point, we have stacked the appetizer plates and dinner plates pushing them towards the center of the tables. We are watching the staff talking to each other, on their phones, and listening to the band. How any employee could walk past our table with all the dirty dishes and glasses or the ground that had two dirty paper napkins and not pick something up baffled us. My father announced before dessert it was the worst dining experience he had in his 77 years of life. When our German chocolate cake arrived, it didn't even surprise us that there was no caramel, coconut or nuts it was just a piece of chocolate cake. It was good but not what we thought we ordered. The whole experience was so frustrating, disappointing and loud we just wanted to leave. Getting to go boxes and the check also took effort. The lack of training and team work among the employees was mind boggling. Having worked in the industry and having owned a restaurant, one usually is more tolerant and forgiving but this experience was just a train wreck. Tin Pan is a destination dinner for us. We will not be returning unless something drastically changes and even then, we wouldn't go if they have live music. Sadly, our special family dinner was not enjoyable. I hope the owners/managers can figure it out because it is a beautiful outdoor dining spot in Sackets! read more
