We stood in for a taping of GMA back when Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson were the sole hosts, and from what I remember about the experience (I'm sure not much has changed), it was worth doing once but not again.
We obtained our tickets online and the process was fairly easy. On the morning of the taping, we had to be in line by 6 AM - luckily it was July and mild out at the time of day; I don't think I would have gotten up so early to stand in line if it was the middle of January. When we were finally let into the studio, you are basically standing in place (no place to sit) for the duration of the show, watching the broadcast on TV monitors until they tape one of the segments that takes place downstairs. Everyone was friendly, from the staff to people with us in the audience, which made it more bearable. They also passed around an ice cream snack, which was great (who would turn down ice cream for breakfast once in a while?!)
Blake Shelton performed a short concert in-studio that morning, which was cool too. At the end of the show, the anchors came downstairs and briefly met with the audience, so I had the chance to get a picture with Charlie Gibson and Blake Shelton.
Overall, would I do it again? Probably not. But I don't regret doing it once. read more
