I've been to lots of toystores in the city and burbs and this by far is the best one. It's thoughtfully organized into smaller sections by theme and age. I was shopping for a range of ages so their layout made it SO easy. They have a great selection of stuffed animals and games. It's so much more fun to shop in person than online for toys so I really appreciated being able to visit. I also felt things were reasonably priced. They do offer gift wrapping. I feel kinda indifferent about this store. It does have stuff for various ages, so I was able to find something for my four month old--though they don't have a lot for that age range. Happily, the item I did purchase for her has kept her occupied. They also have a small collection of books, as well as a small display of clothes. You'll find stuffed animas here too, and I almost bought one for my little one but figured I'd wait until she's a bit older and can play with it. One thing that was a little unfortunate is that it there's not a door-opening button to enter or exit. I can't be the only person with a child in a stroller who visits this store and can't teleport themselves inside... it was a bit of a struggle getting in and out of the store with a stroller. read more

Called for some "party puppies" aka awesome dogs in adorable interchangeable costumes. My wife already had like two dozen but couldn't find the unicorn ones and most places make you order random "dealers choice" selections. Stella stepped up and sent us not one but two different unicorn dogs plus a stellar collection of lion dogs and even a bee dog and some sort of met-dog and shipped them out all for a more than fair price. This is a great little store when you care enough to not go to Toys R Us. They have lots of straight up old fashioned toys, the kind that are made of wood and require imagination and interaction, not a laser light show to the tune of annoying beeps. The Goal: Buy a birthday present for a 1-year-old in 60 minutes or less. I was surprised by the size of Timeless. They have a good selection of toys although most seemed geared toward kids ages 3-5. They have learning toys, books, dolls, games, art project stuff, and costumes. My favorite was the display of puppets. Although we didn't buy anything here, I will keep it in mind for future gift excursions. Timeless definitely adds to the variety of Lincoln Square. I have been meaning to visit this toy store for quite some time. It completely saved me one fateful Tuesday. I had promised my son a visit to Quake and made the mistake of not checking their hours. Timeless Toys lifted his disappointment like the sun does after a heavy rain. Lots of great educational toys...toys that are nostalgic, toys for make believe, and toys that are actually fun and worth spending money on. My last visit to Timeless Toys made me sad. Because most of the children in my life have grown too old for this store. Though they've got a great selection, I'd say it's mostly for the under-12 set. Especially in our world today, where children grow up all too quickly. But this has been my go-to stop for Christmas and birthday shopping for years. Everything here is designed to engage a child's imagination. They have an amazing selection of puppets in a variety of styles. You're looking for a hedgehog hand puppet? This is the place. You won't be bombarded by all the crap you see on TV. Instead, you'll find true classics -- toys that won't be out of style next year, because they've never been "the latest thing." For older kids, they have craft and science sets, and they have books for all ages. Give yourself some time to browse around. The store is pretty well organized, but there are lots of shelves and alcoves, and you want to be sure you see everything! If you come on a weekend, expect it to be pretty packed, especially around Christmas. And be aware that you will be tripping over children. Whenever I want to get a gift for a kid, this is where I like to go. All of the toys here are interesting and well-made. There are no piece of crap plastic junk and the shelves are delightedly lacking in commercial- made-with-a-movie/tvshow-character-on-it-to-make-look-appealing junk. There are lesser known games here, beautiful coloring books, items for dress up drawers and great toys for learning and discovering the world. They also have kids and Brio train sets. Having shopped here in years past, I made the mistake of hitting Toys R Us at Christmas just to see the other side. Now I'm permanently screwed up with images of screaming bebes in nothing but diapers pulling "jr contractor" plastic sawzalls from shelves. Never again. This is the spot to go to when the kid wants something really special - and specialized. Not douchey specialized like 'ol FAO Schwartz -- you'll see what I mean. NYE was my godson's birthday, and it seems the kid is crazy for garbage trucks. Now dump trucks are easy to find, but garbage trucks are more complicated... But I knew that this was the place to come to because they carry obscure European import toy brands that specialize in realism and precision... et voila! We found two "refuse wagons" on the first try! Note: just cuz these toys were European high-quality imports does not mean they were expensive... and, as others have mentioned, the swift, pretty gift-wrapping is truly something to behold. read more

It's been seven years since my first visit to Timeless Toys. And amazingly, I've come back several times a year. I feel bad that I haven't updated my review. I'm not sure if Timeless Toys improved, or if I just developed a more realistic expectation of toy stores. Or both. But I *love* this store. Love it. It's the only place I buy toys - for my niece or nephew or anyone else. I've tried every other toy store in the city, both expensive and cheap. The baby I was originally buying toys for is now 7. She has a little brother, aged 4. And they have an apartment full of things from Timeless Toys. Her very favorite toy is a large Tyrannasaurus Rex from Timeless Toys that she's named "Rexie." It's indestructible. Her little brother threw it in a pond. We washed it in soap water and it was good as new. One day she was playing with Rexie while her mom had some M&Ms in a bowl. Her mother looked up, and wondered where they were. Turns out my niece was feeding them to Rexie. If you put food in Rexie's mouth and move her jaws, food actually goes down her throat . . . somewhere. Rexie ate a whole bowl. We still see no difference in the toy. It's still good as new. It's been two years since she ate the M&Ms. On another day, when she was 3 or 4, my niece threw her mother's new Iphone in the toilet and tried to flush. She said she did it because every time her mother got a call, it was from her boss, and it always meant her mother had to work instead of paying attention to her. She still got screamed at and sent to her room. When I went to comfort her, she told me she was mad at me, too, because I was silent when she was being yelled at. We sat in silence for a few minutes while I tried to think of a way to comfort her. Finally, I grabbed Rexie, and said "Why are you sad?" in my best dinosaur voice. And then she told Rexie why she was sad. And Rexie was able to comfort her. After that, she announced "Rexie, we're going to be friends forever." More recently, my nephew, a very quiet child, fell in love with playing "Hoot Owl Hoot," a game that was suggested to me by an employee at Timeless Toys. We had our most in depth conversation of our entire relationship while we played that game. For some reason, almost every single toy to which they've developed an emotional attachment has been from Timeless Toys. It's not just luck - the toys are high quality and long lasting, and are often extremely imaginative. And so, I've become extremely fond of this store, and really do consider it tightly connected to the childhoods of my niece and nephew. A few other things to note: 1. they have great turnover. Each time I go, I comb the store and buy the best of what I see, but when I come back a few months later, there's almost always lots of new stuff. 2. It's fast. Honestly, you can just run in there and spend five to ten minutes looking around and find the perfect gift. 3. Despite my first visit, when the service sucked, each visit after that has had stellar service. read more

It was so refreshing to see so many toys that are educational and encourage imagination. If you're like me and like to steer clear of the trendy toys and are looking for good quality, Timeless is definitely worth a visit. As mentioned by prior reviews, even though it's a smallish store, there is quite a big selection of toys and children's books. I really enjoyed shopping for my nephew birthday present (ended up getting some books and a gorgeous parrot puppet), but wonder if there are other adults like me that perhaps wanted some of those toys for themselves! A Pop-up Chronicles of Narnia book? I would have loved that Pop-Up book to look at when I was reading the series back in grade school and I might just get it now anyway. There was also a memory game where you learn about different artists and their paintings--for someone that has always wanted to learn a little more about art history, it would have been a fun way to learn! All I have to say for timeless toys is - I feel like I am a kid again !!! I grew up in Europe and the toys that this little shop carries reminds me of so many toys that I used to play with when I was a kid. The wooden blocks, rocking horses, puppets, stuffed animals and all that in between always bring me back to reminisce about my childhood. I was a nanny for five years in Lincoln Square, and timeless toys never disappointed when it came to birthday presents or Christmas presents. We have recently made an effort to support our local businesses and shop local. Yes, it's tempting to just run to Target or order something online from Amazon, and yes, you will end up paying more at your local stores, but shopping local businesses really does wonders for your community. We have purchased several toys here and have always found what we are looking for and they have always been a hit with the recipients. Great selection of toys and books for babies (crib mobiles), toddlers (dolls, puzzles, toys) all the way up to tweens (scooters, backyard toys, bracelet and beading kits, etc.). I love how unique the toys are - they are not your usual Barbies or GI Joes. They have a great selection of great toys - interesting and healthy (i.e. my over-protective sister can't complain about my selections). Oh, and the staff is great and very helpful! I love the fact that this store is independently-owned. Stepping in, it makes you turn into a kid yourself - I even converted my cousin who really isn't all that into toy stores to begin with, and she had a blast! The store itself is a little cramped, but in each aisle and shelf, you will find something ridiculous, funny, or just plain cute. The employees let you freely roam around, readily available to help those customers in need, and really let you play with anything that you see. Their selection is pretty extensive for such a small store, and I'm guaranteed you'll find something to purchase. They also do free gift-wrapping, and I love how they do it - none of that fancy schmancy, neat and prim, fold the corners exactly with the right measurements - they wrap it to cover the toy and put a cute ribbon around it. This store makes one believe in Santa and his elves, because where else does one get such thoughtful and engaging toys that seem to have been made for your child. Rows and rows of toys and those close equivalents, educational kits and model animals. Something for anyone- really, they carry Archie Mcphee novelty items! We left with a Jane Goodall build-your-own bracelet - by purchasing we donated 10% of price to Goodall's monkeys. Yeah, my daughter has to save everything from rain forests to manatees. I wish I were a kid. If I were a kid, I would wish I had cool parents. I would also wish my cool parents had money, or were overcompensating for a divorce or busy careers, because the stuff in here is kind of expensive, and I want all of it. This store is completely awesome in every way. The toys are great--there's a huge variety, and almost all of the ones I saw were educational, creative, and cool (there may have been Barbie doll or two but I really didn't look). I bought way too much for my friend's daughter, and I get the feeling that until I have kids of my own to waste money on, my friends' kids are going to get a bunch of presents from their Auntie who is re-living her childhood through this store. read more

They really are timeless toys, too. I adore this kind of toy store - the type that isn't just filled to the brim with branded plastic crap that doesn't allow one to have a creative playtime and goes out of style in two months. Its inventory focuses on classic (wooden trains, puzzles...), educational (science kits, geodes...) and imaginative toys (costumes, puppets...). They also have a nice bookshelf full of worthwhile children's books for babies up through pre-teens (everything from Pat the Bunny to Curious George to Jack Prelutsky's poems...). Of course there are cheap little fun things, such as wind-up toys, for kids at heart to have on their desks at work. I wanted to visit to get my nieces' birthday presents, but since the store was about to close, I called ahead to make sure they had what I was looking for. The employees were helpful on the phone and in the store. They even wrapped up the gifts at no charge. Saved me an extra trip to get paper and bows!
