My grandmother used to live in an apartment above this store. I spent a lot of time in here when I was little, absolutely entranced by all of the superheroes and cool drawings. Little me was always going straight for the Star Wars comic books though. I recently went back for the first time in years, having become a semi-avid comic collector, and was blown away. Not only was it as welcoming and amazing as I remembered, but the selection was incredible. Of all the comic stores I've been to, this has got to be the best one, hands down. read more

Super neat shop around the UIC campus. Had a lot of different comics as well as some figures and memorabilia. I was able to swipe up an old magazine for the heck of it but also found a good chunk of CYBER FORCE comics to add to the collection for only 50 cents each! They were in great condition despite being in the bargain section. I would recommend this spot for anybody looking for comics or even just to browse. The nostalgia is real! read more

Having worked in a retail collectible shop, I know that there is such a thing as a stupid question. Sadly I had a few I needed to ask about some Magic The Gathering Cards. The person at the counter, presumably the manager was patient, understanding and quite helpful. I would completely understand if he had brushed me off but he did not. Unfortunately I don't dabble in the comic/CCG world anymore otherwise I would certainly go back. Hats off to these guys. read more

I first started going to First Aid Little Italy to play Friday Night Magic. They have alternating Standard and Drafts on Friday nights, and EDH on Sundays. The people who play at this shop are friendly, helpful, and really fun to play with. This is not a very competitive location: That is to say, if you want to hang out with some chill people, play some Magic, and just kill time on a Friday night, then this is the place to be. They charge retail pricing for boxes and fat packs (which makes them more expensive than buying online), but it's nice to support a local business rather than a big online retailer. On the comics side, they have a nice selection and are always happy to order whatever you're looking for if they don't have it. The store owner, Tom, gives great recommendations. He's very honest about what he thinks are good (or bad) comics and won't just try to give you the hard sell to make you buy things. There's also a nice selection of children's items, and I see a lot of kids come by the store. Also available are various figurines, board/card games, and knick knacks (buttons, magnets, shirts, etc.) which makes this a nice place to go if you need a gift for someone who is into comics or games. read more

Comic book stores usually look the same. You got your endless racks of comics, a few expensive figurines, some fictional novels, and maybe a board game section. Though I'm sure keeping comic book stores orderly and clean is hard work, it doesn't change the fact that most comic stores look the same, give or take bigger or smaller spaces. With this in mind, what can make a comic store stand out are the people working in said comic store. A friendly face and great customer service can go a long way in making a specific comic store your go to place to get your comic book fix. This is where First Aid Comics stands out above the rest. The owner of this place is probably one of the friendliest people I know and the rest of his staff aren't far behind. Their customer service is fantastic and you can tell the staff are knowledgeable about at least the basics of any series you can ask them about. I've called them up a few times and they are just as friendly on the phone as they are in person. This is a great place to give your comic book business to due to the friendly atmosphere, especially if you're like me and only by comics once a month. read more

The sweetest employees, wonderful manager, friendly and welcoming evironment. I knew right away I wanted to start a pull list at First Aid. They keep track of the comics you order, not forgetting you when they come in even over a month later. They even have D&D campaigns going every Saturday! Love them, they deserve the best. read more

Been here just once, but once was all I needed to realize this place is great. I came to pick up a menton 3 variant cover of an x-files book for my girlfriend, and wound up shooting the breeze with the owner about David Mack. I wound up picking up a few kabuki tpbs I didn't already have on dude's recommendation. Great shop with impeccable taste! read more

We were walking on Taylor one day after we moved in nearby. Walked into first aid comics and were greeted with open arms!!! Never would i thought I would find a Spanish comic book. An amazingly friendly comic book shop! Me and my girlfriend first visited this place on a summer afternoon after we shared some lemon Italian ice from Mario's down the street. The owner of the store greeted us with a smile and was very friendly. Being a 25 year old that likes Archie comics and Peanuts, the owner helped me out and showed me the little kids section as we talked about how great Charlie Brown is. A great shop that is well organized, has great variety, and an amazing helpful staff. My son has had a bad year at school with a teacher who completely turned him off reading. I took him to First Aid Comics on Saturday to try and get him to read something just for fun. He read some comics back to back, but when I asked to buy him some more he got angry and said, "No!" The man running the shop saw it all and asked me very quietly if he could slip a free Star Wars teaser comic into my purchase of Pez. I said, yes, he did and my son read the "teasers" that night. I was so happy to see him reading again. Definitely going back. read more

My first comic book store and I cannot get enough of this place. Tom is very helpful and patient with the newcomers to the comic book world. I love how you can send him an email and he'll respond quickly to any concern you might have. You feel welcome when you stepped into the shop. The layout of the shop is very organized. You can find anything on the shelves. There's a comic book for anyone too. You have the luxury to subscribe to your favorite comic books and Tom will hold them aside for you. Quick and easy system for those monthly releases. You cannot beat the service being provided here. I've been to almost every comic store in the city and this is hands down the friendliest place you'll walk into. Any request they will accommodate and this is truly a business that appreciates repeat customers. I only wish that their vintage selection was a bit bigger at this location, but that's only because as a collector I'd prefer to give them my business rather than Chicago Comics or Graham Crackers. This is definitely a store for the true comic lover that likes their weekly routines and BS'ing with the employees about the running stories. Just a great store all around. read more

First Aid is a perfect example of how comic book shops should be. The head honcho Tom is a super nice guy that takes the time to know his customers.
