I came here to get a Valentine's Day card and that's exactly what I found, quickly and easily. There was a woman who greeted me just as I entered and offered assistance if I needed it, but left me alone to browse. They have the obvious cards, gift wrap, tissue paper, and that sort of thing. But they also have office gear (organizers, pens, notepads, etc.), toys and knick knacks, even some board games--I saw Steam Up, a fairly niche game that I know of because I Kickstarted it to get it published, was for sale here. They have a lot more than I expected. I left with only my card but there were several things that caught my eye. Service was quick and efficient. Location is convenient for my work, and I appreciate having a place to buy cards and whatnot besides the Barnes & Noble in the Loop. I hate that the Loop has become so quiet. Although this is true, Paper Source was bustling on this cold and rainy afternoon. I walked in from a dreary day into a bright and exciting store. There were colorful collections everywhere. Valentine's Day was in full force. Everything was displayed attractively that made it so easy to browse. I stopped in for specific items I saw online and needed to pick up several birthday cards. They have the best greeting card selection in town! I was warmly welcomed by a nice lady who remained helpful during my entire visit. Since I was looking for certain things, she easily found them for me. Customer service was spot on. It was a rainy day, I entered the beautiful shop of gold laced origami and papered trees of several hues of lilies, rainbows and pleasure purchases of guilt free stationary meant to capture meaningful thoughts and intention of celebration and sympathies. My love language is handwritten letters of kisses and hugs and this whimsical store caught my eye as I trekked across the loop in search of the red line to get to my favorite gym. I hoped to find a piece of candy but instead I thought to splurge a little for a holiday near and dear to my heart. I believe this is the location formerly known as papyrus...I got a beautiful card from a friend from this brand and was instantly filled with warm memories. The staff was engaging as Gillian offered to show me how to make an origami crane bookmark...I thought it was oh so cute. I would say that the store deserves more space for patrons to write and use time to read and peruse the many items on display. I am quite intrigued by the variety of offerings that would complement any holiday, anniversary, announcement and birthday. I am definitely a snob...the brand "hallmark" marked class in signature and the paper source is quite the reminder and experience. I knew it was real and authentic whenever I would receive a card in the mail with lightly weighted card stock and decorative scribe. The Sally Frank fan in me was purely overjoyed by the design of the butterfly shaped cards that could be used as a Pinterest-tastic DIY idea. So made the purchase after being offered a discount cuz I look for any opportunity to save my coins. The store is near the financial district of Chicago and is properly placed to be a sweet break from the monotony. I visited this store a few weeks back and let me tell you it was the best experience! From the start I was greeted and welcomed into the store, let me tell you not many places greet customers when they come in, but this store did and it made me feel welcomed. The store was so colorful and I could tell that each table was unique. I loved all the Jelly cats and nicknacks throughout. I didn't come in looking for anything specific but I was asked multiple times if I needed help with anything while I was walking around. Gillian one of the store employees was SUPER friendly and helpful and very attentive, Thank you Gillian for being so kind and for helping me! My favorite part of the store was ALL THE PENS specifically the dog pens! I have bought these pens before from the Oakbrook store that sadly closed so being able to get new pens at this store made my entire day! I asked Gillian who the store manager was and she directed me to Emma. Emma was kind and she loved all the pens I was purchasing and she even sold me on a few more dog pens because of course I need backups in case I run out. Great job with your team Emma! Overall this store was a great experience, all the staff were very friendly and I truly enjoyed my visit. I will definitely be making a trip to this store again in the future ! read more

So happy that Paper Source is now in the Loop! This location is actually a "lab store," which means that in addition to being a retail location, this is where employees test products and updates to stores. I LOVE cards. I love receiving them, but even more, I love giving them. If I had my druthers, I'd probably give my husband a card everyday. But since that's kind of overkill, I save them for special occasions like our wedding anniversary, first-date anniversary, and engagement anniversary, or birthdays and holidays. And sometimes I'll just slip a "just-because" one in his briefcase or suitcase so he can find it later. Because I'm sweet like that. The cards I choose run the gamut from romantic, to sweet, to humorous, or sometimes even sarcastic. It just depends on my mood. He has amassed quite a collection over the years. Paper Source has great cards, and it's a fun place to shop for cards to give to people I care about. I always want the cards I give to convey what I would say if I were a better writer. I could spend hours in here reading and buying cards. Beyond all the wonderful greeting cards, PS has tchotchkes, doodads, and other assorted trifles like calendars, stationery, custom stamps, invitations, gift wrap, seasonal items, and crafts. I really like Paper Source for greeting cards. I can easily spend $100 buying pretty, funny and quirky birthday, wedding and anniversary cards. There are some left-leaning political cards and LGBT friendly cards. I also love that they're a Chicago company and their headquarters is right upstairs from this particular store. Paper Source also has a host of small gift items. Some of them are nice and thoughtful and some are gag gifts. They're items that you would never, ever think of ahead of time but then you see them and immediately think of people who would like them. I think that the meat and potatoes of Paper Source is their paper, rubber stamps and items for making your own paper creations: invitations, scrap books, and whatever else is made with paper. They have crafty employees to help guide you through their selection of items. I'm pretty sure they have events and classes too although I've never participated in any of that. I once bought all of these things to make a card for a special someone and was flabbergasted that it cost so much. The store is super cute, and they have all sorts of stationary and small gifts. I came in looking for a specific greeting card that I had seen on their website, but they didn't have it. I ended up going with one that had a similar sentiment, but I left disappointed. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed with the eight-ish customers in the store, and there was some confusion at the cash register. I don't know that I'd go here again over competitor Papyrus, and definitely not over a couple of local family-owned shops that sell greeting cards. read more

I am all about Paper Source. Their perfect mix of cards, mugs, gifts, and crafts makes it the type of place where I end up finding $50 worth of stuff my need to declutter ass doesn't need, but buys anyway. So why one star? When planning my quickie wedding I happened to find some cute paper flowers they no longer had in stock. Like, on Thursday and I was getting married on Saturday. They said they could hold them for me that night at either the Evanston or Oak Park store as long as I prepaid, so I did and chose Evanston. Unfortunately, when my fiancé went to pick them up, they weren't there. I called the store and spoke to the manager first thing Friday morning, and just my luck, my flowers were at the River North store. I explained that I live in Edison Park and that without last night to work on the flowers and the hour and a half it'd take me to drive back and forth from River North to pick them up, there was no way for me to get them done in time for the wedding. She never offered to try to find them at a store closer to me, and said I had to wait for the River North store to open to give them my cc info and get a refund. No. I explained that after spending almost $100 I was now left without table decorations for my wedding, and that I didn't have time to chase down my refund. Luckily, she was able to figure out a way to credit me over the phone from her store, and told me to have a great weekend. Nice. It was made even worse when I went into the store to return all the glue and everything I bought to go with the flowers and bumped into the original girl who helped me. I told her what happened, and since she didn't want to deal w/ me, she pawned off my return on another employee. Way to be an adult and acknowledge your fuck up. The only bright spots were the Evanston Store and the girl who helped me when I called their national line. Only because of them will I continue shopping at any Paper Source but this one. read more

Great product. Cute items. The staff at this location is horrible. They did not recognize me until I told them they needed to ring me up. I asked if they could let me throw away a coffee cup, and with attitude she asked me if it was empty. Yes ma'am, it is, that is why I asked if I could throw away my empty cup. She then pointed me to a trash can to throw it away myself. Nice store, lose the workers with the 'tude. read more

Paper Source keeps a database of all customers and and their purchases, and if you decline to participate, no matter how politely, the staff immediately become extremely hostile. The clerk basically threw the receipt at me, didn't say thank you, or make eye contact until I left the store. If you need a card, just get one from Walgreens for half the price. read more

I just got done shopping here and noticed staff was very talkative to each other. Not very friendly and were just kind of watching me. Weird. You know, genuinely being nice could go a long way. People like me would spend A LOT of money. I find that very unfortunate because they have very nice merchandise. I think next time I would rather spend my money elsewhere. read more
