The owner and others want to overcharge for items instead of properly ringing up the price listed if there is even a price listed, depending on their mood is how much you'll pay and they do play favorites with customers one day you'll pay the assumed price of 5.60 for something that's priced at 2 for $5 including sales tax, the next week $7.00 - I have endured this outrageously vapid behavior from this company for right at five years. Not only that, they'll waste your time while you wait in line for them to finish conversations with their friends and family , you could have called each other instead of having people who don't have time to listen to your latest gossip. While at the same time don't have time to allow someone to put down their items on the counter before they're eager to ring your products up with the kind.of attitude that ensures that you would never want to come back. How rude, the audacity of the mother daughter team is beyond believable.

My girlfriend and I came from out of town for the weekend and on our last day we stopped by this market to get some snacks and chapstick for the road. My girlfriend initially grabbed a candy bar but changed her mind and put it back and we continued to browse the store. In the back we noticed there was a section of iced beverages and took a quick look before heading to the register. We didn't initially notice the sign that said "no merchandise unless put in a basket" and was later pointed out to us by a woman working there. Then all of a sudden the man working at the counter raised his voice and confronted my girlfriend about the candy bar. We explained that we put it back but he got defensive and accusingly said "Show me". Even after showing him, he denied believing us. Then he claimed we were taking medicine in the back which was false because it was only chapstick that we were willing to buy. Then the woman chimed in and continued fabricating that we "took a long time" in the store the previous night, even though all we did was we went to browse and get some late night snacks. This is was the most utterly disrespectful and unprofessional behavior we have witnessed from any business and left a bad taste for our first visit to Clearlake. Note to Owners; Maybe CHECK your cameras before you start harassing and accusing your costumers of shoplifting. We will not be returning.

Today, for the first time ever, the owner told me I have to use a tap card to pay, instead of the ordinary insert/swipe card I've been using for years. My bank (a large regional bank) does not issue tap cards yet. So I had to put the bottles back on the shelf and drive across the street to Big John's. I know tap cards are trending but have never encountered a store that forced their customers to use them. Seems like Tip Top has hit rock bottom ... and just lost a loyal, long-time customer along the way.

Another update on bad business practices, i've been going every week here for produce, they had a…read moresale on red leaf lettuce $.99 each, normally it's 1.99 I got two bunches, when I got home and looked at the receipt, she charged me for Romain lettuce $1.99 each. Not a big deal. I just brought my receipt in the next week when I went in for lettuce, to the same clerk. She said it's been too long and unless I return it they can't do anything, I mean it's only two dollars it's not a big deal, to me. So my observation of this store is they just think everybody's out to steal from them. I normally only buy lettuce and tomatoes at this store, so if Safeway has the same price for the lettuce, I will buy it there from now on.
