This was exactly what I was looking for the other night. Cool space, dim, romantic, good beer list and absinthe. The table was not too large nor the volume of the music too loud so I did not have to shout or say what? a hundred times to my date. Music was cool and live jazz trio was choice. Food was decent, server was good, knowledgeable and efficient. Absinthe for dessert is always interesting. I will definitely be back. read more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner and it was hands down the best date. Our server Mike was friendly, funny, knowledgeable and very attentive. The band that played was phenomenal and the food and drinks were perfect. Definitely will be back soon! Oh, and the bread is to die for! read more

Great music. Always a good crowd. Prices are a bit high, but you are paying for the great tunes. There is a second room for the other type of bar music you would expect to hear at a bar, and younger crowd. But why listen to that when you got live tunes right? read more

this review is an ode to old Philadelphia and a spit in the face to the yuppie/hipster town that the city is trying to become.... although I fully appreciate a whiskey bar with real whiskey prices, I kind of miss the affordable diveness that was the pinnacle of gayborhood establishments... the food (please white people consult a person of color before you offer fried chicken tot he masses) was average at best. the wings were tender large and in charge but the mussels lacked flavor of any kind. the burger was basic at best and the fried chicken dinner entrée was depressing. please is cutely perfect for that awkward first date and serves as a great watering hole to wash tears of ended relationships down but otherwise it is just another ode to the changing landscape of Philadelphia.... read more

The place was a bit pricey, but what can you expect from a wine bar/restaurant, whiskey bar, and absinthe lounge. I'm not a big whiskey drinker, so my draw was the absinthe. The Absinthe lounge upstairs is only open on weekends + thurs night. We were there on a Tuesday (after the Elite party at Mexican Post), so we sat at the whiskey bar. It was a simple and dark atmosphere, with clean lines and somewhat empty walls. This in totally stark contrast to the wild plant life I remember at the old Ludwigs establishment. If you haven't had the absinthe, I recommend that you try it at least once. No one in our group really cared for it, but I'll probably try to make my way back to at least check out the upstairs. read more

Walking up to this place, I figured it would be your run of the mill, average pub. Imagine my surprise when I found an upscale restaurant, a whiskey bar and a pub all wrapped up into one! We went for dinner, but since the restaurant section was pretty quiet, we decided to sit in the pub section. The atmosphere was clean and classy, kind of upscale pub-y. They had a long beer list up on the chalkboard with beers from around the world and also a nice selection of micros, but I was in the mood for a cocktail. I was so excited when I turned to the last page of the drink menu and hit the jackpot. Whiskey drinks galore! Oh yeah! I love a good classic cocktail, and manhattans are my favorite. There were so many to choose from, though, so I asked our server/bartender for his recommendation. He told me that he makes a killer manhattan that's not on the menu. Bullet rye, orange bitters, real cherries (not maraschino, hooray!)...yum. It was awesome. I wanted to switch to beer after the first one, but they didn't have any dark beers in stock (darn summer) so I had a second, even though I knew it would likely land me on the floor. Oh well, at least I had fun getting there right? I perused the food menu and was a little disappointed when I didn't see foie gras. Apparently the online menu is a little outdated. Since our server didn't steer me wrong with the drinks, I decided to follow his recommendation for the salmon with bananas and leek sauce. It sounded a little crazy, but I love weird stuff so I went for it. I'm not a huge salmon fan, but that salmon was delicious. Who knew bananas and leeks went together? Good stuff. My friend went with the beef tenderloin. It was also very good, but that salmon was the winner for sure. We were having so much fun and the Cubs/Cards game was on the flatscreen so we decided to stick around for another drink. This time I really did have to switch to beer. Our server found me a nice stout in a can (I know, but it was good). I wish I could remember the name, but the manhattan haze pretty much erased all that. All I remember was that (pretty funny at the time) dancing cow on the front. Night one was such a success. Great service and very knowledgeable bartenders/servers lured us back for round two a few nights later. Our original server wasn't there that night (too bad, I really wanted to try his sazerac!), but our new bartender managed to mix up a great old fashioned and a Presbyterian. Wow, that Presbyterian was delicious. Rye, bitters, ginger beer. Spicy deliciousness. I love this place. I really wish it was closer to home, but at least I have something to look forward to whenever I'm in Philly. read more

Time is always a solid choice for a night out. The food is great for bar food (amazing fries) and they have a really wide selection of well priced beers. Coming from Boston myself, this is something I have missed and was happy to find their array of ales and drafts. On the weekends, things get fairly crazy so if you have friends in town and are looking for a good time in a bar/dance scene casual crowd, this place is a great recommendation. Lots of young people and good music. read more

Stopped in during a bar crawl Saturday night and was really impressed. I still consider it brown liquor season so was very excited to enter the bars right side where whiskey of all types could be found in abundance. Bartender made us some spectacular drinks and we had another round of straight whiskey from a huge list of options. Didn't visit other side but it looked cool as well. Will definitely stop by again. read more

Came by after the hotel concierge gave it as a recommendation for Restaurant Week. Was an amazing spot with good service, inventive food but only gets 4 stars because of some of the crowd was way too drunk and kept standing over and bumping into our dinner table. Bad seating choice and logistics because it was really annoying. read more

I've been a longtime fan of Time for their live jazz bar, chill whiskey bar, and vibrant upstairs dance floor. Unfortunately, I can't say I'll every bring my friends back after my experience tonight. As someone who has remained sober my whole life, I was baffled as to why the bouncer tonight, who wasn't the one who I usually see working the door, refused me entry because I was "too drunk" or "on something." I can easily forgive him for this inaccurate assessment; I had jogged up the ramp to the door and showed him my ID with a big old smile on my face for no reason other than I was in a great mood. However, what shocked me was that he refused to let me in after subsequent conversations in which he clearly could have deduced that, contrary to his initial assessment, I was sober, level-headed, polite, respectful, and did not raise my voice, get physical or act threatening. I explained that I was the Designated Driver for a large group of friends who were out celebrating a birthday, and was trying to regroup with them in Time. I'm not calling for this possibly new bouncer to be fired. I'm merely pointing out that if I'm the owner/manager of a popular nighttime bar, it would be in my best interest to hire a more reasonable and competent staff with an emphasis on intellect and common sense. read more

Soon as this place opened I think i was here at least once a week. Good selection for drinks and every person, even with different tastes, has a good time there. I celebrated my birthday upstairs and the DJ was aweeesome. Every time, the party is crazy upstairs on a weekend. lovelovelove it. read more

Loved the jazz club last Friday night with an ad hoc assembly of local players we nicknamed 'Some Dudes Playing.' With the help of some delicious Belgian beers and good vibes around the crowd, this place grooved until last call. We sung upstairs for a quick tour of the hiphop lounge, but definitely the main event was the downstairs Jazz/Absinthe scene. read more

Our friend and guide to Philly for the day took what we were looking for (decent prices and good beer) into consideration before deciding that she'd take us to one of her favorite happy hour hangouts for dinner. It turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. I was hoping to find a local brew that I couldn't get back in New England and they did have an offering from Yards which I had never heard of before. They also had several beers I could find back home, but a good beer is a good beer no matter where you have it. Our friend had the Presbytarian, one of her favorite cocktails that she goes back to on a regular basis. A few drinks in the darkish bar area with some funky Red Hot Chili Peppers playing in the background made for a good setting. Enough about the drinks, how was the food? This is no ordinary beer bar. Their apps include options like grilled marinated quails or risotto balls. Their short list of entrees aren't as adventurous, but they all sounded pretty tasty. We split the mac and cheese appetizer and it was one of the better mac and cheeses that we've tried. The bit of pulled pork in the middle added some great flavor and we loved the mix of cheeses. When it came time to pick my entree I went with the most ordinary thing on the menu, but I certainly didn't regret it. They don't have a list of a dozen different burgers that you can pick from. They have only one and they call it "The Burger". As I dug in to The Burger I was asked if it really was The One. It might've been. It certainly was close. The caramelized onions and homemade bacon were absolutely fantastic. From what I heard from the others the quail and the duck were also pretty fantastic. Time was part of a really good time we had in Philly. If we're back in the city some time we'd absolutely make a point to head there again. read more

Went last night and had a great time. The atmosphere was very laid back and the live music was no joke. Ordered the 7-course Chefs sampler and it was very good. Loved the oyster soup, foie gras, and sardines. Around midnight the crowd totally changed almost like the 3pm bell rang and school let out. Bonus: Cupcake truck was outside when we left, slamming chocolate and peanut butter cupcake. read more

I used to go here all the time when it was ludwig's. It is def a little off the path. We ended up going with a group of about 20 people from work - we had no problem finding an area for all of us to take over. The beer list was good and their fries were thick cut and amazing. There was some good live jazz as well. all in all a nice chill spot for after work. read more

Wow! Went late on a Monday night last November and this place was amazing. The chef put together a fabulous 7 course tasting menu while the bar staff paired it with wine beer and scotch. The food was fabulous the service was great. Thank you for the memorable dining experience! See you next time in back in Philly. read more

Live jazz and great whiskey drinks....cant really beat it. It was hard not to have fun here. My friends and I were lucky enough to get a table, the service was great and the atmosphere was better. We sat there talking all night, listening to great music, and surrounded by great people. I cant wait to go back. I hear there are different sections in time, and different bars all with different vibes. I am stoked to check all the sections out. Keep the whiskey coming! read more

Had a wonderful experience! The live music was great, our server was amazing and made great recommendations. They made me French 75's all night long and they were perfect! We would definitely go back :) read more

I love this place so, so much. Having been here several times before to dance (drunk) upstairs, I decided it was finally time to check out the menu during non-drunken hours. Let me tell you, I am impressed. For an appetizer, we ordered the mac & cheese which came with a not-so-heaping scoop of pulled pork. The mac & cheese was delicious and creamy, but the pasta was a little awkward (it was like long, thick ziti) to maneuver - don't worry, I somehow found the strength and courage to get it in my mouth. I didn't care much for the pulled pork and thought it a tad on the sweet side, but my friend thought it was delicious. For entrees, I got the mussels and he got the burger. The mussels were absolutely fantastic and came in a delicious safflower broth (I have no idea what safflower is, but I liked it). My dish also came with a large helping of fries, but I was so full from the mussels and appetizer, I didn't really eat any of them. My friend thought the burger was pretty good, moist, and tasty. I have no other comments on that, unfortunately, because he devoured it before I got a chance to check it out. A comment on the drinks: I read some comments on the dark and stormy and to avoid it - DON'T LISTEN TO THEM. They are really good and priced at $5 for happy hour. What more could a girl need? If you haven't been to Time for dinner before, then I highly suggest it. Food and drinks are awesome, wait staff is friendly and quick, and the happy hour jazz is soothing. read more

Well, i did not eat here, but hey, went there for drinks and music after my birthday dinner at Buddakan! We were lucky enough to get in easily while there was a line out the door, and grab a table while the place was packed. It was my first time here, and so glad I had an amazing time. The live music, decent people and the fact that they are super generous with their shots of Jack, are a win-win in my book! Definitely a refreshing change from the other places I have been to. Must-go. Liked the warm and cozy feeling it gave me, I can see myself going there a lot during the winter time. read more

The bouncer was extremely rude and inconsiderate. He also disrespected my heritage. I'd give 0 stars if the was an option.

Welcome to the Jazz Dungeon. "Yazz hands" with a Yazz plan. This low lit, yazzy gem is erupting with style and class. They serve a special drink called "the 72", which is made up of 72 year old whiskey and leprechaun tears. You'll be pissin nothing but luck after having one. Overall best time I've had since jazzercize. read more

Walked in to a crowded dark bar on a Friday night (the room on the right), the bartender flew over to us reached over the people at the bar to hand us a menu, I don't even know how he saw us, but he made us feel welcome instantly. We shouted two beers from the pretty impressive draught list (20 taps!) I have no clue how he even heard us. We went to try and find a seat and by the time we made our round a seat had opened up at the bar. I put my half drank beer on the bar and while I was taking my coat off the bartender swooped in and dumped my beer (he was too efficient for his own good!) he immediately realized what he had done and poured me a new full beer on the house, he even remembered what I was drinking. We asked a few questions about some other beers and he let us sample his recommendations and my boyfriend found a new favorite beer (and bartender man crush). We settled our tab and it appeared the beers were around $5/6 each which is pretty good for center city. As we were leaving I realized I had forgotten my scarf and ran back to the stools, again over comes super bartender with his LED flashlight to light up the area so I could find it! Now you may think that this is normal bartender behavior, but after a pretty bad experience of being ignored all night at sampan, I'll praise it! read more

Overpriced. Hostess very rude. Music ok. Only had a desert there. It was a tablespoon worth of oversugary goo they called a lemon bar. Couldn't even taste the lemon - that's how sugary it was. $12 for a tablespoon of sugar. Not worth it and nothing special. read more

The live music is the best part of this place. The bar is also very nice. I have mostly tried food from the bar menu, and all of it is good. They also have a good grilled octopus dish. read more

Whiskey! Yes! Time is more of a whiskey bar. My waiter Tim was amazing. I just moved to Philadelphia from NY, read the reviews on yelp and decided to check it out. Not too many drafts to choose from, a few bottles, but their whiskey menu is excellent; about 75 great selections. Food until 1am. Good atmosphere (for a Sunday). Overall, I think ill keep this as my go-to late-night bar. For now. read more

We wanted to hear some jazz and we were looking for a place that had jazz early in the evening. Time met our criteria. Our waiter was excellent and so was the music (a 3 piece jazz group). Also excellent was the $5 champagne cocktail. There were an amazing array of whiskeys on the menu but my spouse chose a good beer instead, from an excellent recommendation from our waiter. The meal was blah, unfortunately. My spouse had the fried chicken. Being a southern boy, he knows his fried chicken and he would give this fried chicken a 1-2 star review. I had the duck breast and it was ok (3 rating category). So, we would come here again, but not to order dinner. We would sit at the bar and listen to music and I would have happy hour champagne cocktails and my spouse would try some of the tremendous selection of whiskeys. Unfortunately, my rating of 3 for our meal experience. read more

Good place to sit back, relax and enjoy a nice beer in the city! They offer local beers as well as a nice long selection of whiskeys. You can easily find a seat and drink at the bar or the restaurant before 10pm. After 10pm they blast music and it turns into more of a "party scene". It is usally crowded on the weekends. read more

HUGE space. There are three rooms that belong to time - two downstairs, and one upstairs. Downstairs is a huge bar and a jazz band on Saturdays. Upstairs is a dj playing some good hip hop and dance music. The other downstairs room is a smaller bar. It's a fun place to be drunk, dancing around, and acting like a fool. The jazz band was pretty cool. I think I'd go here if I was in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't necessarily trek to midtown to go here. While the music is good for dancing, the crowd it attracts can be a crapshoot. I would go to the Walnut room over Time for dancing. Overall fun, but not rockstar times. read more

My rating for Time is for food, service and atmosphere on a Wednesday evening. One of the characteristics of Time in the summertime is live music pouring out of the open windows, which is so cool, if you like live music. It's loud, though! When you walk in, there are three separate sections: 1) to the left is a small space with a bar and seating area. This is the area with the live music. Crowd: Mellow 2) to the right is a door that says "Whiskey Bar." It reminded me of a sports bar. Crowd: Active; milling around, loud talking. No live music from what I could see when I peeked into the window 3) stairs to the second level. I didn't go up there, but between live band sets in my area, I could hear hip-hop music coming from that space. THE FOOD We spent our time in space #1 and ate at the bar. I favor sweeter drinks and ended up ordering a cocktail called "The Regrettable Text." It was tasty. It had a very sweet and lemony flavor. It was $10. My companion and I ordered the shrimp and grits. It's an appetizer-sized bowl of creamy grits served with six, medium-sized shrimp. I was so thrilled that the chef removed the tails from the shrimp. NO OTHER RESTAURANT DOES THIS! I appreciated this because I don't like digging my fingers into my food to remove shrimp tails. Anywho, the dish is finished off with a spicy sauce. Now I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food. But I was able to handle it. The dish is very flavorful. I recommend ordering it. THE SERVICE We ate at the bar, so we got bar-type service. Nonetheless, the bartender checked on us to see if our meals were satisfactory, to see if we needed a refill on our beverages and to keep our water glasses filled. He was pleasant and easy-going. THE ATMOSPHERE We sat at the corner of the bar, closest to the band. While the band was good, the music was loud. However, the sets were short. So, it was a relief when we didn't have to scream over the music. But then I felt bad for talking while the band was playing. It was a nice-sized crowd for a Wednesday night. The bar area was full and the seating area was about 70% full. (The Whiskey Bar area, however, was jumpin'!) The bill came to about $57 for two appetizers, two glasses of white wine, and a cocktail. If you like live music and good food, and don't mind limiting the meaningful parts of your conversations to between sets, you should go. read more

We kind of ran across this place we were actually waiting to be seated across the street at Elvez lol, however what I ordered was really good which was a Kale salad. They had a very good IPA beer on tap. The music was great. The staff was super efficient and cool We had a nice time there. Looking forward to going back and sample the menu some more read more

Very surprised with how big the place is. There are two bars, essentially. One is classy and has live jazz often, the other has TVs and several beers on tap. I was there for SIPS on a Wednesday and got some tasty whiskey drinks for like three bucks. It got busy with a young crowd by the end of the happy hour. The apps we tried (chicken skewers and friend rice ball thingys) were tasty and also inexpensive. Haven't checked out the absinthe selection yet, but will definitely go back to this place again. Good spot. Parking garage directly across the street attached to the Holiday Inn Express. read more

I didn't have food there, but the drink service was great... and they have a pretty awesome scotch list!

If you aren't from the United States, I'd recommend skipping this place. Even though every other bar we went to in philly let my friend in, Time wouldn't let him into the bar because he didn't have a US ID. We literally didn't have this problem anywhere else. This seemed very xenophobic to me. Plus they gave us a hard time for having a water bottle and didn't believe us that there was only water in it. I'm from the us, but I think they took one look at my friend and decided they needed a reason to not let him in because he wasn't American. Shame on this bar. read more

There are three distinct parts of Time that everyone should know about. Right when you walk in, you must pick a direction: Right (Whiskey Room): has an old pub feel, the bar is cornered off and takes up a decent bit of space but there are multiple tables and chairs. This room can probably hold 50 people comfortably. There are TVs in here if you want to watch a game, but the real attraction is the whiskey menu. While unassuming, it is one of the better places in the city to find whiskeys of all types. Of all of the whiskey menus I've ever laid eyes on, this is in the top tier of offerings. Left (live music): this room is significantly larger than the whiskey room and has the majority of seating/tables at Time. There is a grand rectangular bar upon entry and once you shuffle to your seat you get served pretty quickly. It's not the best in the Gayborhood, but I think the food here is pretty good. This room has giant windows that open when it's warm out and adds a very nice touch to the room. There is typically live music here (jazz, band, etc.) and both this room and the whiskey room get really busy for happy hour so make sure and get here early! Straight/upstairs (the club): I believe the upstairs is only open at night, but there is yet another bar upstairs in the back of the room which is usually pretty crowded. There will be a DJ up here spinning a good mix of rap/hip-hop/top 40/EDM. The room is dark and they have a great laser machine which makes it unique compared to its next door neighbors. This room is a lot of fun if you have a good group of people to go with who enjoy drinking and dancing. All in all, Time is a good place to drop by or go hang out for a night. The drink prices are average, though they are pretty cheap during happy hour. The food is solid. There is almost always a crowd in one of the three (if not all three) rooms. They do charge a cover later at night on the weekends so be aware (I think it's just $5). read more

This review is for the Sunday Night Jam session, downstairs. It starts about 9:30 P.M. so its lightly attended except on three day weekends. Some of the best young jazz musicians in Philly show up regularly. There's no cover. The food is good (four stars) and the service is attentive (four stars). If you enjoy good jazz and you live downtown, it's a great way to get your fix. If you're a musician, it's a great way to get your feet wet in the Philly jazz scene. read more

Time is a great cozy spot, and a worthy successor to Ludwig's Garden. With an amazing beer selection, dimly lit ambience, and live music, it is a great place to drop in for a few hours. Drinks are a bit pricey, so not easy as an everyday place, but certainly weekly. Bartenders are friendly, and VERY knowledgeable and helpful with the drink menu. Last night, a great Jazz combo called Bayou Blues was playing. It made for a great night. If you have the money, go all the Time (pun intended) , but, if you don't, make it a guilt-free splurge. read more

Good place to go after work or for a nice dinner. The bartenders are awesome. I always have a good time here.
