I used Time For A Walk for a handful of visits over Christmas. The office assistant, Sharon, was very responsive and also did our client consultation and was a pleasure to work with. My dog's sitter came reliably and I appreciated that he was clearly genuine and honest (ie for one walk he mentioned that Brody mostly sniffed around rather than covered much distance, which is totally true and showed me that I wasn't just getting a canned message about his walk). The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is how tedious the client registration process was. After my initial email inquiry, I was sent a 15 page document to complete, scan, and send back- all before even confirming my service requests were doable or answering my questions about how billing would work. I know there are online portals for walk services that might have made getting set up a little more convenient, and which allow for email walk messages rather than the paper and pen notepad messages. But again, no complaints about the staff or service that would prevent me from recommending this business- just some opportunities for the client-side experience. read more

Buyer beware! If you want a safe, reliable, and trustworthy company to walk your dog; look elsewhere! I began daily walks with "Time For a Walk" in early February 2011. During my initial consult, I stressed the importance of A) meeting the walker before the service began and B) obtaining references for the walker and/or company. I repeated my requests several times and was always provided with suspicious excuses. I continued the service during the first week with hesitation. On the fourth day of service, I came home to find the front door of my home locked but OPEN! Thankfully my dog was still in the home but I can not imagine what could have happened due to the negligence of this company and their dog walker. I was shocked with this discovery and when calling the company to complain, the only response of the owner was to insist that they have never had complaints with my walker and to encourage me to allow them to provide references for him. Needless to stay, I canceled the service and have since found a reliable and reputable walking service. Upon mentioning this incident to a neighbor; she, too, told me of an unacceptable experience with this company. I have filed comments with the Better Business Bureau and can only hope that a similar incident doesn't happen to another person who unknowingly places their trust in this company. read more

Bottom-line - If you have large dogs DO NOT use these people. They will rip you off and leave you with in a lurch. I have used TFAW since April 2011 to walk my large dogs. Before this week I would have given them 3 or 4 stars, but now I think they have earned less then 1. For the last 12 months they walked my two large dogs will little problems until my regular walk quit. After the male walker left , TFAW claimed none of their employees could walk my dogs together in the time I was paying for because all their employee were females and not capable of walking my dogs together. On a friday afternoon, I get an email from their office staff telling me I could pay $80 more a month for them to walk my dogs, pay them $220 to have them let the dogs out in my fenced backyard or I could find a new dog walking company. While TFAW did offer reference to other companies but that isn't very helpful on a Friday afternoon. Of course, they did offer to walk my dogs for another week so I could find a new company, but I wouldn't trust my dogs' care to them after they unceremoniously backed me into a corner. What make this so frustrating this then have been walking my dogs since the were puppies. Even though my Irish Wolfhound and English Mastiffs are big animals, TFAW know they were going to get bigger since they day they took us on customers. They only started complaining about size of my dogs when I ask why the goes weren't being walked according to the agreed contract. After nearly 18 months with this company, I safely say STAY AWAY. They are happy to take your money and even happier to walk away. read more

4.5 stars I have been using TFAW for two months now and am very happy with their dog walking services. The office manager is extremely organized, responsive, and a pleasure to work with. The owner of TFAW was very sweet when I had to cancel petsitting b/c my puppy was sick. She seemed genuinely concerned about the little guy's well being. My dog walker has gone above the call of duty several times in taking care of my puppy, e.g. giving him a bath when he had an accident in his crate. She leaves me detailed notes everyday and I get the sense she really loves to take care of my puppy. I trust this company and would recommend them whole heartedly. We have been using TFAW for weekday walks since June of 2010 and have been very happy. The walkers have always made an effort fit into Charlie's routine and make him feel comfortable. They always leave notes of who was here and when. My only concern has been with the number of different walkers we've had this year, but I won't dock them any stars for it. TFAW is GREAT! I have been using them for about 6+ months, and they are very professional and my baby has done very well with her walker! I love the professionalism of EVERYONE, appreciate the notes left every day with the time of the walk and any particulars, and when my baby needed eye drops, for a few days, no problem!!!! This firm specializes in Dog sitting services and I do not recommend them for cat sitting services. I was on extended travel recently and had asked a neighbor to drop in daily and check on my pets. As a result, my neighbor confirmed that the sitter provided by TFAW was not providing services consistently within designated hours....even skipping a day here and there although I was still being charged. When the situation was brought to the attention of TFAW, they apologized and emphasized this was an isolated incident. I would not recommend this Firm unless you have someone else coming in as a back-up to ensure you are getting what you pay for. Otherwise your pets may suffer undue stress or even serious illness due to feeding schedules being missed and/or litter not being changed properly. read more

Time for a Walk has been amazing to work with! I've used them starting in early 2010 to take care of my little old jack russell terrier who is now 16 (can barely see and hear anymore) and all the dog walkers have been so kind and patient with my little doggy. It's been great knowing that she could get a quick daytime walk and bathroom break from such caring dog walkers. Big shoutout to Sharon who has been walking Pounce for years. She leaves the best notes and was so kind to leave a few gifts for Pounce throughout the years including a box of doggie treats as a going away gift now that we're leaving the area and can no longer use their services! Also thank you to Joe who was our backup walker! Can't speak highly enough of Sharon and Time for a Walk...super helpful, very flexible and Kelly and Mike are really great about getting back quickly over email if something changes in your schedule. I've been using Time for a Walk for a little over a year, and I have been so happy with not only my walkers, but the customer service. I've had two main walkers throughout this year, and both have been so fantastic. They are friendly, I can trust them in my home when I'm not there, and, most importantly, I can see that they really like my dog, which is important. Every day, the walker leaves a note telling me about the dog's walk and notifying me when she notices something different in my dog's behavior or health, which is both thoughtful and extremely helpful. I prepay monthly for daily thirty minute walks. I work from home occasionally, and I've noticed that Wrigley's walker is always on time and always utilizes the full thirty minutes. I can also tell from my dog's behavior that she really likes the walker. A few months ago, I had one incident where I found out that a substitute walker did not take my dog on the full thirty minute walk (you can pay in 15, 30 and 60 minute increments). I immediately contacted Time for a Walk. Within 2 hours I received an e-mail from the owner expressing her concern over what had transpired, and an offer to reimburse me for not only that walk, but a few more, and a note that she would speak to her employee about this. She also assured me I would not have that walker again. I understand that an employer cannot at all times control all her employees, so I really appreciated this wonderful customer service. This was the only negative experience I have had in a year and it was immediately resolved, so I have nothing but nice words to say about this company. read more

I've been using TFAW for 6 months now and they have been great! My dog is a very...particular...dog. He's tough to get motivated for a walk, and very stubborn (typical to the breed). My walker seems to get the pup out, and it's just such a relief to know my dog gets a chance to get some fresh air and go to the bathroom while I'm at work. Recently, I had a chance meeting with the walker, as I don't think my cancellation email made it to him. It was nice to meet him, and he even chatted with me and let me know he had researched the breed and we exchanged some notes on caring for the dog. TFAW walked my less than perfect dog for 6 months and I would definitely recommend the service. I lived in a large apartment building and signed up for daily 15 minute walks. The price was right and my dog was always walked. There was an incident while my regular walker was on vacation but the office staff handled it promptly. My regular walker also picked up all the weekend and after work walks, which was a nice plus. TFAW was very patient and understanding when my dog behaved poorly the first few attempts at walking him. It was a huge relief that they continued to work with him/us. The office staff was always quick to communicate any issues and confirm additional or cancelled walks. read more

I've been using TFAW since March of 2012. I have had nothing but positive experiences. My dog walker, Liz, is absolutely incredible. My dog loves her, she is detailed, writes me detailed notes each day and really cares about the well-being of my dog. She has even taught my dog tricks. Prices are really competitive for the area. Customer service has been great, they always respond to e-mails quickly and the payment is easy. When my dog was injured I would get a phone call if my dog seemed sick or hurt or there was any sort of change, which really gave me the peace of mind to go back to work and trust my dog with Liz. I am really happy with TFAW after first time using their service last week. The overall service is great. The staffers and the owner are very nice and professional. When I came back from the trip from overseas, I was so happy to see the note that our dog walker, April, had recorded everytime she came. My dog Chai seemed to be happy with April which usually he is a grumpy chihuahua. Anyway I am highly recommend Time for a Walk for people who are looking for dog walkers. We have used TFAW for nearly 3 years for two different dogs and a cat. They have shown great responsiveness, responsibility, and care for our pets. Our current greyhound adoptee is a retired racer from the track and did very well transitioning into his life as a retiree. One area he had trouble was trusting a walker he'd only met a couple times coming into the house to take him out for a walk. He did great with us, but had been through major life changes recently and a whole new home that could all have contributed to his stuborrness with strangers TFAW showed such great patience. They tried different walkers and different methods to having him warm up to the concept. They have been succesful in getting him to go for his walks. He's come a long way and is opening up a little more to them every day and it's due to their care and patience. Their system of billing has always worked out easy for us and the process for cancelling a walk is smooth and dependable. Everyone in the office is always helpful and responsive too. read more

I have been using TFAW for midday walks for the last 3+ years. We've had the same walker for almost the entire duration (except for a few substitutes here and there for vacation/illness, etc.) and we've had zero problems. They're very reliable and leave a note after every walk. It's not the first time I've used a dogwalking service and they satisfy all my needs. Not to mention, the price is right. Every once in a while there seems to be a disconnect between the office staff and the actual walker... I'll cancel a walk because my husband is working from home and the walker still shows up. I'm disappointed to be writing this review. Bottom line: we had a horrible experience with TFAW, and I would not recommend them to anybody. Long story short: they cancelled our dog walking services with less than 24 hours notice leaving our dog with no care, broke our front door lock, and were rude and hostile when we attempted to reach a solution. For seven months, we had been loyal customers of TFAW, paying $500/month for dog walking services. In late July, our regular dog walker quit working there, which is when the problems began. The new dog walker came and left without incident on Monday. On Tuesday, he apparently tried to force the key to turn in the front door lock, causing the key to actually break off in the door (you can imagine the level of unnecessary force that must have been used for this to happen). With the key snapped off in the lock, the dog walker had no way to get into the house, even using the other spare key that TFAW has. For approximately four hours of my work day, I was repeatedly interrupted as TFAW called me, attempting to use our hidden keys to get in the back door with no success, eventually able to get our dog back inside, after having her out in the heat for several hours. We returned home to the snapped-off key still in the front door lock, and it became clear that a locksmith would be needed to fix the problem. We asked TFAW if they would like to hire and pay for a locksmith to repair the damage that their employee caused, or if they would like use to hire one and send them the bill. The owner of the company emailed back a very hostile response, saying that our "sticky" lock was a "maintenance issue" and somehow his employee was not responsible for the fact that the employee snapped a key off in the front door lock, despite the fact that our previous dog walker had no such problems for 7 months and of course we ourselves use that very same lock every day without snapping any keys off. We asked that the employee that snapped the key off not walk our dog any more. At 8 p.m. that night, we received an email from the owner of TFAW declaring that, since we asked that the employee that destroyed our property not walk our dog any more, TFAW would be unable to provide us with dog walking services any more. Apparently, in their entire company, there was not one single other employee available who could walk our pet for 15 minutes in a 2 hour window. I shudder to think what would have happened if this employee called in sick to work--apparently TFAW is so leanly staffed that they are unable to call in substitutes for their dog walkers. Or they were lying and being spiteful and nasty. Either way, at 8 p.m. at night, our dog was left without anyone to walk her while we were at work the next day. Our options were to either leave work in the middle of the day to let her out ourselves, or leave our dog in her crate all day long. For anyone who does not want to be put in this awful position, I suggest that you NOT use TFAW. If you dare you speak up and disagree with an element of service they provide, such as when one of their employees destroys your property and you want them to be held accountable, they will drop your dog with no warning. TFAW obviously has no customer loyalty, no pride in service, and not even any common decency. I recommend using any of the many other dog walking services in NoVA and stay away from Time for a Walk. read more

Great dog-walking service! They are flexible and easy to work with. I never worried about a thing once they started with my dog. I knew someone would always be there to let him out, that they'd let me know if my dog seemed "off," and I thought it might be weird letting strangers in the apartment every day, but I didn't even think twice about it because these folks are so professional. The evaluation was easy and they took the time to make sure my dog got what he needed (and I got what I wanted) out of the mid-day walks. My primary walker was something of a dog whisperer who left me lots of tricks and details in the note she left after the walks. She would let me know if anyhting was amiss, and once she stayed with him for an extra hour when he was having some trouble. I think that is really their standard, the substitute walkers all seemed equally enthused about their little client. Their monthly contract rates are a great value. read more

I thought it was great that they came to do an initial consultation and their team really seems to care a great amount for their furry clients. I contacted the office manager through the website, and despite their huge advertising push on the web and in their automated email response- they say that they cannot take any new clients at this time. Keep in mind this is after I already sent them a 10 page form including a LOT of personal information (and payment info!!) which they REQUIRE before responding to you to schedule a free consultation (also required before they will walk your dog). This is a GREAT business with very reasonable prices. When a job change meant my husband had to work in an office instead of from home, we were left scrambling to find somebody to care for our two pups during the work day. We started with another well known company in the area who charges twice what we pay Time for a Walk. And while the other company did a perfectly fine job, our budget simply couldn't afford to pay over $400 a month to walk our two guys-especially when all we really needed was somebody to let the boys out in the fenced in back yard. We switched to TFAW after reading yelp reviews, and couldn't be happier. We save TONS of money have not sacrificed quality of care AT ALL. TFAW is very flexible, they charge for time instead of per dog, which means our two boys get a chance to potty and stretch their legs without breaking our bank. We've also used TFAW for pet sitting when we have been on vacation, and I couldn't have been happier with the service-it cost us less than boarding the dogs, and the boys were able to stay in the comfort of their own home. I can't say anything but great things about TFAW. The people are great and easy to work with and take great care of my two girls. I've been using TFAW for just over a year when they came to my rescue after another dog-walker failed to show up, TWICE. I should mention that I don't have the most best behave dogs,but my walker Nancy handles them well and has nothing but wonderful comments about them in her post-walk notes to me. Plus Nancy also lets me know if she notices anything odd that I should be concerned about with either my girls. The other thing that make me happy is the numerous times my neighbors have mentioned to me how good, professional and friendly TFAW is when they see my girls out with Nancy on their midday walks. I moved to Northern Virginia in Aug of 2011 and brought with me one giant dog and one not so small cat. Since I moved here I have acquired a small 6 lbs chi-mix as well. None of my pets have ever been boarded and considering that I moved here away from friends and family I needed a safe, reliable alternative to boarding and/or leaving my pets with friends. (I still don't want to have to board them.) I HIGHLY recommend Time For A Walk! The prices are extremely reasonable and I've found them to be nothing but professional. I communicate with them primarily via email and they are always prompt to respond with confirmation of my appointments. I use their service on an ad-hoc basis when I go out of town for work or have weekend plans that don't allow me to take a break to return home and walk the dogs. The dog walkers ALWAYS leave a little note letting me know how their visit went and I find the notes to be sweet, honest, and fun! Most of the times I am only paying them to walk my 2 dogs but the walkers always take time to mention my cat and how they played with him too! (I do pay for all 3 when feedings are involved.) When I am away for longer trips they also water my plants, feed my fish, and clean my cat's littler box. I'd be lost without Time For A Walk and love their services and their reliability. I got home early once (forgetting I had hired TFAW to come) and when my dogs spotted their dog walker it was like seeing a long lost friend. TFAW was recommended to us by a friend when we recently (and somewhat unexpectedly) adopted a new puppy. TFAW was super responsive to our initial emails inquiring about service and were quick to visit with us / set us up for daily walks. Although it has only been a week, we cannot be more thrilled. We currently use them for twice a day walks and were assured that when our puppy grows out of the twice-a-day walks, it won't be a problem to switch to only once-a-day. This was very reassuring since many places make you enter into "contracts" for services. Like I said, it hasn't been long (and I promise to update soon!), but we couldn't he happier! In our initial meeting we were explained all of the safety procedures that they follow and were ensured that emergencies are taken seriously. I think one of my favorite things is that they have an actual office and will gladly help you if you're locked out during business hours (I mean, who HASN'T been locked out?) Our little man is still very little, so we don't have any plans to use their overnight sitting services, but I am definitely looking forward to that option in the future. **UPDATE** We've used TFAW for just over 10 months now and are still thrilled with the service!! read more

I have been using TFAW for 6 months for once a week walks for my dog. I wish I could give 5 starts to my dog walker because she is great. She always leaves notes and our dog is really happy on the days he gets walked. However, we no longer use TFAW because of the poor customer service. The first month with TFAW, they sent an invoice to both my husband and myself. Both of us paid the bill, so we had a credit for the following month. However, the following month the credit wasn't applied to our account. We had to call in and wait for our bill the month after to finally have our credit applied. This past week, we called in and spoke to an office worker to schedule a walk for the weekend. Come the weekend, the walker didn't show up. Of course, anyone with a dog knows that if you plan your doggy's day around a walker, it is BAD NEWS if the dog isn't let out as planned. It was unlike our walker to not show up, so we called the emergency number. Three hours later our phone didn't ring but we got a magical voice mail (non apologetic, of course) saying that we hadn't scheduled an appointment for the weekend. We're not sure how that could be because our cell phone call log clearly showed the date/time/duration of our conversation with TFAW. We called TFAW asap two days later to figure out what happened. A simple apology for a miscommunication or some sort of acknowledgment of a mistake by TFAW would've been nice. Instead we were told they didn't even know who was working the day we called and we should've called TFAW a second time if we didn't get an email confirmation. Our problems with this are: 1) why should we have to call twice to schedule a walk, and 2) we didn't realize TFAW had an email confirmation policy, such that walks are not scheduled unless we receive an email confirmation. We double checked the website but didn't see anything about this. We had other walks in the past that we made or canceled without an email confirmation. Long story short, we will no longer be using TFAW because of the poor customer service. When it comes to our beloved dog, we need people we can trust, who have a clear business process and value their customers. Unfortunately, TFAW doesn't offer any of this. read more

We have used Time for a Walk for about 6 months. We have been especially impressed by the caliber of the dog walkers that they have on staff - we are lucky to have Liz who is just awesome! Pebbles, our rather feisty Chihuahua, loves her - and she usually growls and hides in a corner when strangers come around. Liz is someone we trust in our home and with our dog, that says a lot. TFAW has hired some great people, we had one person who wasn't a match for our dog, but they quickly resolved the issue and now Liz is our gal. I've used TFAW for almost a year now and am leaving the service only because I'm moving out of state and wish I could take Carol with me! The customer service is great and the price is competitive for the area. They worked with me when I had a 6 month old puppy in coming a few times a day and would call me if she got into something. Carol definitely is an animal lover and I've had a very pleasant experience working with them, if I've had issues it's because I wouldn't hear the phone ring when they needed let in on late add-on walks, whoops! I have a pitbull/carolina dog mix who has some pretty extreme temperament issues and the office manager, Kelly, and my dog walker, Mike, met with her for 4 days in a row (together) to ensure a safe transition for my pup, Sienna. Mike leaves notes each day and is sure to tell me if something didn't go as planned and even if all did go as planned, he details his walk with Sienna, leaving me with peace of mind knowing that my dog is being properly cared for. I used TFAW years ago for dog walking and pet-sitting, and have been recently using their daily walking service. Every time I contact them, the office is responsive and helpful. I've called them last-minute, requested changes in service, added foster dogs, etc. and they have always been accommodating and fair. The owner, Christina, came over two times to do the consultation--the very first time I used TFAW, and then again years later after I moved and had different dogs. She is great to work with and really seems to care about the different needs of each household that TFAW services. It can be a little nerve-wracking to have people that you've never met before in your home, but all of the walkers and sitters they send are friendly and professional and leave notes after each visit. Since I work from home sometimes, I have had opportunities to meet the walkers and have always felt comfortable with them. More importantly, the dogs jump up excitedly when they know the walker is here. Most recently, Travis has been walking our dogs, and he has been great! I highly recommend this service. read more
