With water levels low in September, we did not have a lot of options for rafting locations. Four of us joined a Shoshone Rapids trip with Timberline. I received a couple of emails before our trip and someone called the day before to remind us of the pickup. We were picked up at our hotel (very convenient!) and we then went to pick up our equipment and the raft. All the employees were very professional and it is clear they know what they are doing. Our guide directed us through the rapids without any problems. We would like to return during the spring to experience a different location. read more

We white water rafted with Natalia (level 3) and she was awesome! Gave us some geology and history points along the Colorado river. We spotted a bald eagle....She was a lot of fun for our kids... perfect first time rafting for a 15 & 13 year old. Lots of points to jump into the water and float alongside the raft. My extended family and I went on a lovely 1/2 day Colorado River excursion with Timberline a few days ago and had a wonderful time. We were a group of 13, ranging in age from 4 to 70. What an awesome experience- from start to finish. What was so incredible is that everyone in our family had a complete ball - from my husband and I to our teenage daughters. Our teenagers felt empowered and capable- and were happily "phone-less" - yay! The section of the Arkansas river that we went down was just gorgeous... such amazing scenery. Our guide, Larkin, had been rafting for over 20+ years and had experience rafting and guiding rafting all over the world - literally!!! Chile, Turkey, India, etc etc. The camaraderie between he and Nate, the guide who lead the other boat in our group, was so cool- they worked so well together. We felt 100% safe the entire time and properly guided through the level 3 rapid sections. Larkin was the absolute best blending lots of info on the local culture and history with wonderful genuine sense of humor. He picked us up in Vail and the hour drive from Vail to Granite was just as fun as the rafting experience. There are so many historically rich towns along the way! If your planning to go rafting, obviously can't say enough positive about our experience with Timberline!! read more

What an excellent experience and I would highly recommend if you are either visiting the Colorado area or currently living there. I was in Vail with a few friends and one of them decided to book this rafting trip after researching them on line. We met them at Vail Village and they did the rest of the travel from there. We had a very pleasant interaction with them from the very beginning and the booking went very smoothly. I would have to say without a doubt the most fun I have had in ages. These guys are very fun to be around, joking a lot of the way but also very serious when it comes down to it. We ended up opting for the Gore Canyon trip which is by far the best but most physically demanding rafting trips I have ever been on. The guides prep you for the intense rapids in a way that we were not used to, but I have to say, it prepared us for the worst. The trip was absolutely amazing and Antony (our guide) was awesomely patient and extremely knowledgeable. Not to mention the scenery and rapids were amazing. Ollie, our safety kayaker was also great! The one downside... I wish they could raise the water temp! I would highly recommend booking with these guys for your next rafting trip. Whether it is a challenging class V stretch or the class II and III's below, you will not be disappointed and will most likely be hooked! A great experience and definitely one to remember! read more

I was extremely nervous about going rafting, especially after hearing we would start with class 4 rapids on the Eagle River. It turned out to be one thrilling adventure. Our guide Chris was incredible. He made sure we understood what all the terms and instructions would be before we set out. During the trip, he gave us the historical background on the area and pointed out locations of interest. Chris really has a passion for the area and what he does and that really came through on our guided trip. We had a big group from the Vail Veterans Program, so we split up into 3 rafts. Of course there is always that "one guy" that has to act up, sure enough our friend was trying to get everyone wet or push them into the cold water. Becky, the guide from our sister raft was able to handle that situation with humor and professionalism, always mindful of safety, so kudos to her as well. Our trip ended with a tasty BBQ lunch. Wonderful family experience from beginning to end. Timberline picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. Our tour included category 3 & 2 rapids, very kid friendly. Our guide, Jacquin, was both professional and friendly. My 10 year old, who was hesitant at first, had the biggest smile on his face when it ended. This has been the worst experience I've had white water rafting. The workers were so disrespectful and so mean towards high paying customers. So mean in fact that I couldn't even raft with my family. I feel like I could make a better business in a week then they have in years of service. To be honest I'd rate them 1/10. read more

He was thoughtful and knowledgeable and took the time to customize our experience based on our reactions to the beauty around us! He anticipated our needs and made sure we were warm enough by bringing us cozy sleeping bags for us to wrap up in as we scouted for wildlife...of which we saw plenty! I was staying in Vail for work during the "off-season" and wanted to experience real Colorado. I luckily found Timberline Tours and signed up for a Jeep trip. It was absolutely terrific. Matt picked me up at my hotel and provided a sleeping bag to keep me warm since it was about 40 degrees and we were riding in an open air Jeep. There were three other passengers and he let us decide what route we wanted to take; we decided on going up New York Mountain. He provided great information during the entire trip and was very friendly and relaxed. When we got to the mountain's peak, we were provided with an assortment of snacks and drinks. All in all, this was an awesome experience and I will definitely come back the next time I'm in the area! read more

If possible, avoid the rafting guide Alejandro. Had a three-peat rafting trip today and being the second time doing this, have something to compare it to. We came a little close to hitting a rock today and he blamed one paddler for the cause of the not so near mishap. All were paddling to the best of their abilities and he almost steered us into the rock formation. If it was the fault of the 'guests' to make sure that no accidents happen, then they wouldn't be able to have rafting trips down that somewhat quiet section. And certainly don't be rude to the guests. Will use another rafting company next time. read more

We had the best time ever rafting the Upper Eagle, Class III and IV, in June. With the heavy snows this year, the Eagle River was roaring. The guides for Timberline know what they are doing, giving you expert advice on technique and safety. Our guide Christian, was amazing. He told us exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. And he was simply fun to be with. During the trip, he told us we were awesome, better than the young guys he had earlier that day, and said if we do it again, to ask for him, because he had as much fun as we did. I would not recommend this for young kids though unless they are fit and experienced. Parts of the run are pretty wild! But so much fun. If you're looking for a great raft trip, choose a Timberline, and Christian! read more

If your family likes being asked if you're racist for asking common questions, this may be the guide service for you. The staff was condescending from the moment we walked in, not very informative and when we started to ask questions about how many people would be on the boat we were given answers like "zero if it flips over or 20 if being rescued" which was very exciting for my nervous 10 year old. Then we asked again, how many would be on our boat as we are a family of five and hoped for a private family outing so things like group pictures would include "people we know". They guide asked why we wanted to be on a private boat "are there certain races or religions you can't be with?" Wow, wait, what?!?!? He was not kidding, he was truly annoyed by our questions and wanted that known. This all occurred in front of several staff, they did not seem surprised. He got all of his well scripted zingers in, not his first rodeo. That's the first time in my life I have been all but accused of being a bigot. We did not let the guide finish his condescending questions, just scooped up the kiddos and left to make other arrangements. I get having staff that doesn't enjoy their jobs, and this place is like the DMV of mountain tours. Got up early (on vacation) drove 30 mins and all for nothing. They did not care that we left. This seems indicative of the management culture here, probably not a one off experience. You've now been empowered with the knowledge of my experience and I think you can do better than this place. read more
