My husband did a guided float trip with VVA yesterday down the Eagle River. He had a great time and caught 10-12 fish which were immediately released. He really appreciated the ability to catch so many varieties of trout on a sunny day in Colorado. read more

I went fly fishing for the first time today with my husband and guided by John Martin. John took us to a beautiful location along Eagle River. John is highly knowledgeable but very humble and easy going. He was equally patient and kind, and a true pleasure to spend the morning with. Highly recommend! read more

Best fly-fishing guide ever - Chase was incredible. Kind, patient, smart and an incredible teacher. We had the best time with him via Vail Valley Anglers. Highly recommend!! read more

My guide, Sean, on a full day of fun on the Colorado, and I had a great time and caught 14 trout. Sean knew all the pullouts and flys to catch fish. Probably all the guides are knowledgeable but I'll go back to Sean if he is there. Lunch was great and the river was swift. While pricey, I must warn you that the booking system and web site needs work... read everything and save all correspondence. I did post questions on the web site and never got a response. The one phone call I made did answer my questions but I got no response or followups from that conversation either. Nor did I get any emails reminding me when and where. If you are expecting VIP service for $600, don't count on it. read more

Really excellent activity. I'd never been to Vail, never been fly fishing, and this is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the area's beautiful nature. Josh was SO great, friendly, punctual, a very clear and calm instructor. He's passionate about fishing and Vail Valley is lucky to have him! read more

Will Watson guided my wife and me on a half-day trip down the Upper Eagle and we had an absolute blast. He put us on a ton of fish and was patient with our beginner level fly fishing skills. We can't wait to hire him again during our next trip to the Vail Valley--fly fishing is a must for any visitor and Will is an outstanding guide with a deep love of the sport and the natural ecosystem that supports it. Can't recommend Will or Vail Valley Anglers highly enough! read more

Another phenomenal fishing trip with Vail Valley Anglers does not begin to describe our trip! For years, I bring friends to our house in Cordillera to fish each summer. This past week, 8 of us fished in 4 boats for several days with Will Watson, Greg Harvey, Jim Mallos, and Rick King we amazing guides!! we caught over 100 fish per day in the net (another 100 we got close but missed each day). Some of us are experts, some intermediate, and some were beginners - everyone caught fish and everyone had such an amazing time!!!! This was the 4th year a beginner in our friend group that won our group competition (competition among friends! ;-) I have used Will and Vail Valley Anglers for years. He/they are so knowledgeable about the rivers, so patient, great teachers, and great fishermen! They make it so so so easy to go fishing!!! If you are thinking about it...... quit thinking and GO DO IT!!! You will absolutely love fly fishing with this outfitter!!! read more

This was a wonderful experience, I wanted to learn how to fly fish. I've fished my whole life, but never fly fished... My guide Jaden was fantastic. He taught me a lot, he didn't make any promises about whether we'd actually catch a fish (it's called fishing for a reason!), and yet we still caught a bunch. The business and Jaden had a great deal of knowledge, were really welcoming, respected the river and the fish there. I had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this organization. read more

We had a great day on the Eagle River with Vail Valley Anglers. 3/4 people had never fly fished before. Jim & Kyle were extremely patient with those that did not know how to fly fish. They were very knowledgeable and encouraging. They got everyone on fish for our half day float. Both excellent guides and would use them again. read more

Slow day for fishing, but our guide was knowledgeable and pull out all the tricks. Gave us some great advice and we enjoyed a day out on the river. The folks at the shop were super friendly. Can't wait to come back next time. read more

Top notch experience! I booked this trip for my husband and my anniversary. Our adventure options were skiing, snowmobiling, or fishing. After some research, we opted to do the float fishing tour. Not disappointed with our decision. Justin was our guide and he was amazing. We caught a lot of fish and had a blast. The float on the river was safe and fun as well. I would definitely recommend if you're in the Vail/Aspen area. read more

6/19 - 6/21. Did 3 days of guided fishing with Will and Vail Valley Anglers. Setting up the trip the shop was great to deal with. Easy online reservations and when you go in the shop, they are awesome. Our guide (Will) did his best to make for an excellent trip. My son was a relative beginner with a fly rod and after 3 days of coaching and reinforcement, he was casting and landing fish with confidence. Bucket list trip for me. Thanks Vail Valley Anglers!! read more

Incredible Me and my husband have never ice fished before. I recently had a c-section and was unable to skii on our annual skii trip. My husband found vail valley anglers and suprised me with ice fishing, and it was one of the best experiences. I have gone game fishing, bay fishing, and it was amazing to try the unique experience we had with our angler. Jim was probably one of the best guides we have had in any vacation. He was so informative, had respect for the wildlife we caught, answered all of my millions of questions happily, very personable and a talented and educated angler that will make your experience like nothing you have experienced before. We had such an amazing experience we booked a second trip within the same week. I highly recommend this company and even more Jim. read more

What a wonderful time with Max guiding us this morning on the Eagle River in Avon. From beginning to end, we had an exceptional all-around experience. Max was patient, safety-conscience, and an excellent instructor. We learned so much about the native wildlife and the local ecosystem. Best of all, we caught several fish, including a cutthroat trout, that Max explained was very rare for the area. I would highly recommend Vail Valley Anglers and Max, especially, since our fishing experience was made most special by having such a knowledgable, experienced and patient guide who was determined to ensure we caught fish and left with a better sense of the Eagle River and surrounding area. What an excellent ambassador for Vail Valley Anglers and the community Max is! We're hoping to join Vail Valley Anglers on future fly fishing adventures--with Max if available or with other of Vail Valley Angler's guides. read more

Recently went on roughly my sixth trip with Vail Valley Anglers and specifically guide Shaun Twomey. Had an incredible day of dry fly fishing with Shaun, if you put the fly where he told you there were consistently fish. Shaun is punctual (important in the world of fishing), professional and provides a wealth of knowledge about both fly fishing and the water he guides. Even more importantly both Vail Valley Anglers, and Shaun specifically, aren't just trying to push you on the water whether or not the conditions warrant a trip. For example, I was scheduled to go on a float trip about 3 weeks prior with Shaun and he called it off because of run off that stretched unusually long this year. By doing that it was money out of his pocket but it saved me the time, effort and money for a trip that would have been poor at best due to the river conditions. In short I can't recommend Vail Valley Anglers strongly enough and ask for Shaun, I couldn't imagine a better way to spend the day. read more

Keegan and Vail Valley Anglers are TOP NOTCH! I had been fishing Co waters for a couple days and coming up with an empty net. What that tells me is I am doing something wrong. I was a walk in to the shop and requesting a guide trip for that day. 2 phone calls were made and I was set up for a guide trip at 10am. Keegan was on time and ready to get me on some fish. Not only that but he was able to tell me a great location to camp. We got on the water and was immediately on fish. We moved to their private waters and that is when it got REAL! Keegan worked his butt off to be sure I landed the fish I hooked on. Climbing boulders to free my line, talking me through keeping the fish on the line, to wading down stream to crossing the river to free up yet another wrap around a rock, to rushing back to be sure to net the fish for me. He explained what flies we were using and why, to what depth to set the rig. Where we fished is where I camped and I headed out solo the next morning and thanks to Keegan's info I was able to land some nice sized fish solo. So, ya, Keegan is amazing BUT the guys in the shop are equally amazing. I was on a road trip around CO and they gave me suggestions on other fishing locations, other guide shops and other campgrounds. They were spot on at every location, guide shop and campground. A total all around WIN! The whole crew is absolutely amazing! read more

Wow... fabulous experience with Will & Greg! Great respect for the Colorado River, helpful information about the bugs & fish habits, fabulous high quality equipment, great boat, and most of all, we all caught fish and had a grand time! Reserving times and dates was so easy with their phone & email updates. Guides were patient and helpful ....and entertaining! They knew all the ideal spots for catching fish... and we did... what a thrill. For all of us, it was our first time fly-fishing; we are "hooked" ... going back with Will & Greg again. read more

$120 for all the gear needed for fly fishing; great staff, simple return; return customer!

Fished with guide Ed Lawn from VVA on a float trip from Carbondale to Glenwood Springs, Sunday 7/10/22. Conditions were good, though the bite was challenging. After an hour or so of no fish seen among our four rafts, Ed tapped his 39 years of experience and made the game day decision to change up our technique in an unconventional way. We were going to use this for only a half hour or so and if it didn't produce, we would change it up again. Needless to say, I caught more fish than anyone in our party and we released many more than several in our party combined! It was a truly memorable day. Ed is the consummate outdoorsman with four decades as a fly fishing guide. His ability to interpret conditions and respond effectively to produce for his clients is exceptional . Everyone can catch fish on a hot bite. When things get tough, Ed's skill set puts him head and shoulders above the crowd. Book Ed Lawn if you want to learn more than you thought you knew, have a great day on the river and release a bunch of beautiful trout. He is as fishy as they come and a gentleman as well. read more

I love my personal gudie his name is Shaun Twomey I have enjoyed this experts company as he taught me to fly fish from his float boat on the Eagle river. I know there are a lot of anglers out there but he deserves to be the number 1 fly fishing guide in the entire area. He has a great personality and is highly requested so please get your reservation in as early as possible. We caught 10 rainbow/brown trout on the Eagle river last week which was June 21 and he helped me step by step as he talked me through each move to make and he was always right. It is easy to find an angler in this area but not to find the best!! I also went Ice Fishing with him on Sylvan Lake last winter which was the best time I have ever done this. I have fly fished in Aspen and this gentle, expert with a great sense of humor offers everything one needs to enjoy your time and to learn is #1 in my humble book. He is an expert so if you are you won't be dissapointed!! Eother way he is my guide for life in Vail. read more

We fished with Jim Mallos of Vail Valley Anglers on 6/18/23. We fished the lower Eagle River from an inflatable drift boat. He is a very knowledgeable, personable and hard working guide. We have fished a lot and with many guides and he was great! We would fish with him again. He was very knowledgeable about this stretch of river and about fly fishing in general. Even at the end of the charter he was fishing hard and did not 'mail it in'. If you are fishing in this area you would do well to use this company and Jim Mallos as a guide! read more

Grateful to Will and Casey for yet another awesome float day with Vail Valley Anglers. This is our second time fly fishing with this outfitter and I am a delighted repeat customer!! We fished the Roaring Fork this time, and have also fished the Colorado with VVA. Will made us feel comfortable and made sure we had a great time, but also taught us a LOT. We ended up pulling in close to 20 fish! (Will even held the fish for me because as much as I like to catch them, it's not my thing to hold them.) Casey challenged the guys in the second boat to throw streamers which resulted in a new skill and some big fish. I also really appreciated the care they took of the fish, ensuring hands were clean for holding them and they didn't spend much time out of the water. If you're looking for an awesome fly fishing outfitter, I'd recommend a trip with Vail Valley Anglers and in particular our guides Will and Casey. Have fun out there! read more

Had an amazing guided full-day wade on the Eagle with Will Watson from Vail Valley Anglers. Conditions were tough. The water was high and a bit off-color but after a slow start to the day Will got me onto fish. He was very deliberate in locating where the fish were and patient with my mending and landing. The tips he provided ensured I caught and brought more fish to net that day and will pay dividends for the future. If you are looking for a guide who really knows the Eagle and has a generous, chill demeanor, I cannot recommend Will Watson enough. They have a good scene going at Vail Valley Anglers, great shop with great people. read more

This was my first fly fishing trip, and the patience and dedication I received from my guide (Will) could NOT have been better. I am 90% sure he wanted me to catch a fish more than I did (and i really wanted one), and took his time to impart as much knowledge as possible on me during the short 8 hour trip. I cannot recommend Vail Valley Anglers enough, and I hope to schedule another trip with them sometime soon. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped by the shop on a whim one day and talked with Brett who was very knowledgeable and friendly. I have always wanted to try fly fishing so we ended up booking a full day float trip for the next week and could not have been more pleased. Our guide James was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about our first fly fishing experience. James taught us a lot in a short time and we were casting and catching fish before we knew it. His calm, clear, patient and fun teaching style really broke down the mechanics of fishing and made it a breeze to learn a variety of casts and understand the different types of water. We had such a great time on our first trip we have since booked several more with James and Chris Woo; one with my 15 year old nieces. Our favorite trip has been the Colorado River float. The scenery through the canyons are absolutely spectacular. There where bald eagles, big horn sheep and as long as people continue to practice catch and release, plenty of fish. The Eagle float is equally as spectacular, we just felt a bit more "away from it all" on the Colorado. If you're looking for an unforgettable fishing experience I'd highly recommend a float down the Colorado River with James, Chris and/or any of Vail Valley Anglers capable guides. read more

I couldn't find on your site where to leave a review so am using Yelp.com. My friend Tom and I fished 3 days with Keegan Axtell this past week and had one of the best times ever fly fishing. We fished the Colorado, Eagle and Roaring Fork rivers. We caught some 17" to 20" in Browns and Rainbows. I had one on that took me down to the backing. Keegan was great he new the rivers and what flies to use. He had us both dry fly fishing and nymphing. I would recommend him to anyone as one of the most knowledgeable and friendly guides we have fished with. Thanks, Bob Cappallo and Tom Hall read more

Jim M. Was our guide. It was both of our first times (me and my wife) fly fishing and he got us out on a boat on the Colorado river for a half day float. He put us on fish for the entire float. We learned so much and we laughed the entire time. One of the best outdoor experiences of my life. Couldn't recommend it enough. Don't wade. Pay the little extra to float. read more

Took my boy on his first float trip for his 13th birthday. Our guide (Marc Barnwell) showed us the time of our lives- 35+ fish on the Colorado River. Mixed bag of browns, bows and cutties- caught on dries, nymphs and streamers. Marc knew the river like the back of his hand- had us rigged and positioned for every riffle and hole on the water. Great mix of guiding, teaching and letting my boy just relax and have fun. Picked-up some great tips on techniques, reading water and bug selection. Most importantly, my boy had "the best birthday ever." Thanks to Marc and VVA- can't wait to bring younger son next yr! read more

My son and I had good day fishing with Andy "Otter" Smith. He was very knowledgeable. We fished from a boat rather than wading. The only downside was that the water was still a little rough so the fishing holes were limited. For the holes we could fish we caught some most of the time. Definitely recommend Otter as a guide. read more

From beginning to end just a great experience with this group. The reservations were easy and very accommodating. Very welcoming place from start to finish. Don't know how our float trip guided by Will Watson could have been better (okay maybe a 20 Inch Brown instead of the 18's we caught :)). He was beyond knowledgeable, helpful and just plain fun.
