American Ski Exchange - Ski & Snowboard Shops Near Me - Vail, Colorado

Today, I had an extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience at American Ski Exchange. I rented equipment for my three children, initially agreeing to rent Monday, skip Tuesday, and resume Wednesday, paying only for those days. An employee assured me that renting Friday and Sunday, skipping Saturday, would be fine. When I returned today to confirm extending for Friday and Sunday, the owner attended me. He refused, insisting I pay for unused days. I said I wouldn't pay for days I wouldn't use. He offered the option to pay more or return and re-rent. When I said I would simply return and re-rent, he grew dissatisfied and pressured me to pay for more days. That's when the conflict escalated. Upon returning the gear, he used offensive language in front of my children, staff, and other customers. It was unacceptable. I recommend you go elsewhere. Many places will treat you with genuine care, kindness, and professionalism. You don't need to endure public disrespect. read more

We had so much fun tubing in Vail Village. The rental included shoes, life jacket, and a tube, along with directions of where to drop in and pick up. The water was a little shallow, so it was a short run to avoid walking in the creek but we did it multiple times and it was a great time! read more

I have to give a 1 star. But this isn't about skiing!!! This is about River Tubing. Absolutely NO!! DANGER CAUTION!!! The river tubing goes from Ford Park and ends in Lions Head. I have floated rivers all around the county. TX MO AZ NC GA SC MT this is by far the most dangerous. Fast moving water and shallow with boulders to get your feet stuck in. Good thing there is a hospital right here in Vail because you're going to need it! Hoping to be back to rate them again this winter! read more

Very glad to have found these guys. Came recently during COVID and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Walked in without a reservation and they happily took care of demo skis for myself & skis + boots + helmet for my fiancé. They even took the time to make sure that the helmet for my fiancé was the right fit (turns out that they were right, in spite of her asking for a larger size ;) Rental staff were knowledgeable and felt they knew just what to do on the bindings settings. Mainly came here due to the aggressive rental pricing, but the knowledgeable staff and convenient location (3 minutes from the gondola) made it an easy choice. We rented our ski equipment here. All people here are extremely helpful and friendly. Since we are beginners, they helped us to wear the boots and get familiar with everything. We asked tons of questions about the resort, the village and the shop, and they helped us in every single aspect that you can imagine. Also, the location is only 1 min away from Gondola one, which is the only opened gondola for now (very early season), and onsite daily lockers are available (and at very reasonable rate),. We will definitely come back here whenever we come back to Vail! read more

The staff are WONDERFUL! Every time I come to Vail, I make sure to come in. They have everything from ski equipment in the winter, to cute dresses and graphic tees in the summer. Right now, they are having a phenomenal sale (ie. Great winter gloves are a steal right now - stock up now for the slopes in two months!) If you ever need a cute Vail gift for loved ones back home, this is a great place to get it (and it is reasonably priced)! Great shopping experience! The staff is extremely knowledgeable about ski gear and they have some great tourist merchandise. The locker room below is very clean and one of the better deals in the valley. One Stop, Local-owned, Always a Positive start to my day. I used to travel to and from Vail by air with my skis every year - a couple of years ago I did some research and found 'the oldest family-owned ski shop in Vail'. I called and spoke to a lovely lady and reserved a demo package for a week. It was significantly less than the on-mountain prices and the service was wonderful. Good, solid equipment, friendly, knowledgeable techs, no-hassle swaps based on conditions (or ability) and - the hidden gem - $1 daily and/or overnight lockers for my 'stuff' (helmet, goggle, shoes, extra layers). This place is indeed family run and it is good to be greeted by friendly faces each morning and afternoon. No grumpy-pants hungover attitudes here. They APPRECIATE my business. I always grab a souvenir shirt, hat or vest (each year) - great specials out front - or whatever I may need such as lip balm. This is a one-stop shop, great prices (for Vail) and a wonderful location 3 minutes walk from the slopes. I have been renting here for 4 seasons now, would not go anyplace else and am happy to support 'the little guy' in this Company Town. On a recent trip to Vail I rented from this family owned and operated ski shop. The skis and equipment were in good condition and the shop did have a good selection of skis to choose from. However I will stop there. The owner and his family of this elitist and entitled ski shop in Vail Village are scummy people. I had an experience there with a locker that they charged me fifty bucks for and honestly, their locker system they have here is an awful one here in Vail Village if your looking to store your stuff while your on the slopes. The owner here is not friendly or personable, and he really had an elitist attitude when me and my family dealt with him. This location also is a bit a ways away from Gondola one. While it is across a real good pizza restaurant, in order to get to the slopes to Gondola one, you have to walk up to flights of steps carrying your skis and poles. Yeah, no thank you. If you want better customer service and a much closer location to Gondola One in Vail Village, try Vista Bahn, the owners of that location have a much better attitude than this owner does here at the American Ski Exchange and a much better rental system, they have plastic bins instead of lockers, which by the way, you have to pay to use, two bucks a day to use at American Ski Exchange. Don't even ask what happens if you lose the key either. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately the owner lacks people skills, and is a serious shyster. Upon renting our gear we were told we could rent our equipment for three out of five days. But when we came back to the store, the owner intercepted us and said that he would not honor the agreement his employes made with us and that we would have to pay for the third day and he will not reserve our ski's if we choose to ski again. In sum they diddnt want to honor our agreement, (technically a contract by paying) because he diddnt want to risk losing a walk-in. If you choose to rent from them DO IT ONE DAY AT A TIME! read more

Rented a pair of basic skis. The bottom of the skis were poorly maintained, making it difficult to even maintain a straight trajectory down the catwalks. The boots malfunctioned for most of my time on the mountain. The interior padding would bunch up while I was skiing and made it feel as if I was standing on a baseball that had been halved. The buckles would not stay fastened for more than 10 or 20 minutes at a time. There has to be a better rental option in Vail. read more

I rented skis and boots from American Ski Exchange. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I usually bring my own boots but this time I couldn't. When I had trouble finding a pair of boots that fit me well the owner went out of his way to find a pair that worked. American Ski Exchange has the best prices we found in Vail near Gondola One---very near Gondola One. EASY walking distance with boots on and they have lockers for $2 a day to store your stuff in during the day and overnight. Nice equipment, very friendly staff and as I said, the best bargain in Vail. I rented ski equipment from the owner Tom and his son Jackson and even had the pleasure of also working with the sister and mother of the family business. First off, the convenience and prices are great but to top it off they offered great equipment with excellent boots that allow you to ski the whole day without complaints. The shop is less than a 2 minute walk to gondola one and they offer lockers to store your gear over night. Tom was extremely helpful in recommending what trails to start with for the kids and which ones were groomed the best. We will be back and I can't imagine going anywhere else. read more
