Customer service is horrible at this place. Brought my son in before ski school to buy a helmet as his rental helmet was uncomfortable. The guys working in the shop were standing around doing nothing. I walked over and asked if they could help us with helmets and they seemed annoyed that I was asking for their help. They walked over to the helmet section and didn't give us any help at all - they just stood there talking to each other. I was having difficulty adjusting the straps and they offered no help - literally just stood there looking at us. Agreed with the other reviewers that they are only in business because of location and name. I'm sure there are MUCH better options in Vail and will do my research on ski shops next time when we are in less of a hurry. read more

Had boots fit by Chris, he was intensely knowledgeable and patient as well. Skied 7 days and they fit like a charm... all smiles here, Thank you! My BF got his boots done by Jeff and as a first time boot owner, he was VERY pleased... clearly spoiled for good and also no issues to note. Mysteriously broke my old skis and they suggested I demo the Black Pearls- after trying a different ski to "be sure" I ended up buying the Black Pearls with sweet matching teal Salomon bindings and they are something else and I couldn't be happier!!! Vail sports became "home base" all week and everyone I saw while in and out was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. They are a world class establishment and Lisa, the manager, gets an A+ in customer service and it pervades throughout the store. Thank you guys for making our vacation memorable... I would give this store and manager (Lisa) zero stars if I could. I have never had such horrible customer service in my life. Right when we walked in the door, things started to go downhill. Lisa was rude and it was like pulling teeth trying to rent skis. After we went through the whole process, I paid $75 to rent skis and boots, they told me that due to covid she couldn't store my shoes for free but she could store them in bin and charge another $10. What?! That makes no sense. They want a customer to rent boots from them but expect you to walk barefoot to the store. I hope the owner of the company revisits this "policy" and revisits who they hire as managers. You lost a customer today over a stupid $10 and I hope I can steer other customers to go to plenty of other stores in vail you can rent from. read more

I rented gear from their sister store in Beaver Creek. On my first day of skiing, I was struggling with my boots, so we stopped off at Vail Sports to see if we could work a swap. Shelby and Brian went through four pairs of boots with me to get the right fit, and I headed out on the slopes. It was a great day of skiing, but my feet were utterly miserable, so I headed back to Vail Sports again, and that's when I met the store manager, Lisa. The amazing, brilliant, hellbent-on-problem-solving Lisa. She spent two hours, patiently fitting and tweaking a custom pair of boots for me. I took them out the next morning, stopped by for another quick tweak to the boots before I hit the gondola (thanks to Chris!) and headed for the slopes. This is the kind of care and customer service that is so rare in the world, especially when it comes to a service like rental gear, where customers are just expected to suck up some pain for a little fun. We ski Vail every year. We'll be back to buy from Lisa and her crew again. Their customer love is unsurpassed. read more

First of all, I have to give at least two stars because I filled out a survey and their corporate office has been emailing me and asking what they can improve. Here's what I told them: service, equipment and prices. Vail Sports is apparently owned by ssv.net, a giant company that runs "more than 140 premier ski, bike, golf, and fly fishing shops". Wow. One might think this would mean a greater selection and better prices...but no, it's actually the opposite. I was greeted by a big arrow pointing to a self-service computer when I entered. The computer gave me a giant print-out of tiny legal text and then I waited in line for about 30 minutes, even though there was only one person in front of me. Nevermind the cold and corporate climate, however. The bottom line is that they tried to charge me more than double what other stores charge and they had extremely limited equipment choices. To top off all the incredibly slow and inexperienced staff the person who setup my equipment said "I don't know, I don't board" when I asked why he was putting the bindings on backwards. Argh. I should have walked out right then. After wasting more than an hour trying to get someone who could wax and tune the beat up old board they wanted to rent to me as a "premium" I gave it back and quit their system. Then I asked a local for a recommendation. I literally walked around the corner to a small shop and was blown away. I spent half the amount and a tiny fraction of the time for a brand new top-of-the-line setup. Icing to the cake was staff that know the mountain, wanted to get it dialed-in and knew the right stuff for the day's conditions. Totally opposite experience to Vail Sports. The corporate email has asked me to try again, but what are the chances that they will change the staff, lower their prices to the norm, and bring in a selection of good equipment? That's like a totally different operation, which just makes me think I'd go back to the totally different operation (owner-operated and staffed by riders) that already won my business... Updated: Argh, well I received two free vouchers in the mail and a kind message. Hard for me to give less than three stars when corporate is being so thoughtful. One of the vouchers had someone else's name on it scratched out and mine written above it. Weird, and not confidence inspiring, but I still raise them to three for mailing them to me and writing a nice letter. read more

I would never rent from this location. I went in here with my boyfriend because we saw the skis he had been wanting and researching for a while. We had seen a shorter version for much less at the outlets in Silverthorne. We weren't upset just made the statement to the salesman. The salesman (I wish we he got his name) was extremely rude and basically told us it's because rents higher up here and if we bought them for cheaper wed be doing a disservice to everyone. He went so far as to say we'd be putting Atomic out of business. He was so rude and all we wanted to do was peek in and look at some skis. read more

Only had one day to ski - so I called them at 7:30 pm to see if they could fit us for skis the night before. Everyone in the rental department was great. They were fast but very nice and helpful. The return was just as good. The manager was a great source of information and the girls in the shop were very helpful. Gregorio was extra nice to my daughter who is studying Spanish. I went here because I bought the Ski package from the Vail Ski and Snowboarding School. So I will say that the service was friendly when I was getting my rentals. Later on as I got up the mountain I found out that my ski boots were far too small. Seriously, my feet started tingling and then went numb. I had to cut my ski day short and that was very disappointing. When I went back to the shop to tell them about my feet, they were adamant that they had given me the correct size boot. So make sure you equipment fits before you get up on the mountain! read more

Boo! Worst customer service experience I've had coming to Vail in over 40 years! I bought my Salomon XMax-120 custom shell boots 2 weeks ago at an affiliate in Denver for $580 and they came with a boot fit guarantee. These are custom shell boots, meaning the shell can be heated, custom fit, then cooled to set the fit. The guarantee claimed that I could go to any affiliate, including Vail Sports/Ski Boot Fitters and adjust the fit as long as I had a receipt, which I did. The 1st day out on the boots revealed some issues. Granted, new boots need to be broken-in and "packed-out", but the discomfort I was experiencing was severe, even for new boots. I've been skiing for 45 years. I'm a Colorado local, and am an intermediate-advanced skier. When I was younger I was advanced. I take fewer risks now, but I am a good skier, hockey player, roller-blader, etc. I'm no stranger to performance footwear. I realize boot fitters face the challenge of the inexperienced customers complaining about boots hurting, but I've been in ski boot and hockey skates since I was in kindergarten. I'm not that guy that came to visit Vail for the first time and complained about the boots. I bought performance boots with a fit guarantee, and was denied the guarantee. I doubt the fitter Tony that helped me from SBF/Vail Sports can spell guarantee, because even after I explained my situation on the phone, set an appointment, and arrived with receipt in hand, he said he would need to charge me for the adjustment since he "didn't work for Vail Sports". Vail Sports is a documented affiliate of the store where I made the purchase. The store manager Clay disappeared during the discussion, even though he had been on the phone call earlier that day. Bottom line: Vail Sports/SBF were NOT going to honor the guarantee on the $580 dollar purchase I made and alerted them to on my 1st day on the slopes. I've reviewed the affiliate in Denver that sold me the boots, and their customer service was top-notch. Tony at SBF/Vail Sports on the other hand was quite disappointing. He wasn't rude, but was clearly not going to help me without "getting paid". He sent me away without helping me, and I'm glad he did. The Salomon store in Vail (reviewed here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/salomon-vail?hrid=9QigHh_T-xgYBw_KspOJDA) honored the guarantee, went above and beyond in getting my problem resolved, and even apologized for Vail SPorts/SBF's poor customer service. I own 2 properties in Vail, and in my 40+ years of visiting this town, that was without a doubt the most disappointing customer service experience I've had. The guy seriously wanted to charge me for something I already paid for. He was arrogant, dismissive, and not at all helpful. Save your time and money! don't expect Vail Sports/Ski Boot Fitters to honor your purchase guarantee! The Salomon store is WAY better, and pretty much resolved my fit issues in about 15 minutes, and more importantly, honored the guarantee and didn't charge me. We took a friend of a friend who was visiting from outside the states and obviously did not have her equipment. Upon getting into the store the staff appeared confused and lacked any sort of organization. We asked for a mid-level set-up as we didn't need anything special. Boots get put on and that was a cluster in itself, but finally got something that worked. Then they went off to put bindings on some skis and when they return telling us we are all set, we notice that the bindings are on backwards!!! Mind you this was not a twin-tip or symmetrical ski. Guy goes back, fixes it, and still charges full price. What a jip. read more

Rented mtn bikes to ride gondola for the day. Everyone was friendly but my bike seat post kept lowering by itself during my rides and beaus brakes squeeked a majority of time descending. Staff said they'd fix for next riders and apologized. Renting was quick and easy. read more

Before we came out to vail, I asked around for a recommendation for a boot fitter for one of my friends that was coming on the trip. Almost everyone Said the guys at SBF. She made a Rez with Chris and got new boots day one. After skiing on my boots ( which were only a little over a year old) for two days, I called Chris in a panic..my feet were in agony. We arranged to meet the next morning (which turned out to be his day off) . He worked with me on those boots for two days before I decided that it was a truly hopeless situation. He fit me for new boots that I actually wanted to put on my feet and ski in. It has never been easy for me to find ski boots as I have very challenging feet - but Chris was fantastic. The boot fitting team at SBF is the best !! read more

Great customer service! Not only did they help my family get out of our ski boots after long days on the mountain, but they also recommended a great snowboard for my boyfriend to demo and suggested another shop to check out when they didn't have the right size boots for my cousin. To top it all off, I've had issues with my ski boots for a couple of years, and the crew here was really invested in trying to help me solve them. After a couple of attempts at adjustments, Sid arranged for an appointment for me with the boot fitters upstairs. Chris did a great job explaining what was causing my issues and helped me get a new pair of boots that are comfortable and cozy. After my first day on the mountain in the new boots, the Vail Sports team celebrated with me when I said I skied pain-free. If you're looking for rentals, tune ups, new gear, or a convenient storage location, I can't recommend Vail Sports strongly enough. Sid, Connor, Deuce, Liam, and co are definitely invested in making your visit to Vail the best it can be. read more

The staff was so knowledgeable and accommodating. They made our first ski experience amazing. What could have been a hassle to rental all the gear was a pleasure. They exchanged and refitted ski boots as needed. They were friendly and warm and made so many great suggestions. Even encouraging to the kids who were nervous. Do not rent from Vail Sports. Lost our reservation three years in a row. Totally incompetent staff. Tried to charge $50 for a damaged ski two days after it was returned with no damage. They are the worst at Vail. The staff was friendly and apologetic but they are either poorly trained or have horrible systems. read more
