I came with my partner and her son to rent gear for their first experience skiing. I have to say,…read morethis place was terrible. I am not sure we are even writing for the correct place as it is "Vail Sports Kids Rentals." I am imagining it is however as the only other review was also one star. When we came in initially to get their equipment fitted (boots, helmets, etc...) the guy serving us, though he was sweet with our boy regarding Star Wars, it seemed he was way more interested in talking with his colleagues about a "chick night" in Breckenridge than figuring out what we actually needed. It took almost an hour to get the gear and we were literally the only people in the store (3pm on a Friday). Consequently, on the mountain (at the top of the gondola) our six year old kept walking out of his skis. The setting of the bindings could not even hold him in shuffling. I ended up tightening the bindings so he could actually practice being ON skis. My brother and I (both Vail natives, and both Vail ski instructors- though I am no longer working for the mountain) thankfully had the where with all to tighten them so that he would not get injured just walking. When we came to discuss this with the rental place at the end of the day, they argued with us and stated we had selected negative one as his skier type. I had selected the lowest skier type offered on the sign in and they stated that I had selected the type for children with special needs or ACL tears. When I inquired about where the "types" were posted, they stated that they were posted on the wall. Upon looking I realized that there was no descriptor for any "type negative one," just type one, two, and three. My guess is that if there is some discrepancy between the sign and the level that people sign up for there should be some "professional assessment" done to clarify. In addition the next morning the rental place also lost my partners rentals and searched for new skis for twenty minutes after which they had to set her up on new skis. So that was an additional bother. Really the error was an annoyance, especially considering the fact that in Lionshead with beginners you can't just hop down the mountain to get things remedied. That would require wasting your $100+ ticket. Mostly the rudeness, the arguing, and the lack of accountability was what made the experience terrible. Having worked for Vail for almost a decade in total, I know the quality of service that the resort expects. This place is certainly sub par in that regard. A quick way to repair would have been a simple apology or perhaps a discount or a comped storage bin. We will not be returning to this rental place. With so many to choose from, one would think you would strive to compete. We will go to double diamond. I should have trusted my initial instincts with that.

First class service for my family. I could not have been happier in the customer service and convenience of Vail Sports. We were treated like dignataries when we arrived to get our ski rentals. We had one problem where one of my children's bindings was a little loose and we went to another location on mountain and they fixed the issue within minutes. We also got a free lunch everyday that we rented. I highly recommend Vail Sports if you are looking for excellent service and convenience anywhere on Vail mountain. I made my reservation online and paid for the equipment in advance. They have a variety of equipment options, I chose the performance ski package, but wasn't quite sure of the difference between packages other than price. The store was located in a strip mall and upon entering looked like a typical sporting goods store. When you make your way to the back of the store they have all the ski equipment. I was asked if I had a reservation which I provided my email. First, you walk up the steps on a platform where an employee measured my foot to determine ski boot size. When I tried the ski boots on, they were small so they gave me a larger size for comfort. Next step is to wait in line to pick up your skis and poles. The employee at the counter calls you in the order of boot measurement. This process was a bit time consuming and took approx an hour before it was my turn. They input information into a system and ask you some questions about how you ski, fast, experienced, beginner, etc and help you pick out the correct ski brand and length. My boots were very dirty and well used, but they did the job. The employee makes some adjustment to the skis to make sure your boots fit. The XX skis that I received performed well and I did not have any issues. Check in if the equipment was much more efficient and they just scanned a barcode on the equipment when we returned it and we left it in a pile and were good to go. Overall, I think you get what you pay for and this store offers functional ski equipment at a reasonable price. I do wish the process of getting the equipment had been a bit more efficient. The employees were very friendly and helped to make this equipment rental experience go smoothly.

When we arrived, there was only one employee working (Mike) and another group ahead of us, so we waited about 15 minutes before the rental process could begin. Once we were helped, we were informed that the small bike we had reserved was unavailable. Mike then spent roughly 30 minutes trying to repair another small bike in the back. After he brought it out, we did a test ride in the parking lot, but the bike immediately displayed an error code. We were then told it would not provide any pedal-assist power. At that point, we gave up on getting a working bike from Breckenridge Ski & Sport and went across the street to another rental shop. Remarkably, they had a properly sized bike ready for us almost immediately. Once we got on the trail, the three bikes rented from Breckenridge Ski & Sport all felt noticeably underpowered compared to the bike from the other shop, which easily outperformed them throughout the ride. The online reservation process was straightforward, but the experience at the store was frustrating and disappointing. Reserving specific bike sizes weeks in advance should ensure those bikes are available and in working condition when customers arrive.
