I felt so guilty even riding the sleigh with how miserable the horses were, but another person in our group had purchased all the tickets in advance as a treat for everyone The "trail" was complete mud and rocks and the horses were working so hard they had to stop and rest every few minutes - Thankfully, they allowed them to rest, but they should not have even been operating in those conditions! The ride was painfully rough. Absolutely not worth the $50 per person! Everything was dirty slush by mid-March, but the trail is more of a track, no wooded area, not really any views. The horses were absolutely miserable - dragging a loaded sleigh thru icey, muddy riches. They have a small paddock - I wouldn't even call it a pasture. And no shelter - Yes, these horses are content to stay outdoors 99.9% of the time, but they should have an optional covered area available at least.

But now, in reflection these questions were unfounded. BMR is a GREAT experience and fantastic way to get close to the majestic outdoors of Colorado. Most of all a week of understanding and playing the role of a cowboy...priceless. The crew of wranglers takes care to make sure you have a great time, the entire kitchen/dining staff provides all the awesome food for the week, housekeeping is on the spot and above all the service levels provided to guests is 100% focused and quality. Cattle Drive, do it!!!…read more I've always wanted to do something a little more than a trail ride, not following head to butt in a line and the cattle drive is the perfect excursion. They make sure you are comfortable on the horse, give you tips and clear instructions on what to do. As long as you are in control, you definitely have the freedom to navigate and ride along as you want. We herded up cattle and moved them all towards the watering area and then back out to the feeding area. I loved the freedom to make my own choices with the horse and go as slow or fast as I wanted, there was definitely some trotting! Our guides were awesome, the horses were great. I had the best time and highly recommend if you're looking for an out of the box horseback riding experience! (Bring lots of bug spray, the mosquitoes were out!)

E.g. one specifically liked playing in water, one really liked the cow's molasses in buckets nearby, some had a little bit more sass than the others, etc. The little tidbits that she gave for each horse was a clear indication that the staff & owners cared for and loved these horses - this is enough for any animal lover to want to support this business. It also made it easier to connect with and understand our horses to make the experience more enjoyable. HCT was otherwise fairly priced & reasonably understanding if customers are running late. The trails were beautiful and unique. The dogs running along with us were entertaining. I couldn't have asked for a better time! Note: They have a little outhouse on the side, but unless you're ok with those, be sure to use the bathroom before!
