Living in Allentown we had high hopes that Tilly's Mint Tea Room would satisfy our high tea appetite. While we are not aficionados by any stretch we have had the authentic experience in London some years back and several tea rooms stateside. Good news everyone! Service is super friendly and the ambiance is subdued and appealing. The food was delicious. As a starter we had a choice of blueberry soup chilled or an open face ricotta and fire roasted corn sandwich accompanied by fresh mixed greens and apple salad. The savory tier features various finger sandwiches of tuna, cream cheese and cucumber. The scones were delightful especially with homemade lemon curd. The top tier included Princess Diana crème brûlée, peanut butter mousse, macaroons and shark week themed mini cupcakes. read more

Delightful!! That's the first word that comes to mind. Trish & Jenny and their staff create the very best tea experience this side of the Atlantic!! From homemade soups to the homemade scones and lemon curd, clotted cream and the desserts... Sooooo delicious!!! And the teas - well there must be 100 different teas to choose from! All served in individual tea pots - all unique china pieces and patterns. And it's the way the lunch tea is presented and served ... with such grace and great care. There isn't a parking lot so you'll have to park on the street. My only complaint is that the bathroom wasn't working and we had to go next door to use the restroom which they said was temporary. read more

I know I've said this before but this is my new favorite tea room! I have been trying to visit this tea room for quite some time. The challenge is that it books up fast so you definitely need a reservation. Expect to reserve about two weeks prior to your visit. The tea room is small but was festively decorated for the Christmas season including holiday serving plates and cups. I loved everything about my tea experience...from the personalized note at my table to the tasty bites served with my tea. Since it was the holiday season, I chose to have one of the special holiday teas...Figgy Pudding Green tea. The name really does not do the tea justice. It was similar to an Earl Grey in flavor and went really well with the full tea sampler. In addition to the tea specials, Tilly Mint has a huge tea list. Something for every type of tea drinker...including children. I chose to do the full tea which included your choice of soup or quiche and the tiered tea sandwich sampler. This was $25 and did include a pot of tea. I ended up having a second pot of tea which did not cost me extra :). You can see the attention to detail when you view the tiered sampler...from the lady bug tea sandwich, to the mini tea cup condiment holders, to the mousse ice cream cone dessert...all is designed to be visually appealing to the customer and fun. The service was prompt with friendly, courteous servers. I would recommend this tea room to anyone who loves a proper British tea. (Side note: Thank you Tilly Mint for not leaving the tea leaves in the pot of tea. Leaving the leaves makes for a bitter cup of tea. Others should follow you fine example!) read more

They have so many teas to choose from it's so hard to pick! I recommend making reservations a month or more in advance because they fill up quick. If you want to go to a very nice and very tasty British Tea House; then this is your place. We enjoyed a early Mother's Day tea with the family. The kids had their own little cups with pink lemonade which they loved! We tried 4 different teas: the almond tea, the cream brûlée tea, the Queen Elisabeth tea, and the Royal Wedding tea. The Scones are so sweet and fresh, We bought some to take home. Everything was delicious! The wait staff was very friendly. The only thing is since the place is small I would recommend a reservation. What a unique and fun experience! I had no idea what to expect when going here nor did I have any clue that tea rooms are a thing. Note to self: tea rooms are totally a thing. When I first walked in the door all I could do was look around the room and think how adorable and quaint it was... I felt like I had just walked into a place in England. It was super cozy and made you feel right at home. The staff was wonderful and friendly through our whole visit. We had a nice table right by the window and there were 6 of us total - 5 adults and one toddler. I mentioned to our server that I had never been to anything like this before and she was happy to explain how it all worked. Oh man and then I had to select a tea?? They had no less than like 80 billion teas and they all sounded amazing! How are you supposed to pick?? I ended up getting the black currant which was very good. Everyone else in the party enjoyed their teas, even the baby! I ended up getting the Liverpool which was the soup, salad, and savory (which was a quiche today). The baby had the kid's meal which uhhhh looked amazing, I wanted her sundae! Everyone else got the full tea. Trying to be good with my diet so that's why I stayed away from the sammiches and sweets. Ok back to my Liverpool. The soup was cream of mushroom and it was freaking delicious! It was perfect to warm me up on this suddenly cold day! The salad was fresh and dressed nicely with accents of fruit throughout. I forget what the quiche was exactly but it was a great complement to the soup and salad. I'm glad I went with the smaller meal because I was stuffed with just that! Everyone else also enjoyed their soups/salads/quiches and then the main course came out and it was so beautiful! Everything sounded delicious and trust me, I was kicking myself for not gorging and getting one as well. But I did steal a little piece of one of the chicken salad sammiches and that was super yummy. Everyone else was extremely stuffed and didn't finish the goodies so I guess I was the smart one going light :) The bathroom, or loo rather, was adorable as well and so was the shop! We had fun checking out all the various teapots for sale. It was a lovely day with family and friends trying something new for me. WHAT!? A real tea room in little old Souderton!? Color me surprised! The tea selection is huge and the quality is there. Thank goodness I was browsing the restaurants in the area on google maps during my visit b/c I lived in that area for many years and always think there is just NOTHING for me there. I'm kicking myself for not finding out about this tea room sooner! It has been there for FOURTEEN YEARS! WOW! So they absolutely deserve 5 stars - the service was warm and friendly, the atmosphere was kitschy and cute, the tea was EXCELLENT and the food was good. We got the full tea service - which was very reasonably priced at $25 each. We were most impressed by the unlikely savory item of the day - the mac and cheese. It was something special! Absolutely from scratch and very unique. My mom enjoyed all the sandwiches and I was all about the scones. The dessert part of the tea service looked super cute! They take a lot of care in presentation and I loved it! Don't forget the TEA SHOP/ GIFT SHOP area of Tilly Mint's! Tea enthusiasts, stop in JUST to shop the teas! Visited randomly as an excursion. This along with the ice cream store across the street and the art gallery on the corner seem to be the very few reasons to visit Souderton, so don't expect to make an effective afternoon of dropping in for high tea service, and hanging out in town after. You need reservations since there's about 6-8 tables and tea time is at a very leisurely pace. The decor is about what one could expect in a suburban PA, struggling Main Street town. The decor is best described as my grandmother's living room. Chachkies everywhere to create the strong feel of British and tea time culture. It's kitschy for sure. The most expensive option is the $21 full tea experience. You get a savory item and a salad, 4-5 tea time sandwiches, 2 scones with jams, a bunch of random sweets and a pot of tea. I generally understand that the point of high tea is the sweets, but I really would have preferred an ala carte option. I'm watching what I eat and all I wanted is the savory item, salad and sandwiches without loading up on sugar. I really didn't care to imbibe in the scones and sweets and unfortunately there was no way to assemble exactly what I wanted or substitute. Yes I asked the waitress. Wasn't 100% pleased about the lack of flexibility at my expense, but ok. The things that I did eat were very good...The salad was good, enjoyed the potato crust quiche, and all of the tea time sandwiches were fresh and tasty. I tried some of the random sweets since otherwise they'd just get tossed and they were ok. Some a lot better than others. Would I come back? Yeah maybe. Souderton is a bit of "nowheresville" and the offering here is too inflexible. I'd definitely recommend this spot to anyone who was in the area already and wanted to experience a novelty. It's also a fun date idea or a good way to spend time with relatives, maybe even a girl's afternoon or something like that. The experience itself, when you consider it for what it is, was very well executed and assembled. Service was pretty good and on pace the entire time, with the minor exception that we had some difficulty​ flagging down the server on one occasion. I definitely felt relaxed pace and privacy to engage in my own experience without being awfully bothered which is the experience that they set out to achieve and describe in their menu/website. I got my mom a gift certificate for Mother's Day and we finally got a chance to use it this weekend. We like to try out different tea rooms around the area and this one looked so cute! Definitely make a reservation beforehand - I called a few days in advance and there was only one opening. From start to finish this experience felt comfortable and homey (I thought the welcome card on the table was a lovely touch!). You can tell that great time and dedication goes in on Trish's part and the other people working there. Everything tasted amazing and you can tell it was homemade with love. The passion Trish has for her tea room is palpable. The teas and all the food was so flavorful and abundant. This place was just much more unique than other tea rooms I've been too - the bathroom was adorably decorated, the red telephone booth, the teapots were so fun! The full tea was good. The presentation was lovely. The tea sandwiches and the quiche were very good. However, I was disappointed in the desserts. The mint mousse tasted strange. It should have been strawberry or chocolate and I would have liked it. Also, the creme brûlée did not taste like creme brûlée. This was a great experience! I'm so glad we rescheduled after Tilly had pneumonia during the holidays. They were busy but our hostess Lee Anne was amazing! The interior is beautiful and the tables are nicely decorated. They had the menus in cute photo flip books. We ordered the full tea and the smaller tea. We tried the Royal Wedding and Queen Elizabeth teas which were great. The full tea came with a soup or savory with salad (Carrot Apple Ginger Soup or Asparagus Tomato Potato Quiche), sandwiches, scones, and sweets. The soup came in a tea cup and was delicious and was not overly flavored with ginger. The sandwiches, scones, and sweets came on a 3-tier tray. Sandwiches were modified for us due to allergies and they took this very seriously. Sandwiches included, turkey, ham, cucumber, caprese, and a lady bug sandwich! Scones included 2 apple cinnamon pieces with cream, lemon curd, and strawberry jam. By the time we reached the desserts, I was getting quite full. Desserts included a hazelnut brownie, raspberry mousse (very cutely placed in small kid-sized ice cream cups), creme brûlée, fruit, and lady fingers. The tea room smartly put a place holder for each group on the table- we knew another group was coming in after us without Lee Anne having to tell us. We had plenty of time to enjoy ourselves. On the day we had tea, we were asked to sign a card to send to the Queen to congratulate her on her Diamond Jubilee - my kids thought this was great...sending a card to the Queen! I have been here a few times and all have been wonderful! On our visits we always end up chatting with the very friendly staff, including the owner. The food is delicious and we always leave stuffed! The tea is wonderful! So many choices and we've never had a tea that we weren't completely satisfied with! They also have an adorable gift shop where you can purchase the different teas they offer as well as various tea pots and nick nacks. This really is a pleasant, reasonably priced, suburban alternative to the high-end tea salons in Philadelphia's Center City hotels. Our hostess and server were gracious, professional and prompt. The presentation was lovely and traditional with exquisite china service, along with lace and cloth linens. Even the whimsical touch of having a different china set for each of us, lent to the charm of this place. The homemade tea sandwiches and pastries were delicious and artfully created. My only suggestions in order to keep their steady stream of customers would be as follows: Instead of the china porcelain flowers (beautiful Coalport), try a little vase arrangement of fresh flowers on each table. This will be especially important in the winter months when people have their greatest need to "de-stress" with natural beauty. Also, in appreciating the owner's need to maintain a healthy profit margin, the size of the individual sandwiches and pastries was still about half of that served at other tea rooms.( It was especially noticeable when two of us were sharing a half-tablespoon of clotted cream for our scones.) With the superb-tasting tea blends offered, there should be a way for the tea to be served hot, instead of lukewarm and slightly weak. Our conscientious server kept asking if we wanted a fresh pot (lukewarm, again) when other establishments will give you the tea-filled cup basket and a pot of boiling water, which eliminates this problem. Paying your check at the lovely gift shop is a smart idea, since it is filled with a marvelous collection of teapots and accessories. While we didn't purchase anything, I hope that they offer custom gift boxes. What better way to advertise such a fine operation in which they understand the art of traditional tea!
