Food was delicious and I appreciated how kind they were to my 13-year-old who bases her experience on people's kindness.

That tip alone alerts you to the fact that Taiko Bistro and its neighbor are closely related. In fact, they are family; owned by the same people, and put in place after the success of House of Pho led to expansion to cover the bubble tea explosion around the country. They share a kitchen, while House handles traditional Vietnamese fare and Taiko addresses the taste for Asian snacks and tapioca ball drinks. Following directions, I walked into the elder to order Roast Pork Banh Mi, Ribeye Pho and a Mango Smoothie "to go." I returned to my car for the suggested 20 minute wait, as the business wasn't really set up for in house dining. Ten minutes later, the manager/owner/cashier was coming over to my vehicle with a nearly wrapped package. I opened my door to accept the bag and thank her for going the extra mile to find me when everything was ready, rather than waiting for me to re-enter ten minutes later. That kind of courtesy is memorable. The Banh Mi was excellent. Tasty load of thin sliced roast pork with pleasant hoisin flavor, daikon, carrot, cilantro in a fresh demi baguette. Liked it a lot. I assembled the Pho in a large bowl while it was still warm, but with the large next of noodles, generous beef and desire to add copious sprouts and Thai basil, I chose to microwave the broth to better cook everything else and bring the dish back to optimum. It was still good; the taste was there, but there was no doubt it had lost something in transportation. The Mango Smoothie was more a slurpie, with too much freeze and little smooth. It was clearly made from a mix without a hint of fruit pulp. Disappointing. Maybe bubble tea was the way to go. Lesson learned. Banh Mi travels well, and Pho can be resurrected by focuses reheating at home, but a poorly conceived smoothie is impossible to revive. 3.5 STARS

Bubble tea comes in two different sizes with all sorts of flavors and combinations. I've tried other items on the menu as well and they never disappoint. This place has become my guilty pleasure for years and I will continue to order from time to time because of the great customer service and amazing food! We went during Ambler's restaurant week and had a stand-out meal with peach gazpacho, chicken and strawberry salad, pulled pork hand pie and ratatouille quiche. All was amazing... but we can't forget the pie. My husband had a blueberry crumble and the peach Bellini pie was one of the best I've had. Service was warm and friendly. It was fairly empty, but I'm assuming it's because they only recently extended their hours to 7pm on weekends for the early dinner crowd. I'd love it if they would further extend dinner hours and market themselves as a dinner option. The larger restaurants on Butler Ave get packed on the weekends, this would be a great option for a nice casual meal. They are BYO so bring your wine.

We made a good one. We were greeted warmly at this corner store with street parking and the place was empty of customers when we arrived. The front displays of available homemade pies were inviting. They also had a mini-fridge of drinks like Snapple and Poppy and some others. But the Cafe also has all types of coffee and some breakfast and lunch items. My wife ordered an egg on croissant with a side of fruit. She also ordered a latte. I went with the chicken pot pie with a side salad. I didn't catch that the pot pie was actually a hand-pie (kind of like an empanada) but it is listed on the menu. Both the croissant and hand-pie crusts were excellent. Buttery and flaky. My chicken pot pie did not have much chicken, but did have flavor. There were nice spices like thyme in there. Definitely you can taste the homemade in there. My salad had micrograms and very fresh grape tomatoes and cucumbers. The side fruit was fresh and crunchy in small pieces. The place seats a couple of dozen people and had quite comfortable cloth seats. We decided to get a whole pie to go home with us and chose the key lime. Wow. Tangy and tart with the sweet graham cracker crust and whip cream. Loved it. The pie was just under $40 and the food about the same. I don't remember specifically this time. Pie and Plate Cafe is a winner with homemade scratch made food and nice coffees. The pies were excellent.

Driving by simply delicious many times on York Rd. I have been curious. Today was the day curiosity finally killed the cat literally and figuratively. When you don't hear anyone talking about an establishment locally, that should tell you something - when I asked others about simply delicious. No one had even heard of it. Come to find out it's been an existence for quite some time. What is basically a glorified coffee shop simply delicious yarns to be a posh café/bakery. In reality it leaves a lot to be desired. From the moment we walked into the unfriendly faces. The semi tableservice, (order at counter and they bring it to you) the overpriced food, and the coffee/tea served in paper cups. This is definitely not a sit down place. More of a grab and go type of joint. The hungry man sandwich was served on brioche "toast" that was dry crumbling, and not at all sufficient to handle the weight of the sandwich. The sandwich itself was assembled haphazardly and lacked any real cohesion in both flavor and texture. The platter special consisted of French toast bacon sausage patties (house made) and eggs your way. Mine were scrambled and were decent enough. The bacon seemed high quality but could have cooked a bit longer. The house made sausage patties were overcooked and tough with more spice than I would have desired. The French toast was well soaked in the egg mixture and more than enough for a serving. Probably ranking high on the list of French toast I've had. However, I don't believe it is a staple of the menu. It was a special of the day. I would only really recommend simply delicious when the yearning for a good scone comes around. Either that if looking for a quiet place to sit and chat with an old friend over a scone and coffee - there isn't much of a crowd so it would be the perfect place to catch up. As for me, and he, not likely to return. Far too many other options locally, that have better ambience, food, prices, and most importantly people who are happy to see you and make you feel welcome.
