The artwork around the place is stunning as well, mostly local Gawler artists. We only had time for a quick coffee today but I took a photo of the menu so that we can go back and we will 100% be back. While we were having our coffee the owner came out for a chat. Lovely woman who was so friendly and made us feel welcome. There are vegetarian and vegan options and all the cakes are gluten free (including a lemon myrtle and ginger cheesecake YUM) I cannot wait to come back and try the Quinoa salad! This is a new hidden gem in Gawler and I highly recommend it - we will be back.

Externally the Cafe had quaint intimate tables on the street front with lightly scented candles, artwork adorned the external walls. It was a visual and aromatic treat before I even walked in the door. It was my birthday and I am not one for a big fuss, my partner joined me this evening. Now for the FOOD. WOW, I admit, I am a picky gay guy, having not been too well this previous year I am now particularly fussy. For starters we shared a bread plate that was flavorsome yet not overpowering. Mains, I opted for the Apple Crumble Chicken OMG. For someone who normally has a few mouth fulls and is done, this mains dish made me crave more, it was a mixture of one of mum's awesome home-made dinners with a burst of flavor in every mouth-full, it hooked me in from the start and i just had to have more and more. I have truly not had a dish like this for years. The serving size was perfect, it was one of those meals where you sit down afterwards and memories just come flooding back, a true culinary experience. Please Please Please do yourself a favor, order it. My partner had the Barramundi and he said it was just perfect. The hosts were so kind, it was true service from the heart and the artwork in side was a visual delight. I hope you enjoy this hidden gem as much as we did, sure to return.

We didnt have s booking so they sat us on a random table in the walkway with none of the table settings or cutlery etc, later they moved us to a nicer table. The staff were lovely and friendly (one of the reasons they get two stars) I was a bit disappointed that of the two soups of the day neither were vegetarian. So I opted for the one vegetarian main meal of lentil patty. Hubby of course had the chicken schnitzel. Now, we could not talk to each other and the baby was going nuts because it was just so loud in there. When our food did come my blood pressure was so high from all the noise I gulped it down! We were forgotten about and given no bread with our meals which was a real dampener and hubby's schnitzel came with a free hair. Good points - Friendly staff Food was worth what you pay Bad points - No bread NOISE!!!! Hair in food Terrible car park Vegetarian options limited ESP if gluten free. Had we been able to relax and enjoy the meal it probably wasn't so bad as it was I barely tasted it because I had to take the baby out of there.

We've been here a few times for lunch and dinner, and it never disappoints! Yesterday we came here for coffee and cake, which was amazing ;) The menu is chock full of gluten free and vegetarian options - and they are fantastic choices, not just 'token' menu items (the vegetarian lasagne is to die for!). Their kids meals are great too, since they are all served with mash potato instead of the usual fries, making them a much healthier choice. There is a vast array of interesting desserts on offer too - yesterday I had the chocolate and orange cake, which included an array of nuts and seeds, and my partner had the sticky date pudding (possibly the best I've ever tasted!). They sell amazing protein balls too, which look incredible - I'm looking forward to coming back and having one next time ;) Nice wholesome food, which makes you feel like you are making a healthier choice! The setting is like an old-fashioned summerhouse - very charming and relaxing. Service isn't super-quick - they need extra staff during busier periods. I would have given them 5 stars, but their opening hours are a bit limiting (we usually dine out on Sunday nights), and they aren't opening on Saturday nights "at the moment" either (not sure if this will change in the near future?). Gawler Street in Port Noarlunga has become a bit of a foodie haunt - so while you're here, make sure you pop in to The Fleurieu Pantry!

The Fleurieu Pantry is part of the Eat Local South Australia movement, supporting local produce. They also support all different types of dietary requirements, including gluten free, vegan, raw and paleo. Once you make your way through the entry door at the end of the alley, the cafe opens out and up. It almost feels like a garden party at your eclectic aunt's house. It feels fun and buzzes with chatter and energy. Table service is friendly and attentive but not at all intrusive. As well as a menu of regular favourites, there is always a substantial specials menu. Vegan and gluten free options are well marked. The smoothies and juices come served in mason jars with handles and wide straws. The serve is large enough to have you sipping before, during and after your meal. Local favourite Goodiesons Beers are also available, as well as organic wine from Battle of Bosworth. The wait for meals is under ten minutes, even when it is very busy. To pass the time there are cookbooks to browse or card games on the tables to keep you entertained. Mr Wino's green curry looked really impressive, with fat, fresh prawns (tails on) and a mixture of black & basmati rice. The sauce was flavoursome with Thai basil, a hint of chilli and lime juice and the veggies still had bite. The Veggie Slice special was a frittata of sweet potato & zuchinni plus black rice. It was a large serve and tasty napped with a generous portion of basil sauce. The side salad was napped with tasty balsamic dressing and a crunchy seed & pepita mix. The choc-orange cheesecake is raw and vegan and totally delightful. A date & nut base gives way to a so smooth chocolatey interior and a rich choc-orange ganache scattered with cocoa nibs. Each time I have dined at The Fleurieu Pantry I have been impressed by it's garden party atmosphere, table service, luxe handwash & cream in the bathroom, eat local / low waste philosophy, vegan options and secret hidey-hole access way. There's a lot to love here.

Omg this place is the absolute bomb!!!…read more This is my new favourite cafe .. I'm Veggo/vegan and this place is - by a mile - clearly for me - the best tasting vegan food I have ever tasted!!! They say 'At Salem we make all of our meats, cheeses and sauces in-house. We smoke, grill, and slow roast our plant-based menu to give it deep flavours and good fortune.' I say - well done guys you've got this soooo friggin right!!! So far I have only tried there tofu scrambled and their BLT sandwiches ( on their specials board this week) but as I only heard about this cafe last week - I'm already addicted!! This has to be the best vegan cafe in Adelaide by a long shot - in fact the best that I've been to anywhere in a very lonnnng time!! There's something about the way these girls do it - (it might be the booze) that it just tastes sooooo good.. so good in fact I couldn't and still can't believe it's all plant based food!! I actually had to ask them just to make sure.. They have a range of homemade sandwiches, juices, hot drinks, iced drinks and deserts .. and I noticed a coming soon beer cider & more I haven't got to the desert menu yet but their ice chocolate was incredible!! Annnnd look out Adelaide people - they do Uber eats too!! What more could you ask for!! The cafe has a really cool friendly relaxed vibe, I heard a sweet little voice say hi there when I walked through the front door ( Having no idea where it came from took me by surprise - but realised it was the chef in the kitchen greeting me ) The girls working that day were lovely and helpful. They apologised for the wait (but there was no need - as there really wasn't one) it was maybe a 10mins max from the time I ordered to getting my food (a BLT sandwich and an iced tea).. they had 3 groups come in and two Uber orders on the go - so they were doing well!! The only issues I can see them having here are actually all PROs for them 1. They will run out their delicious food way too quickly - it takes 8-12hours for them to cook the 'meats' so once the hordes of vegan peeps cotton on to this place - it will be GAME on for young & old veggos when doors open at 9am each day!! 2. They will run out of seating too quickly - the dining room has one large table to seats maybe 8-10 people & then a few two seaters & a couple of waiting benches.. the sewing shop next door that has been relatively quiet for the last 50 Years - might get some referred business from the peeps waiting for a seat and then choosing take away!! 3. There won't be enough Uber drivers in Adelaide to deliver this hot stuff around town - more importantly to my joint!! 4. I potentially will miss out on my favourite dishes and regret ever writing this review!! My work here is done - if I never write another review you will find me in Salem cafe in a bath full of ice chocolate - eating my way through every single menu item from 9am Thursday's through Sundays.. But honestly do yourself a favour - even if your not veggo - give this place a crack it'll be worth it & it might just open your mind to how great some of this food can be.. Peace

We showed up early, there were four other tables, but they were doing a reasonable takeaway trade. It took us an hour to get our food - other tables were also delayed, and not happy about it. When we did get our food, it was awful. The frying oil must have been too cold because anything deep-fried was soggy. The lemon sauce for the lemon chicken tasted like it came from a jar - the bottom of the jar. The sambal prawns had nice prawns, but the sauce tasted like it hadn't simmered long enough. The noodle dish barely had any noodles (it was if they ran out). Neither of the servers checked to see if we had enjoyed our food, nor during our hour-long wait did they apologise or explain the delay. I brought the lemon chicken up to show we had only had one mouthful and that we weren't going to pay for it. The chef was loudly dismissive, and the servers didn't apologise, but they did take it off our bill after making us wait while they added things up by hand (their systems are as tired and dated as their décor - I appreciate kitsch, but things were tired and paint was peeling).

But when you are a veg*an, or keen on local or organic produce, your night off options are usually non-existent or too expensive. What luck then to have a treasure like home based catering business Studio Voodoo so close to home in paradise at Port Willunga. Anna & Matt from Studio Voodoo have a weekly 'foodie Friday' club, with a new menu released early each week on Facebook & via SMS. Orders are then taken via Facebook or SMS, and you then pick up your goodies on a Friday evening between 4pm and 8pm from their gorgeous eco-friendly house. Meals are served on crockery and trays which you return (washed of course!) for re-use so that Studio Voodoo is no waste. The food is all made from local, organic produce and is 100% vegan. There is often a raw dish or two, and gluten free options are clearly marked. Sometimes there is a weekly theme, and other weeks it is a round up of past favourites or new creations. The menus are so tempting, making a choice can be really hard - so there is also a weekly "Share Plate" with small portions of most of the things on the weekly menu, plus extras, enough to feed two people for $30. The share plates always feature freshly home baked Turkish bread sprinkled with sesame, or garlic Turkish. The delicious beetroot hommus also makes regular appearances, perfect for dunking the Turkish bread into! All of the salads are fresh, crunchy and flavoursome. The signature salad has herb, spinach & rocket mix with roast pumpkin, pomegranate, pecans, dates and delicious savoury chickpeas, with dressing on the side for you to add. Studio Voodoo always keep experimenting and coming up with tempting new dishes, like too-cute vegan sliders that came with one of the share plates in January. Also popular are the home made pastas. Stuffed with an ever changing array of house made flavours, including vegan cheese and artichoke with rocket pesto, pistachio and olive tapenade. Now that Autumn is here, abundant root veggies and figs find their way into the menu. Last week the share plate featured a fresh fig & pistachio salad, mushroom pate (with agar jelly!), zuchinni fritters with saffron aoli, bejeweled Mexican rice, and a cheesy artichoke tart with artichoke & pumpkin, plus cute edible flower decoration. The chocolate & beetroot cake with choc-cardamon ganache was particularly delicious and a steal at $8 with plenty for two sweet tooths to enjoy. When they are offered, grab some of the choc-maple ice cream cookie sandwiches too! For more drool inducing pictures and menus check out their Facebook page.
