decided to revisit bamboo hut bistro tonight, people say food reflects culture, so it is nice to reconnect with something chinese/asian which i grew up with and I'm more familiar with. everytime we went there, the waitress was a new face. last time, it was a japanese girl, this time an aussie girl. service was good. the drink and food came without taking too long - this was actually a surprise factor for this visit. we ordered roasted duck in red curry sauce which was a special dish from on-the-wall promo sign for about $22 and a thai lemongrass beef for about 15. both flavours were good, the portion was ok, not very generous, especially the duck dish having only a few slices in it. the only thing that may be a bit of let down was how they charged the rice. they used to have a pot of rice for 2 or more people at a reasonable price. this time, the waitress said no matter how many people at a table, it is charged per bowl. the bowl was tiny. She then added "yes, we can do a pot for you if you want more rice but you need to let me know how many bowls of rice you want to be in the pot". this just sounds a bit funny to me and a bit difficult to comprehend as none of asian restaurants that i went to before charged rice this way. eventually, a pot of rice equivalent to 3 small bowls of simple steamed rice was $12. apparently, if we ordered it in 3 separate bowls, it would be $4 each. one lucky thing about tonite - no surcharge as we prepared cash which was like tap and go, easy peasy without any drama! read more
