    Burrito and chips.
    Chris K.

Several days a week they have a special each day. On Thursday they have a burrito, chips and a drink for $7.99. I ordered a beef burrito. When it arrived I was shocked at how massive it was!! I ordered beef, but got chicken. I also ordered the cilantro rice, but got the other choice so all around they gave me the opposite of everything I asked for. Oh, well. You can also get the burrito as a bowl instead of the tortilla. I might do that next time, but no problem, I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Unfortunately, the chips are super salty and even tho they have a ton of sauces most are pretty hot. I appreciate that they bring the food to the table and clear it afterwards, so between that and the food prep, a tip is warrented.

I've eaten here once or twice and most recently met a friend for lunch here. Ordering is fine but it kind of took longer than I expected to have our food brought to us. Prices were reasonable and portions were good but the food is just okay -- nothing special. Staff were very nice and offered to refill our drinks. If I'm in the area, I might be back but this would not necessarily be my first choice for Mexican food in the area.

First time at this eatery. Based on the menu and prices, a meal here is about the same as Taco Bell, but the food is way better. We were a trio and after carefully considering the menu, we all decided to get the same thing - a lime shrimp bowl. Each of us thought it was absolutely delicious! The stand where you could pour your own sauce was super interesting, so we definitely tried it out. Bottom line, no more Taco Bell. We shall return here instead.

Update June 2025: How sad. This place used to be a good place for a quick bite. It has gone downhill. The staff doesn't offer refills, is always in their phones, the food was never that amazing, but it was decent. The biggest annoyance is the menu is constantly changing for the worst.

I noticed there are a few Tex-Mex restaurants in the area, but Tijuana Flats is a hidden gem. The food is fresh and delicious and made to order. If you like spicy, they have plenty of spice that you may flavor. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and eager to offer suggestions for those who are not familiar with their menu and the levels of hot sauces they offer. It's a very chill atmosphere, they didn't have any music playing, but they had TVs. to watch while you eat. I had a great culinary experience at Tinuans Flats, if you're ever in Cary, NC check them out!

Tijuana Flats is located in Cary in a Harris Teeter Shopping Center so that means plenty of parking. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside of the restaurant is very colorful and I loved all of the messages on the walls. I came here for a Yelp Event but got a shrimp bowl to go. I was very impressed with the service here as my name was remembered from my first order. Then when i was asked what ingredients I didn't want on it, I forgot to exclude an item but I did notice that she excluded it for me as she remembered from earlier. The place was hopping so I found that very impressive that she remembered. I really loved the shrimp bowl. I ate it cold as I didn't want to reheat some of the ingredients but it was delicious with all the flavors. I will return and have the dish as it was intended to be eaten warm.

Came here as part of a Yelp promotion and I'm pretty happy I did. Brought a plus one and split the steak flautas and chicken flautas that were featured for this event. The quantity was large and came with a good amount of condiments complimentary like guac, pico, Queso, and the self-serve hot sauce bar. The food was decent. The chips and hot sauce bar were the highlights. I enjoyed the food but it didn't blow me away or anything. Def worth checking out as a change up from the usual moes/chipotle. They also have specials on some days that make it even more worth it. Unfortunately, I didn't take photos of them but they're probably listed on their website if you're interested.

I attended a Yelp Elite event with a friend at this location. I enjoyed the colorful and warm atmosphere, plus the music is entertaining (keep the playlist on rotation please). Take a moment to look at the ceiling tiles when you visit Tijuana Flats. The creatively designed tiles add personality to the location. The Elite event included two flautas, two drinks and an appetizer. The flautas here are tasty and filling. The entree came with pico, sour cream, guacamole, queso and tortilla chips. My personal favorite is the queso. It is slappin'! The customer service staff answered all of our questions, and were friendly. I will be back to try out the 2 for $20 Saturday special!

What a great place! The food is tasty the people are so friendly! When you enter you place your order i got the chicken flautas with chips and a lemonade. The girl working the counter was super friendly took my order gave me my lemonade and I had a seat inside. Plenty of seating in and out. A few minutes later my food was brought on a tray with napkins and utensils. I went to the sauce bar and ate my delicious chicken flautas.

Great customer service! I loved the deal on the drinks for the weekend. $3 drafts! The steak bowl had was really good and the lettuce was very fresh. I had avocado dressing with my chips and it was very fresh and amazing. I really enjoyed the music that was playing and had a great time with my friends here. I would recommend this place!

Service was quick, and the plates and food were hot. It was a busy family Friday night. So, everything was fine. I have lived in NC for 15 years now, and my Texas taste buds for hot foods are cooling way down. I use to think Chuy's was mild, but now everything is warm spice wise. Not, overpowering just a lot more spicery than I remember. This not a criticism of Chuy's just that my taste buds have changed. A problem of aging again. My granddaughter ate her tacos and my wife says her green chili chicken enchiladas were delicious. I enjoyed my dinner.

We were seated without a reservation on a busy Saturday night, and the hostess was kind and really intentional about making sure we were comfortable. The food was delicious and came out quickly. My one piece of feedback is to skip the basic margaritas and choose your own tequila. Our server didn't seem very familiar with the drink menu--when I asked for a spicy margarita, I was brought "The OG," which wasn't spicy and had something in it that just didn't work for me. I switched to a margarita with Casamigos mezcal and it was amazing. Overall, a solid spot in Fenton for good food, especially if you're with a group. As a consequence, my chicken fajitas were just average compared to other places I've dined and my daughter's crunchy chicken tacos were ok. I usually rotate between the tacos, enchiladas, and molcajetes, and while the tacos themselves are just okay, the overall experience is solid. The fresh chips are easily some of the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant (warm and crisp). Add queso to those chips and it really seals the deal. They more than make up for the tacos being a bit underwhelming and are honestly reason enough to come back. This is a great neighborhood spot if you're looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and excellent chips and dips (biggest downside is no liquor aka no margaritas). Not every dish is a knockout, but the highlights keep it comfortably in 4-star territory.

I was really one mayonnaise filled torta away from missing out on my favorite Mexican restaurant of Cary. The food is some of the freshest and most authentic in the area, and is consistently spot on. Forget heavy burritos or overly sauced enchiladas, this place is the real deal. When you come to Esmeralda Grill, you should really focus on the meat heavy dishes, whether it be via land or sea. There are so many different options to choose from, from both categories. When thinking seafood, expect the full fish. If you find yourself with the fresh grilled tilapia, you will receive a delicious whole fish that tastes as if it was caught that morning. It is such a fantastic option. I also appreciate the camarones a la diabla, or Diablo shrimp. The shrimp are plump and juicy, the spice of the dish is excites your taste buds and is a great dish. My favorite entrees are the land meat dishes though. El Trio Perfecto is my go-to order, it is grilled steak, chicken and pork all on one plate with rice, beans, salad, and tortillas. The Mexican spice rub on the meats is absolutely mouth watering, the flavors are so bold and tasty. The meats are all cooked to perfection and the portions are gigantic. You can make different tacos with the various meats, it is seriously one of my favorite Mexican dishes. I would highly recommend this! Additionally, Esmeralda Grill has so many other wonderful dishes for different flavor profiles. My grandparents are pretty particular about empanadas, but simply cannot get enough of Esmeralda's version. They also make some killer tacos, and some very affordable ones if you were to come on Tuesday! The moral of the story? Don't base your opinion of a restaurant after a single visit. You don't come across a fantastic hole in the wall every day, Esmeralda Grill is one that every Mexican food lover should know!

The décor is exactly what you'd expect: bold colors, festive patterns, enough sombreros on the walls to outfit a small parade, and at least one plastic cactus that looks mildly judgmental. Servers weave through the chaos like Olympic athletes, mariachi music battles the sound of sizzling fajitas, and somehow your food always arrives piping hot even though the entire place looks one guacamole shortage away from full meltdown. The menu is less a menu and more a novella--pages upon pages of every dish you've ever heard of and at least twelve you definitely haven't. It's a laminated labyrinth where every combo comes with three other combos, and the options multiply the longer you stare at them. By the time you reach page six, you're questioning your own identity and whether you even remember what you wanted in the first place. It's overwhelming, and just a little suspicious--because no kitchen should be able to make that many things unless they've unlocked some sort of culinary time dilation. The server sort of has your attention when it's time to order entrées--they hover just long enough for you to say your piece before disappearing back into the restaurant's gravitational swirl. But once the food is delivered, they become nearly impossible to spot, like they've slipped into a parallel dimension where diners can't see them. Trying to wave them down for anything--napkins, a refill, a moment of acknowledgment--turns into a full-scale quest. The food is classic, predictable Mexican-restaurant fare--perfectly fine, nothing mind-blowing, the kind of dishes that taste exactly how you expect because they've been made the same way since forever. Not bad, not great, just reliably 'yep, that's food. Cheers!
