Everything is good here
Janine W.

We came to Tierney's on football Saturday so the place was packed. Thanks to our bartender who recommended sitting on the other side of the bar as there would be a gaggle of football fans arriving shortly. When you want a good burger simply made, this place is consistently on point. Further, get the onion rings as they have them down to a science. Any time we come to Montclair this place is a must.

Always a great local DIVE TO ENJOY. Hardwood bar, good bartenders, and the smallest kitchen that you can imagine. One of the best burgers around. You have try the amazing onion rings as well. A nice crowd and they have live music upstairs.

BEST CHEESESTEAK! This is totally your basic sports dive bar. The bartenders were great and attentive with awesome personalities. Definitely a staple in Montclair. I heard their burgers are great too. I'll have to try next time!

The pub's overall ambiance is warm and inviting. Wood paneling and dim lighting, creating a cozy, neighborhood-bar atmosphere. The service is attentive and friendly, with the staff providing prompt and knowledgeable recommendations. Good selection of local craft beers on tap, offering a wide range of styles to pair with the menu. In summary, Tierney's Tavern delivers a fun dining experience

You don't need my review to tell you how good Tierney's is.....80 years in business, 5th generation working behind the stick ( bar); There should be a pub like this is every town. Huge parking lot in back; They sell package goods to go; Upstairs is open Thurs-Sunday and often has live music. ( available to rent for parties) Tables outside ( in rear) weather permitting. But downstairs is where it all happens. Slightly dark, loud, lots of wood, booths, and plenty of seats at a large wraparound bar. All kinds of cool, kitschy decor. Good jukebox. Plenty of classic old school working man beers on drafts ( domestic & foreign) & some craft beers as well mostly in cans or bottles) The little grill in the little kitchen serves some great bar grub ( but expect a good wait on a busy night). Chicken fingers, burgers, fries, all sorts of hot & cold sandwiches. Not a big menu but it's enough to get the job done. I had the "off the menu", Buddy Burger which has onions soaked in a special sauce when grilled, served on a poppie seed bun. ( of course I made it a cheeseburger. It's a really great burger and has been on the press ( media) Great onions rings., fries....and oh yes....plenty of cold beer. Good crowd. Seemed people from all ages hang there. Families having dinner too. Bartenders are cool & good pub-tenders.

Lou'd and boisterous sports bar with good friendly energy. 2 pints of Guiness, a pint of Harp and a Buddy Butger, sans the usual Kaiser roll because they were out.

Regular good old fashioned neighborhood Irish pub with great bands that play upstairs. They have a really good sound system upstairs, a rather large stage area, high tops, a full bar upstairs (and down) & upstairs restrooms as well. I had a burger downstairs & they do have great burgers that taste like you made them on the grill in your backyard. Their fries were crispy on the outside & soft on the inside. Check out the LDE (Lance Dance Experiment) if you like to dance to old soul, R&B, disco hits with a killer guitar player & amazing horn section. Tip, stairs to upstairs bar/music are STEEP. They have a parking lot in the back. Also some outdoor back patio seating.

We stopped in out of curiousity to grab some dinner since we were in the area. When we arrived, there was no hostess that greeted us. We were told by the bartender/server to sit anywhere we would like. It appeared that there was a meeting about to take place as many members were sitting at the bar ordering drinks. There were only a few tables and a huge bar in the middle of the room. We were handed a few menus and just kept it simple with some burgers. They were surprisingly delicious and tasted super fresh. All of the burgers/sliders came with a side of tater tots or fries. Service was kind of slow but there was only one woman handling the bar and serving food. Overall, I would definitely come back for some drinks and a bite to eat.

Our bartender was super friendly and she had the best recommendations! There's beers on tap and lots of liquor on the shelf to choose from. The variety they had was really surprising to me. Her recommendations to others in our group was on point too. I will definitely come again if I'm in the area.

In addition, I noticed very few servers. *However, the servers were really working their tails off and were always super friendly. I'm only critical because I used to work in the service industry. I've been in her shoes. I've asked for water no ice. So she takes my water. She comes back and I asked again for my water and maybe a lemon would be nice if she could. Time goes by we get a whole salad before I get any water. I went to the bar to get my water. The food gets ordered and served. I've gone to the bar one more time to refill my water. When the food comes out after our appetizers are cleared... she serves everyone's food except mine. She just leaves mine in the middle of the table and doesn't even ask if we need anything else before she leaves. One more water refill in and I had to grab an extra napkin, an extra plate for my friends kid, and paper napkins for the kid all myself. Overall, it's the least interaction I've gotten from a server. I think she got the tip she served. I wouldn't have done so if she hadn't given me attitude for talking to the manager about our dissatisfaction. Meanwhile, she comes by and talks about dessert and doesn't offer to refill any drink again. It's not like I went and told them but they came by and asked and I felt the need to share. Maybe I'll keep my mouth shut next time. We'll be back but hope they can train their employees on better service. If you work in the industry, you should understand what's expected. At the least you can apologize not give customers an attitudes The manager offered to make things right so we appreciate them. She never brought the bag we asked for either

Depending on who's behind the bar, your cocktail can be terrific... or something you'll politely drink anyway. Happy hour is another story: the selection is pretty slim, so don't arrive expecting a bargain bonanza. But Wednesday night trivia at 7 PM is genuinely fun and worth checking out. The food is solid Irish pub fare- fish & chips, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, Irish lamb stew and other comfort-food classics that goes straight to one's hips. What really makes Reilly's work is the family-run atmosphere. The hostesses, waitstaff and especially the owners are incredibly nice and welcoming. It feels like the kind of place where people know each other- and if they don't, they probably will by the end of the night. So, are the drinks always perfect? Nope. Is happy hour going to overwhelm you with choices? Also nope. But good people, decent food and a lively trivia night go a long way

We came to Uncle Tommy's first and couldn't believe it's taken us this long to go there. Everything about Uncle Tommy's is a win - the food is DELICIOUS, the bar is beautiful and also huge, and the people who are patrons as well as working there are amazing. It's a really welcoming vibe there and the kind of place where you can go sit at the bar and have great conversations with the bartenders as well as people sitting there, which makes it that much more special. We've been fortunate to have Celine as our bartender during our visits - she's so friendly, fast, and so personable. The menu is extensive, with tons of options - all are SO GOOD. We've gotten the curry fries (highly recommend!), the mac and cheese (I think this is no lie the best mac and cheese I've ever had), and the breakfast burger (my husband said it was one of the best burgers he's had - comes with a fried egg and bacon). I cannot wait to make my way through more of the menu options... though it will be hard to have me change my order from the mind-blowing mac and cheese! I also can't wait to hit their brunch harder, especially since for $20 you can add on two hours of unlimited Bloody Mary's/mimosas - a STEAL! I now know where we'll be spending our weekends! Can't wait to try more of the menu and also get there for the live music they offer frequently. My only regret about Uncle Tommy's is that we didn't get there sooner.
