From the moment we arrived, the customer service was outstanding. We were greeted with genuine smiles and a sense of celebration, which meant so much as we were dining for a special occasion. A huge shoutout to our server Armando, who was hands down the best. He was attentive, kind, and incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions. Knocked 1 star off from 4 to 3 because they ran out of a few starters that we had hoped to order (e.g. calamari, Hokkaido scallops). Also, their service was a little off. The squid ink pasta was a surprise where the pasta was hollow. But the mussels had sand in then and weren't edible. The sea bass was nicely pan seared to it's perfection. The gnocchi and the deep fried Fava beans were tasty, but on the oily side. The scallop risotto was probably the best. Nicely seasoned and juicy pan fried scallops. :) read more

3.5 stars Saturday night dinner experience for a party of 5. Ambiance - nice decor with faux plants but the disappointing part was the specific table we sat on. The chairs were extremely low - very uncomfortable 2 hour dinner. I looked around to see if we could possibly change tables or chairs but it didn't look like our chairs would fit anywhere else in the restaurant. We sat directly behind the hostess desk near the black painted wall. Service - no complaints. We celebrated my step dad's 70th birthday here. The restaurant gave him a card with happy birthday written on the envelope but happy anniversary message inside. It was quite comical. Food - Appetizers: -Brussels sprouts not bad -clam chowder was considerably better than most restaurant -calamari was very good. It was the first time where we've seen calamari served with an arugula salad - different than traditional fried calamari. Entrees: -lobster tagliatini was decent -squid ink pasta came with lots of seafood but the tomato sauce tasted very underwhelming -Chilean sea bass was cooked perfectly but the it didn't go too well with the coconut celery root puree - not a fan -the beer battered cod was okay nothing special - the scallop risotto was cooked perfectly, truffle risotto was flavorful and comforting Desserts -lava cake - my son wanted to order this and it was to his liking Drinks I enjoyed my calypso old fashioned. Almost everything I ate/drank was delicious, but the entree wasn't as good as the appetizers, and for the high price of these entrees, I was hoping they would match up in taste. The hostess and servers were very friendly, kind, courteous, and attentive. Here's what I had: -Clam Chowder (5/5) Delicious! They serve with fresh Manila clams, and pour the chowder over it. A nice touch. -Calamari (5/5) The highlight of our meal. This is almost like a salad, and the citrus chili vinaigrette gives this a great flavor. Highly recommend! -Lobster Tagliatini (3.5/5) The lobster pieces were plentiful, and good quality. The pasta itself was decent, but the cream sauce was the miss here - it's bland and could use a punch up in flavor, which made the overall taste of this dish almost a miss for me. It's also $46 so I was hoping it would be even better than the calamari, that had lots of flavor. I wouldn't get this again and would like to try their fish next time. -Chocolate Lava Flow Cake with Ice Cream (4.5/5) shareable for two people if you're feeling full, but I could probably have eaten one on my own. Oysters and Calamari were my absolute favorite and all of the cocktails were delicious and picture worthy! Our server Catherine, who was absolutely amazing, gave us really good recommendations. We ordered the lobster tagliatini and suggested adding scallops which made it THAT much better. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and calamari was unlike others we've tasted - in the best way possible! The manager was also so lovely. Washed it all down with some cocktails, martinis and wine. We spent Valentines dinner at Tides and was very excited, hearing positive reviews about the seafood restaurant opened by the same family who owns Forbes Mill Steakhouse. The restaurant is gorgeous and is the perfect modern addition to downtown Danville. I will say that our experience was hit or miss...there were high points and low points (tldr; skip the steak, come on a less busy day). Service was very friendly but also almost impossible to track down throughout our experience. Our entrees came out and we had no utensils...and by the time we got utensils, our food cooled down considerably. I could give Tides the benefit of the doubt and assume it's because of the Valentines crowd, but a restaurant of this caliber should have exceptional service. Food-wise, the calamari was the STAR of the meal. I have never had such light, melt in your mouth calamari dressed with the best sweet and tangy glaze. The scallop truffle risotto was also fantastic and had the best al dente bite. Unfortunately, the largest dish we ordered was a $82 12oz Ribeye Valentines special and it was a complete let down. The ribeye was thin and extremely tough. While the very middle of the steak was cooked to a perfect medium, the rest was a dense well-done. While this place is rather pricey, they have a really nice happy hour even on Sunday that includes oyesters, ceviche, shrimp, poke etc from 4-6 including outdoor seating. Entree portions are on the smaller side and pricey but the quality is there and given the location I am not surprised at the prices. Everything we had was very good and service was excellent. Only 4 stars as despite just one round of drinks, one entree and a number of HH apps we still ended up + 200. It's a bit expensive for what you get. Took a friend out for her bday dinner last night. We both enjoyed our wine and cocktails. The food was relatively outstanding. We would pass on the halibut ceviche. This was very basic, nothing more than I could make at home. We assumed it would take on more of the Peruvian style of ceviche, it did not. Our outstanding dishes were the Lobster Tagliante and Chopped Salad. Both dishes were a decent size and we could share both. Service was so so. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, allowing us to choose our table. They had written a nice card for the bday girl on the table. The server was lacking in attentiveness, but also we assumed there might be a fun bday dessert however this was not offered. I will recommend this restaurant. This was my and my friend's first time attending. We went on a couples date, and the location was great. Parking was available all around the restaurant, with a short two-minute or less walk. The ambiance is great because it's not too bright, although daylight outside gives it a romantic feeling. As soon as you walk into the door, you are greeted by the hostess, and we don't have to wait at all. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted by our waitress, who was amazing and had great recommendations. She responded well to everything we asked her, and if she didn't know, she found out. She recommended everything I had for the day, and everything I had was delicious except the crabcakes, which were below satisfaction. The crabcakes were a little dry and didn't taste as fresh as I would have liked. The Caesar salad was delicious. I then had the braised short ribs with the mashed potatoes, which were amazing, with great flavors. My broccolini was a little tough to bite. I think if that had been cooked a little more, it would've been perfect. I also enjoyed the lava cake as a dessert. My drink, which the waitress recommended, was great as well, and it is pictured in this review. My friend and my husband were satisfied with their meals as well; they had no complaints. Aug '24: Came a little bit after 5 pm, just in time for happy hour. Dining room was really impressive, filled with towering tropical plants. Place was empty except for 1 other table and we found out why. It was too dark and had to use the flashlight function on my phone to read the menu. But a bigger negative was the overpowering fishy smell. Tried to ignore it and ordered some food. Scallops appetizer was good. Really liked the scallops and corn combo but the mayo-like sauce, not so much. This became a recurring issue. The crabcakes had too much sauce that took away from the crispy crust. What a great addition to Downtown Danville. Tides has been on my list of restaurants to try since I heard of it's opening. They took over the space that was Albatross. Since it was my parents' last night it town and they're both fish and seafood lovers, I thought it'd be a great place to take them. It was. Apparently they're affiliated with Forbes Mill, so it's no wonder one of their signature item is Prime Rib Eye (Steak). For Starters: *Seared scallops- Nicely seared over a bead of corn succotush Poke- fresh tuna, nicely tossed in a soy sauce based marinade, served with thin taro chips. Reminded me of my go to restaurant in Hawaii. The Calamari- Not your typical fried app. One of my favorite dishes of the night. THIS is something I will CRAVE and will keep ne coming back. From the fresh arugula to their homemade sweet chili dressing made in house. I was fighting for the last bite. Main: Alaskan Halibut- Sous vide for tender moist bites. Nicely seared without drying out the fish. Served with a side of purple cauliflower seasoned well, cherry tomatoes, over a puree of...greens. Squid Ink Papardelle- Lots of mussels and clams. Pasta was al dented. Mom enjoyed it. Chilean Sea Bass- Dad enjoyed it Salmon- Beautiful seared. My DD devoured the dish. Prime Rib Eye Steak- A tad bit medium well rather medium rare that Hubs ordered. Butter based sauce had good flavor but it took away from the meat taste itself IMHO. Drink: Tropical Punch- good fruity flavor Jackson Triggs Reserve (ice wine, Canada)- paired nicely with 3 desserts, esp the Pistachio Joconda Dessert (My favorite part of the meal): Lemon Chiffon Cake- THIS was art. We were all fighting for the last bite. My only regret is not getting it. Sourdough Apple Bread Pudding- I am a bread Pudding lover. The manager thought I had the wrong restaurant on my first review but I did not. It was Tides in DANVILLE. We went because they are listed as a good seafood restaurant. The prices certainly reflect upscale quality food, but the food itself was not up to the price. The fish and chips had soggy, mushy fries while the fish was one of the worst fish and chips I've ever had, we took it home for the dogs; we didn't eat it. Spouse had $38 black cod, rice and was supposed to be asparagus but they gave us green beans instead. The fish was ok. Daughter got cioppino and loved it. But for one out of three we are not going back. The drinks were expensive and the Butter Cake says "raspberries" on the menu, but it came with only one raspberry. I said something to the manager there that night. He said they ran out. Maybe if you don't have raspberries you tell the guests? Or you say we are out of asparagus, are green beans ok? The lack of communication was not good. Bill was high and Tides of Danville was not worth it for us. read more

Bread - we got our 4 little rolls early - they were good - I ordered soup and Cioppino. Bother are legit bread worthy options - We asked for more bread. Told us they were out, "all parties were served their bread" - (are we on war rations? Can I at least have some government cheese for my soup?) - they found another plate of 4 rolls for 4 people) and made us feel 'lucky', since they had only 5 rolls left.... reminder there is an amazing gourmet store directly across the street..... find a positive - the butter was good.... Drink order.... I'd like "X" and my wife said I'd like one toooooooo... as the waiter bolted after my order.... (yes she told me to order first as she looked after being asked - I'm not a jerk) - follow up before you flee. Water is this an actual rationed item in Danville?... person came by less frequently than one would expect, glasses empty too long...and finally arrived. She filled 2 of 4 glasses a smidge in a third glass and ran out of water..... left and never came back - damn water tariffs in effect? I should never have to ask for more water. Seriously, any good food staff knows, if you go dry mid poor your first thought is not oh well... it is- let me run and get a new pitcher.... wow. super service fail. Food was OK - no one left thinking this was the best meal ever. Not for the price or expectation from downtown Danville. Even if it was better - the service fail was so bad - no chance we'd go back. Thank you Tides for the best birthday dinner ever. It was so hard to make a decision of what to order because everything looked so good. I finally settled on the Risotta with Scallops. The risotta was the best I have ever eaten and the scallops were perfectly cooked. My friend ordered the Salmon and she loved it. At the end of the meal, a beautiful birthday plate of ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream artfully created with a chocolate happy birthday in the corner of the plate. I also was given a birthday card. Service was excellent. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist as we entered. The entire waitstaff were attentive and excellent. Ooooo, this place is good. I came here for a birthday celebration and immediately was pleased with the friendly service. Not only that, but the waiter gave us a full plate of mussels on the house -- which, it was a mistake but nonetheless made my experience better. The 10/10 dish was the lobster tagliatelle. It was creamy, flavorful, and had a great amount of lobster. The mussels were also delish, but there were some that weren't fully open (spoilt) but it was free, soooo. First off, a really good place for a romantic date night. Not too loud, lighting isn't super dim, but dim enough to create a classy mood. Service was also super attentive and nice! The crab cake was spot on, presentation was amazing, taste was perfect. The clam chowder is probably the best I've had around this area. It's close to Santa Barbara's Lure Fish House as far as silkiness and smoothness goes. For the drinks, we got the Peach Spritz and the Tropical punch. For the same cost at $10 per drink, not sure why the peach spritz was so small compared to the tropical punch. That said the tropical punch was pretty good. Tart and sweet at the same time. If anything the peach spritz was more tart which was weird. For the entree, my fiancé got the scallop risotto and I got the lobster tagliatelle. I tried a bit of the scallop risotto and it was cooked perfectly. Not overcooked at all or undercooked for that matter. It was creamy and delicious. The lobster tagliatelle was the same too. The sauce was delicious. Pasta was cooked perfectly and there's a good amount of lobster which is awesome. Definitely suggest those two dishes. Then for the dessert, we got their Chocolate Delight. Basically it's dark chocolate mousse, chocolate tuile, brownie crisp, and coffee ice cream. The only suggestion is the tuile could be crisper. The edges were crisp but the center of it didn't have the nice cracking sound as you normally would have. So probably needed a bit longer to crisp up. But the taste was on point. The coffee ice cream was amazing. Not icy and was pretty smooth. The main dessert was also really good and pairs well with the sea salt on top. Overall really good spot for food. Disappointed Birthday Dinner at Tides - Missed the Mark Came here with my wife and two young boys to celebrate my birthday. We were hopeful for a nice dinner, especially after being seated with a birthday card, which was a thoughtful touch. Unfortunately, the rest of the evening fell flat. After we closed our menus, we waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order -- no check-ins, no water refills, no suggestions -- even though the restaurant was only half full at 6pm. The server seemed distracted and not very engaged. We weren't offered bread while waiting for our appetizers, which would've been helpful, especially with kids. When the food did come, the calamari was more like a calamari salad with sweet dressing -- tasty but unexpected. The ceviche was overwhelmingly sour and honestly tough to eat, and we enjoy ceviche regularly. The pork belly and clam chowder were decent, but again, small portions. For mains, we had the rib-eye, sea bass, lobster pasta, and risotto. The rib-eye was a simple grilled steak with mash -- not bad, but basic. The sea bass was very small and underwhelming, especially compared to what you'd get at other seafood establishments. Pasta was good but bleh (but there was lobster), and the risotto was probably the night's best dish with only 3 scallops. Overall, it felt like we were just another table on a slow autopilot night. There was no attention to detail, no warmth, and definitely not the birthday experience I hoped to share with my family. We paid the check and left to enjoy dessert elsewhere. read more

Came here for my wife's birthday. The ambiance is on the upscale side without being overly pretentious. We were seated with our family fairly quickly. Service was good and attentive. We ordered the following: Clam Chowder 3.5/5 - Nothing really special here. They did use real clams in the shell which we had to pick out with a provided mini fork. The chowder fell short in flavor depth. Caesar Salad 4/5 - A good solid salad with a cheese cracker on top. Nothing to complain about here. Scallop Risotto 4/5 - The scallops were cooked perfectly with a nice sear. The risotto had good texture with a rich cream sauce. Petrale Sole 3/5 - the fish was cooked perfectly but was a bit over salted. It's too bad because the fish was not dry. Chocolate Delight 4/5 - this dessert was very good with a chocolate ganache and chocolate cake filled ball of hardened chocolate served with vanilla ice cream. Very good way to end the evening. Good God! Finally, a seafood restaurant near San Ramon. There's several in the East Bay, but their scarce. Lovely inside. A cool bar with seating, and a more standard room with tables and chairs. Nice colors and lighting. Very comfortable and clean. The menu is small, but mighty. The gf and I started with an order of Acme bread & butter [$4, 5.0 stars], and roasted brussels [$17, 5.0 stars] -- pricey, but some of the best I've ever had. I ordered the Petrale Sole [$31, 4.5 stars] -- beautiful presentation, crisp on top, served over a butternut squash puree with several different mushrooms, and a glass of Iron & Sand Cab [$16, 5.0 stars] -- delicious! The gf got the salmon, and loved it. For the finale, we got the almond crescent cake [$14, 4.5 stars] with a side of vanilla ice cream [$8, 4.0 stars]...amazing and beautifully made. We split the lobster tagliatelle and had the chocolate dessert. Food is 5/5 and would recommend any of those dishes as well as the cocktails. Took away a star because an hour into our meal, we were told that there was a 6:30 reservation and that they would be moving us to the bar. Salmon Crudo - well-balanced and well-seasoned My friend and I shared an entree: Squid Ink Pappardelle - great flavor but we found the pasta to be too thick and the squid and mussels to be over cooked. The manager offered to have it remade for us. It was slightly better but we still thought the pasta was just too thick and gummy. For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Delight. Calamari and clam chowder was great. We had 4 salads and even asked the server if they were dressed. Bread came only with the entree's. We all felt should have come out with soup and salads. We had to ask for bread plates. We were asked about special occasions. We were celebrating two birthdays and one anniversary. Was told oh we'll bring out something special. We only had the desserts we ordered and paid for. No problem, but when we asked what the special dessert was told ice cream you want it? Nope. Service was a 5 out of 10. Server wasn't very warm and friendly. Hope this helps with future customers. read more

Outstanding service, nice decor, fresh top quality food. Most the flavors were spot on, a few items were a bit over or underwhelming. Crabcakes were good if a bit spicey, creole style, the spices overwhelming the delicate crab. The scallop risotto was delish if a bit salty but that could be the cheese, it was still yummy. The lobster pasta was good, overall light flavor except heavy tarragon flavor or some other herb, I would have added lemon & sage. We had a the chocolate cake & passionfruit tart, both amazing. I had the Late Bloomer, very nice & a bit strong. This place is pricey, we spent $230 for 2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 desserts, 1 drink. We will likely come back for a celebration/Special time. read more

The theme is small and expensive. Staff and service is outstanding. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is inviting and the lights on the outdoor tables are really nice to light the table and not be blinding. It smelled like a fish market when we opened the door which wasn't expected since sushi restaurants don't typically have that smell. I got the sole. While it was cooked well and tasted good, the portion size for $33 was small and the accompanying butternut squash purée and kale were basically garnish. The lobster pasta at $46 was very fishy tasting, expensive and kinda gross. All the other fish entrees were upwards of $40. I found $9 for a small sourdough loaf and butter to be insulting, like maybe $5 or $6 at the most. And a seafood tower starting at $225 is crazy. You can get the same at Mastro's for less AND get their amazing pretzel bread for FREE. The drinks are reasonably priced and interesting. Dessert was the highlight - see my pic. Probably won't return unless the menu has some updates. read more

Came in late yesterday afternoon for the first time and was very impressed by the outstanding service, great food, and beautiful swanky, moody decor. Shout-out to our server, Armando O., who was very friendly, attentive, and had a great sense of humor! I was also pleasantly surprised by how generous the portion sizes were for the price. We ordered the Calamari and Steak Skewers as appetizers, and for entrees had the Ribeye and Lobster Tail, Scallop Risotto, and Rock Cod Fish and Chips. For dessert, we ordered the Creme Brulee and Lava Cake - everything was great! We can't wait to come back to try more dishes, and we'll definitely be asking to sit in Armando's section. But the cocktails were amazing! The prickly pear martini with sauvignon blanc infused cold foam was off the hook! A definite must ry. Tides is exactly what Downtown Danville needed for our food scene. From the same restaurant group who owns Forbes Mill, Tides is a seafood focused restaurant. They are still in soft opening mode and plan to expand their menu. We've already visited twice. We've tried several of their dishes, including the Chilean sea bass, squid ink pappardelle, and lobster tagliatelle. They also have an interesting cocktail list, but I'm a wine girl. The restaurant is both romantic and fun. There is a tv at the bar, but the restaurant area has mood lighting. There's a focus on service, but they definitely are still learning how to work in this new space. I would highly recommend trying Tides. Outdoor seating is also available.
