Great place to stay in Bar Harbor!!! These cozy and clean cabins are decently priced (low season $55p/night + 5 pet fee), conveniently located (down the road from Acadia Park entrance), and overlooks the bay (very cool to watch high/low tides here). There are two cabins that looks directly onto the bay (more$$), but we stayed in the cheaper ones (3) that still has the bay view but is partially blocked by these 2 cabins.
The cabin: They are on the smaller side, but it was enough for me, my bf, and a 16-lb dog (another couple had 2 dogs!). It has a small little porch with 2 chairs. The cabin is basically a room with a bathroom attached. It has a queen size bed (so comfy) with fluffy pillows and warm comforter, an arm chair, a dresser with a 20 in flat screen TV, a mini fridge, a microwave, and a two-person coffee pot. Bathroom was small, but enough for one person at a time. Has a shower stall. My bf is 6 ft tall and he thought the showerhead was too low. I'm 5ft3 and I thought it was fine. For some reason, our shower was VERY loud when it was on, but it has ample hot water and amazing water pressure.
PRO: My bf and I stayed here for 4 nights, and it was very calm and relaxing. We got great weather 3/4 days and the cabin was comfy, clean, and nice enough that we had no problems staying in and watching CSI reruns during the day it downpoured. The price was fair (relatively lower than other pet-friendly places in the area) for the low season. We were also able to leave our well-behaved dog in the cabin while we went out for food, which was a nice treat for us. They have an electric grill that you share with 2 cabins and we were the only ones grilling. We brought a pan for eggs in the morning, made sandwiches for lunch, and grilled hotdogs/steaks for dinner. There is a picnic table on the grass for eating. You can easily borrow plates/utensils from the Chart Room, the restaurant right next to the cabins, owned by the same couple. The owners were super friendly and they clearly took good care of these cabins. I heard they were about 15 years old but they look pretty new. Rachel (the housekeeper) did a great job cleaning the cabins as well. Although we didn't dine @ the Chart Room, it looks like a decent restaurant with amazing bay views.
CON: It is very close to the road (Route 3, main road)) and some people would think it's not private enough or it's too noisy. I'm from NYC so traffic noise is soothing for me. Night traffic was minimal/nonexistent because bars shut down at 10PM, but by 7:45/8 AM, you start hearing trucks drive by. Parking was always available right off the road; the cabin is about 50 feet away. The bay is about another 50-70 feet away.
My other complaint is related to the town itself. During the low season (before Memorial Day), there's not much to do here! We were here 2 weeks before the summer season picks up so a lot of places (e.g., Atlantic Brewing Company, desirable lobster pounds) were shut down. The upside is that we didn't have to wait, hiking trails were deserted, places weren't crowded at all, minimal street/car traffic except during rush hour (like 4:30 pm), and we didn't encounter too many annoying and loud children/teenagers.
Overall, we would definitely stay here again. We heard from locals that Sept/October are ideal months to visit Maine so we may return to do more hiking and eat more lobster!
