So here's the thing. I ordered a chicken burrito, which I expected would have beans, rice, and cheese or some combination of the three. What I got was a tortilla filled with chicken. No beans, no rice, no cheese, just straight up chicken. When I proceeded to ask them about it they told me that I should've ordered the Mexican chicken burrito and refused to change the order. Ticos is a great family place. At dinner and lunch its always packed! Full of blue and white collar Salinas locals. It was opened by the late Chuck Orasco, who really knew Mexican food! Chuck also owned another Mexican place in Salinas called EL POLLO DORADO. His other place is still in business after 25 years or more. Neither place has changed its menu. They have been around for almost 30 years and both are popular as ever. This is a great place to see the make up of Salinas. They serve no frills well priced Mexican food. read more

Great food at a great price. Tico's is a local favorite. I try to go everytime I am in Salinas. $2.50 for beer! $0.93 for chips. $3.00 for the mexican burrito with a meat of your choice. You can't afford not to eat there. The chile verde, chile colorado and chicken are good choices for the burrito. The super nachos are really good too. Most of the plates are great ... I will start by saying that Tico's would get three stars from me even if they didn't serve their sweet luscious beans. But since they do, they definitely get a five star rating hands down. Had lunch with my hubby today. I ordered the combination plate (cheese enchilada and 2 taquitos with rice and beans). Hubby had the carnitas plate and an horchata. Wasn't sure if they gave refills on drinks (was in a rush and forgot to ask). Our food was good. Didn't like the food was served in a cut in half plastic to go container (seems wasteful). This place is freakin' awesome! We've only had a bean and cheese burrito and a chicken burrito with beans and cheese, but we love them. This isn't any sort of fancy Mexican food, but the burritos are awesome and it's a good price. We go other places if we want something more special, but for burritos, this is the place. The only thing is that you have to specify that you want the chicken combo burrito so that there's cheese and beans in it. other than that though we like it. Very yummy. The staff is always friendly, and the restaurant is always clean. This place kinda fucking sucks. I've been 3 times with my family who insists it's very good just to be extremely disappointed. We had to pick up the food and take it home due to Covid. When we got home and I got my order, (nachos) I was honestly disgusted just from how it looked. The entire top of the nachos was drenched in sour cream. It was completely covered. I couldn't see any chips at all, just white goop. After turning them upside down to try to remove the layer of sour cream on top, I found about 12 soggy chips. I had to get a fork to even attempt to eat this abomination. I went to take my first bite, but paused to look at the chip I was about to eat. I noticed that the chip only had beans and the remaining liquid sour cream I couldn't get off. I realized the cheese that was supposed to be in these nachos was just on the bottom of the container, not even on the chips. To conclude this review, I didn't even eat one bite of the almost 11$ nachos I ordered. read more

This place is a joke... I make the mistake of coming to this establishment every single time. I try to give the benefit of the doubt but always receive rude customer service as soon as I walk in. I have been dining and ordering takeout here for the past 6 years and the customer service was fine the first 5 years and suddenly I receive attitude and lies from any working employee. Why do these cashiers make me feel so bad every time I come and order some food? One time I ordered food and they raised their voice at me for taking salsa which they used to have laying out before the pandemic. They thought I didn't buy any food which is hysterical due to the fact that I was always ordering food from there. In addition, I ordered food here today again.. giving the benefit of the doubt.. but this time asking if they had any green salsa before ordering. The cashier confirmed they did in fact have the green salsa so I placed my order. I go to pick up the food and pay it. She then asks me what salsa I want, I say green, she says they don't have it. I'm completely fine with this and continue to wait for my food and then I see they same woman handing out green salsas to other customers. I ask her if I can have some green salsa, she says no and proceeds to give the green salsa to people right in front of me. I don't know what I did to receive such awful and rude service. I only come to ticos for a surf and turf burrito. This burrito is the best burrito but the only thing I don't like is the way the burrito is wrapped. I know it sounds dumb to complain about it but I like my burrito to be wrapped tight like the other Mexican restaurants bc the first and last bite is usually a chunk of just flour tortilla. Overall the surf and turf is really good. I've tried their asada fries and honestly I wish they had thinner fries bc they use fries that remind me of potato wedges. Also some of their hot sauces are watered down to the point some have no flavor. This restaurant shouldn't even be called a Mexican restaurant. The rice and beans have no flavor but their horchata is good. I honestly come here for just the surf and turf burrito and that's pretty much it. I rather go to a real Mexican restaurant if I want enchiladas, flautas, or any other Mexican dish. read more
