I've always considered giving this restaurant a try given its proximity to my job. I wish I could've enjoyed their food, alas I did not. I ordered their super wet burrito. Nothing about it was wet. It was not smothered in green sauce. It was pretty dry. Now moving on to the inside components.. the ingredient list called for rice, chicken, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream. I can't say I got flavorful rice (it wasn't super red), the chicken was boiled not grilled, there was no beans, instead of pico de gallo I got large chunks of tomato, instead of guacamole I got small bits of avocado and I can't recall seeing or tasting any sour cream. The salsa I got was supposed to be "spicy". It was a very watered down salsa. The kind that you buy for salsa and chips from the grocery store. I could not bring myself to finish the rest of the burrito as it was not enjoyable. I spent about $15 and was still hungry. I believe that they're in the process of remodeling as they did not have their menus up. The restaurant itself is pretty clean. Their staff is kind and helpful. I would simply not recommend this restaurant. It gives me the same vibes as Ticos Tacos, very Americanized "Mexican food". There are more authentic restaurants elsewhere. read more

The food is so good. This is the Friday special. Tri-tip with rice,beans and a salad 16$. Great value and tri-tip is filling. I usually come here for their fish burrito's! Great place to visit when I drive to Paso Robles. The chicken is fantastic always tender and full of flavor.

The service was pleasant, but the food felt pretty basic. It seemed pre-made and lacked the authentic flavor I was hoping for.

I'd say more like 3 1/2 if it let me. Always pleasant customer service. Usually very consistent flavors but refried beans on my 2 shrimp taco combo had a few very salty bites this time while the shrimp tacos lacked flavor. My son thoroughly enjoyed his asada burrito and he destroyed the chips and salsa too :-))! Anyone cooking knows you can have off days...we'll be back I'm sure. read more

The food is not amazing but it's good. The enchiladas are really good, the rice and beans are mediocre. The tacos are decent and the chicken is just ok. Overall the place is good, not great but good. I've been wanting to check this place out for a long time -- and it did not disappoint! This taqueria is located in a strip mall, and when walking in, you are hit with wonderful smells of grilled chicken. I went during lunch and there was ample seating. No table service, but the walk up line was quick. They do have a beer selection (no tap) and there are high chairs for the kids. I didn't check out the restroom. As for the food, I had the Monday Special: a 4-piece chicken combo. It came with two pieces of dark & white. The grilled chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Juicy cuts of meat. This place is a decent spot to grab a bite. And to be fair would give it 3.5. It's a Mexican restaurant that focuses on chicken. You can get while or half chickens or traditional Mexican fare. The prices are a little high in my opinion since chicken pieces tend to be small but it is tasty. Parking is plentiful and staff are friendly. Definitely worth a try and a good spot when you're craving chicken but don't want greasy kfc. read more

Update! So, it's been seven years since my last review of this taqueria. Located in the Star shopping center on South Main. And it's been seven years since I last eaten here. So let me convey the changes. The outside and entrance, none. Still strip mall boring. The service was nice enough, a greeting and a smile. We were handed some menus which were new and clean. The tables, floors and windows were clean...I'll eat in! So my go to meal here back in the day was a wet chicken burrito, delicious. Open flame grilled bird stewed in a thick stock, packed neatly in a tortilla with the perfect ratio of whole beans and rice. Topped with more sauce, cheese and tortilla chips. Yeah, that's not what I got this time. I received a version of that epic burrito a watered down copy. It was okay maybe even good. At one point these were under $5.00 then they went to $7.00 now they're hovering above $11.00 I get everything costs more. We used to be big fans of the Davis location and loved stopping there when visiting Salinas. Found it was closed down, but that this location was still open. Turns out the previous owner retired and the business was taken over by a new family. New owner was very friendly and said that they still used the same recipes. The foodie smells wafting in the air as soon as you walked in were very appetizing. We ordered 2 pastor super burritos, one without beans & avocado substituted for the guacamole. The verdict--It wasn't quite the same as we remember. Darn. But it was still a delicious burrito that was very filling, and we weren't let down. My tiny complaint would only be that the filling ingredients weren't dispersed evenly (rice bite here, meat bite there), but not that big a deal since it was all so flavorful. We've ended up paying around the same price for smaller & less tasty burritos at other places, so I feel like we definitely got value here. We were quite satisfied. read more

I work nearby and this is a regular stop on my local lunch circuit. Some might knock off a star or two because of the crappy building, but that's not the fault of the business. Most importantly, it's clean, the staff is friendly, the food is fairly priced and, while not fancy or unique, is good and fresh. The menu is big and has all you'd be looking for at a taqueria, so you can always find something that fits your cravings. Portions are generous. Burritos are huge and will make you uncomfortably full if you eat the whole thing. Breakfast burritos can feed two easily. Is it 5 star dining? No, it's a divey taqueria in a 50+ year old strip mall. But, it's also a good local business with good people and hearty food. They deserve your business if you're in the neighborhood. And no, I am not family or friend of the owners or workers. This place is a piece of shit! I didn't even stay there long enough to try the food due to the old hag at the front desk. The bitch was beyond rude. I drove all the way to this restaurant from out of town to try there to Chilaquilies which are on their outdated menu. Then when I get there, come to find out they no longer serve Chilaquiles. Fine. We placed our order. When I asked for chips, she said they were $2.25 (despite being free everywhere else). I scrambled through my purse to come up with the money since they have a five dollar minimum on their debit machine. When I told her I thought the chips were a bit expensive she replied very rudely by saying that I wasn't being forced to buy them. I told her I would still buy them and again, she reiterated that I wasn't being forced to but them. The owner was within hearing distance and didn't intervene. The other old waitress was walking around the restaurant giving me dirty looks. At this point, I asked for my money back as I would not be eating there. She have to leave it in my money back as I told her I would be giving her a bad review on yelp. She said she didn't care! There was only one other customer there at that time and their food is not good enough for them to be treating their customers like shit! If you like fat, gristle, bone, and low quality ingredients, this is the place for you! This used to be a good place to eat years and years ago. I work a couple of blocks away. Twice I ordered chicken enchiladas to go and the first time, there was some gristly meat and a piece of cartilage. I waited about a year and went back and ordered the same and, no kidding, there was no meat to speak of - it was all bone and cartilage!!! I gagged on the first bite and when I opened the enchilada was shocked. I was so disgusted I couldn't even eat the rice and beans. I'm polite and tip well, it couldn't have been from a negative interaction with the staff. Fast forward 4 years: today, my coworker went to get breakfast burritos for the team and I explained my past experience but participated because you can't really screw up a breakfast burrito. Yeah, still poor ingredients - the bacon had so much fat and was not really cooked well that I opened the burrito and ate the eggs and potatoes. I can't imagine how they have 4 stars. While the counter staff are always friendly, the meat is not of a quality that I would serve my dog. First, I had ordered the tri-tip torta since it was different from the tortas in Southern California. It was good, but it wasn't what I had expected from a torta. I was expecting beans, guacamole, shredded lettuce, etc., but it felt more like a Philly cheesesteak. Still good, just different. After my meeting in Monterey, I came back and ordered the Wednesday special. The chicken enchiladas, the chicken was flavored, not just boiled. The beans and rice were not dried.
