My Husband and I tried this place for the first time on our Friday date night. It's a super cute spot with very lovely decor. Upon walking in we felt as if the AC wasn't on or turned up enough because though it was evening it still felt a little toasty in there. Staff was nice and attentive. I started off with what I thought would be a frozen piña colada (confirmed with the waitress) and it was pure liquid with a lot of foam on top. I ended up getting a guava marg without the jalapeños which was much better! I also tried the mango marg and it was good as well! Their chips and salsa were tasty. For my meal I decided to try the Carmen enchiladas which seemed very popular based off other reviews. They were all correct! Of the three meats, the chicken was probably my favorite. Their rice and beans were tasty as well and the portions were great. My husband had the fish tacos. He wasn't asked which tortilla type he preferred so they brought out corn ones. He would've preferred flour but I guess that was a mistake on both him and the server for not asking which of the two he wanted. (Menu just says you can choose either/or. Doesn't say you get one or the other by default.) Overall, I'd come here again! Just maybe not on a hot summer evening. read more

We sat on the patio which was lovely except for the motor bikes and muscle cars revving their engines to a deafening level every few minutes. Between the noise and the gas fumes I had a massive headache. Food was solid and I'd be fine going again. However i wouldn't crave it. The fried ice cream was the best though. Loved it! read more

But not sure why this place got all the nice reviews for food. The food is average at best. Large portions but no taste. The food is flavorless, the service staff acts like they hate their job and all of their patrons, the frozen margaritas aren't very frozen, and they not only overcharged on some items but even had the gaul to add a 3% surcharge even tho we were paying with cash. This review is only for takeout: ordering was super easy online for pickup. When picking up parking is tricky just because of the location so keep that in mind because they get busy. First time here since switching owners/name. At lunch time, we were the only ones and considering the mostly good reviews, thought that strange. Place is nicely decorated but that's the only plus. Wife ordered the barbacoa tacos, comes with a side of rice and beans. I ordered a "pick 2", burrito and enchilada and it too, comes with rice and beans. About 5 minutes after ordering, our waiter comes by and says "the rice won't be ready for 20 minutes....I can substitute something else". So no rice for either of us. My wife said her tacos were very good but would have been nice to have rice. My burrito was tiny, half the size of what it should have been and enchilada was very small as well. Not much flavor for either the enchilada or burrito. Our waiter never checked on us, I had to wave him down for more chips and salsa. During lunch, sounded like a fight going on in the kitchen, pots, pans, etc. hitting the floor, was really loud. Got our bill and was charged $7 for a beer when it should have been $6. Also had to ask for a credit for not having rice, we were charged full price. Not going back, much better places around. read more

It had been a while since this whole building is under new owners with different restaurants that I really enjoyed. However, I was not disappointed in Tia Carmen! Been wanting to try this place for a long time now, so when my daughter mentioned Mexican it was an easy choice. We couldn't get same day reservations until 8PM on a Saturday, but we got there about 7:40 and were seated immediately, which was nice. It's not very big and it does get loud in there (not a complaint, just a comment). There was a lot of laughter in the room, so you could tell everyone was enjoying their dinners. The service was excellent...fast and friendly. We started with some queso fundido and some chips and guacamole...both excellent. We are big on chips and salsa and they kept them coming for us. My son and I each got the three color burritos, which were good. He ate all his; I couldn't get there and took some home. My wife got the chicken and rice dish, which she enjoyed. The others got steak tacos and a quesadilla...no complaints whatsoever. The margaritas were good...a little expensive but good. Very solid place overall. The bill was surprisingly high, and then we noticed a 20% charge for "large party". We are a family of eight, so we are used to that, but I do not recall ever seeing a "large party gratuity" for six before. My opinion is the server should always bring that to the customer's attention. That aside, it was a good experience, They have a sister restaurant upstairs (Revolution, I believe) which I would like to try next time. read more

Everything was served on very hot plates, yet the food was lukewarm. The first bite of rice was barely warm, and the burrito, while crispy on the outside, was soft on the ends, causing my fingers to go right through the tortilla. The filling inside the burrito was also not warm. The quesadilla was delicious, but again, the meat was lukewarm. The salsa tasted store-bought rather than authentic. Amazing!! So glad to find this place in our neighborhood. The atmosphere is great, place is super clean including bathrooms (although I'd prefer regular woman / man). Chile Relleno was THE best I've ever had - by far. I'll be back for that. Partner had the El Pastor taco plate - he said "authentic and delicious". Not too salty (as it can be) but very flavorful.
