New owners! Thyme Matters had a complete upgrade! Wowsers! Really beautifully renovated. Same delicious food and guacamole freshly made to our liking. I would say the only loss is the drink menu; it definitely leaves much to be desired. Had the purple rain and it was okay. Would have loved a thymtini from previous drink menu. Otherwise, everything was wonderful!

A Fancy Westside Spot with Hits and Misses Thyme Restaurant, formerly Thyme Matters, has been reimagined by "a couple of couples" into a fine casual dining space on El Paso's Upper Westside. Their vision emphasizes good food, wine, and conversation in an upscale neighborhood setting. From the outside, the restaurant looks simple, but once inside, it leans more towards fine dining. I picked this spot last minute for a birthday lunch with friends, and we weren't exactly dressed for the occasion in our casual workout clothes. Upon arrival, I was surprised that they asked for a reservation despite the place being mostly empty, but they were able to seat me for three. As I waited, I noticed the clientele was mostly well-to-do older ladies and business professionals--a bit of a social schmoozing spot rather than a cozy neighborhood eatery. The atmosphere felt polished but slightly forced, and with only one waitress handling the entire first floor (while also setting tables with tablecloths), service was understandably slow. Food Breakdown (Best to Worst) Saku Tuna Ceviche ($19) - This was a standout! Fresh, flavorful, and elevated by the chipotle mole-style paste. I'd come back just for this. Hamachi Tiradito ($22) - Large, fresh slices of fish in a delicious ponzu sauce. Another winner. Baked Brie ($16) - Creamy and well-balanced with spiced pear chutney. Great for sharing, but I could've used more baguette slices. Mussels ($18) - Overcooked and overwhelmingly salty. They also forgot the bread, so we struggled to eat it on its own. Ribeye Sandwich ($18) - This was a disaster. The bread was rock-hard, and the meat was chewy, stringy, and dry. I wanted to send it back, but the waitress was already stretched thin. A friend later confirmed their ribeye sandwich experience was just as bad. My friend enjoyed her salad, mostly because of the dressing, but overall, the meal took a long time to arrive, making it clear that this is a leisurely lunch spot rather than a quick bite destination. Final Thoughts Come for the appetizers - They're about the same price as the entrées, but far superior in quality. Service is stretched thin - The staff works hard, but the restaurant seems understaffed for its level of formality. The ambiance is hit or miss - If you enjoy a country club-esque lunch vibe with business conversations around you, you'll fit right in. Not ideal for a casual meal or date night - It's more of a "ladies who lunch" or business meet-up spot. While I'm grateful for my friends taking me out, I don't see myself making this a regular go-to. The concept and execution don't fully match the "neighborhood gem" description they aim for. So haven't been home in a while and wanted to try something new and different being back. My girl came across this restaurant and we both couldn't be happy. From the start the place is not new but more of a hidden gem. Upon entering the room is so stunning and elegant. The starts were both tasty and one point, the tomato bisque soap was perfect and both our main entrees were simply perfect. The real start were the staff, Daniel our server was a rockstar. He never kept us waiting for anything but also understood that we were in no rush and allowed us to take our time making us feel welcomed. I'm live in Vegas now and am an Advanced Sommelier and honestly I spent 30mins loving and admiring the wine list. Such a perfect blend of mainstream and contemporary down to local wine options. This will be the place for wine lovers in El Paso! I can go on but if you haven't checked this place out it's an absolute must try!

I was very impressed with this place. The corn soup and guacamole were incredible. I had a salmon, and it was cooked perfectly. Our server and hostess were very nice. Great experience overall!

Great service, creative cocktails, & good food! I took my Foodies of El Paso meetup group, and they were very nice to accommodate us and our separate checks. I know that can be a headache, so I always appreciate when a restaurant is willing to do it. There was a bit of a miscommunication with our reservation, but they remedied it quickly so we were all very comfortable. Menu had lots of choices so everyone was able to find something they liked!

It was a Friday night, we arrived around 8pm and the restaurant was so busy and full of life. Music was blasting, ranging from reggaeton, to regional mexicana/banda, to pop. The prices for the food and drinks were all super cheap as well, so we knew we'd be ordering multiple items. Probably the best item we had was the arrachera quesadilla (can't remember the actual name in the menu for it). Our waiter was a young guy, constantly coming by asking if we wanted to add on to our order. We had multiple rounds of tequila shots and some mixed drinks, but definitely felt like the liquor was watered down. Before we took off, we even danced a couple of songs, giving us a club feel. Overall we loved it so much we had decided to come back the following Tuesday with more family. Well....we were left so disappointed. Everything was completely different. We arrived around 10, figured it being a Tuesday before Christmas Eve, it wouldn't be too busy. It seems that it was a lot busier than the restaurant had expected because they were definitely understaffed. Our waiter probably took 20 minutes to come to us to take our drink order and when he finally did, he stood in one end of the table struggling to hear us from the opposite end over the loud music. Don't understand why he couldn't simply walk over to our side. We waited another 10 minutes to actually get the drinks and for him to come around again to take our food order. Since service was so slow, we tried going straight to the bar and get drinks there, but they wouldn't take our orders because they had to be placed with our waiter. Food was pretty much the same, with the exception of the kitchen running out of multiple items by 11:30. I would have given this place 5 stars on the first visit alone: cheap food and drinks (great food quality for the value), absolutely great ambiance and fast/attentive service. But because we came back again and had such terrible and slow service, I'm giving them 3 stars.

So I, of course, feeling the need always to explore new cocktail bars or restaurants in my hometown when visiting home, was pretty excited for the opportunity to check out Hush Hush. As a true millennial Gemini, I celebrate my birthday for the whole month, so I quickly texted my family and friends; this is where I wanted to go. What I love about Hush Hush is how it's encouraging and pushing folks to step out of their comfort zone in their attire and dress more to the vibes of this cocktail house (Think Soho, ABA, Casablanca, and Elephante). You're bound to see more desert tones, muted colors, flowy pants, basically anything resort wear. It's cool to see this cocktail house make you feel like you're not in El Paso. The music is different, more loungey, to where you can hear everyone at your table. Of course, there's still a DJ, but damn, Hush Hush is intentionally geared for those who love to go out but need top-shelf cocktails without the eye rolls or the bartenders staring at us with blank eyes. Hush Hush is a true game changer. The lines might get crazy, but I suggest getting there early so you can snag your photos and a solid table/spot. There are three main bar areas, but my fave was the velvet room. I suggest catching a drink on the second floor if you get there early enough to get an eagle eye's view of the establishment. Attention to detail was on point, and I appreciated the homework and research done before the opening of this spot. It's an elevated experience for the city and one I wish every city in the States had tbh.
