Our lunch on Day 3 had been a bust, so decided to eat in more and get needed supplies. I knew that Safeway was affiliated with Albertson's, which I THOUGHT owned Foodland (which has great poke)...so came here and bought other stuff (cause we were already there). Later found out that my assumption was incorrect. The employees here are tired of tourists, I think. The woman at the seafood counter (which has a small poke section), acted like she was doing me a favor when I asked for the rest of the fresh hawaiian style poke. When I asked how good the from-frozen ahi poke was, she mumbled something unintelligible. Cashiers don't have to be friendly but should be at least respectful, and appear as if trying The lane was open, so it wasn't too busy. She barely acknowledged us but did scan each item without being asked (and we were self self bagging). But then there was a pause to push the process to start the payment process. Then another long pause after I had entered my credit card. Then another pause to print receipt. Then finally after printing, she grabbed the receipt without looking at it and just stuck out her hand AT me to grab without looking at me. The last two actions were happening while she was having a funny (to her) conversation with a co-worker. Not good when two employees together are acting like this without shame. A part of me wanted to lightly slap her receipt-holding hand and tell her "Didn't your mama teach you manners?". Purchases: -- 2 bagels ($1.19 each) -- small Lucerne milk ($2.89) -- small cream cheese ($5.99) -- fresh (not frozen) ahi tuna ($29.99 per pound, paying $21.29). -- six pack can of Maui Brew Mango Beer ($14.99 with Dep fee of $0.30 -- PB Blondie Bestie ice cream from Ben and Jerry, pint for $4.99 (normally $8.99 but on sale so very good price...needed to download the Safeway app since my Von's or Albertson's card doesn't work...had good free wi-fi in store).

They also sell Gina's banana bread for $8.50 near the register, they are huge portions and she doesn't skimp on the nuts, very tasty!! Has ample free parking in a cute little mall. There are self checkout machines in Princeville but not in the Foodlands I know on Oahu. I took a pic below. The store is clean and well stocked. There once was another Foodland on Kauai. The Kapaa location was allowed to slowly deteriorate (sound familiar?) and the locals simply drove to the next light and shopped at Safeway. Not a possibility in Princeville. If you need a real supermarket the only alternative is that same Safeway in Kapaa. On the plus side...they have good poke. If you trust their refrigeration!

I had an encounter with an employee that I reported to management. He was so rude that I would have terminated him on the spot . He wasn't the only ride employee to me . Just worth noting . I asked a simple question in a polite way . He was incredibly rude and confrontational. One or two rude employees do not represent Costco I am very aware . But this is a reflection of the leadership at this location.. I hold the leadership accountable for the behavior of its employees. For some reason the people I encountered appeared to have no fear of reprimand .. in my opinion. I suspect it's tourist hate ... that's just a feeling and I can see the constant influx of tourists getting old fast . ... but I'm not a tourist. I'm a member and I love Costco . The company or the customer; well did Target pay the $10 shipping. So I could then use $10 in gas driving back to get the item , return it to Walmart promptly and purchase what I desired at Target. I'm not pushing to promote Target, but yet buyers compare shop before on line or store ( I like stores) purchases. Buyers beware: Wal-mart has raised its prices on majority - 90% of their products sold by as much as 45% since in less than 8 months .
