Chocolate sponge, cream cheese frosting, salted caramel and popcorn...omg!
    Kath R.

Couldn't possibly review one Three Sisters Bake without reviewing the other now, could I!? And no surprises here, it's another 5 stars! Equally as charming as the original Quarriers Village cafe, the Killearn cafe sits in a renovated church at the top of a wee brae. From inside the views over Ben Lomond are breathtaking, even more so when the sun is shining as you can take advantage of the seating on the balcony. The menu is similar to that at Quarriers, well if it ain't broke, don't fix it! And it too has a vast selection of cakes on offer. On my last visit I confess I was an utter pig! After devouring their chocolate and salted caramel (if you've read my review of QV you'll notice a common theme...) popcorn layer cake (and oh boy was it a-ma-zing!) I had the cheek to take a slice of their chocolate guinness cake home too! :-o It's always said that us Arians are indecisive and I am no exception, so if you can't choose, have both I say! Food aside, they also have a lovely gift corner at Killearn, as well as cookbooks and the likes, always worth a wee nosey. Service is warm and welcoming and without repeating myself too much from my QV review...it really is a wee gem of a place - an easy 5 stars!

I popped in for a cuppa and some cake while ferrying pupils around on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Hey, they're the ones doing the hiking, not me! It happened to be on one of the corners I go past regularly so I thought I'd treat myself. The decor around the place is humorous and makes you feel welcome the moment you spot it. I'm pretty sure it's family-run (a couple and their daughter) and the cakes are certainly home-baked. They're not the neatest and tidiest creations, but they're huge and very tasty. Genuine home baking and all the more charming for the fact that they're not perfect in appearance. They do meals as well - full breakfast , etc. - but I didn't have long so settles on a cup of tea and a very generous slice of raspberry sponge (topped with real raspberries - lots of them). Even with my vast gut and ability to devour confectionery, I struggled to finish it! I spied two women opposite who'd gone for some kind of meringue creation - the top and bottom meringues were separated by around 8" of filling. The scones are the size of two fists. My cake and cuppa was £5.30 which, to me, isn't cheap. But I'd still go back. Given that it's probably the best food within a reasonable drive or a hell of a walk *and* it's got everything else going for it, it's not that bad.

Very charming and an incredibly kind staff. Honestly the best scones I've ever had. Definitely a…read morehidden gem I will visit when I return to Scotland!

It is obviously a very popular place and there wasn't even a free table at first. However, we didn't have long to wait and the lovely blonde lady with the big welcoming smile (who may have been the owner but I'm not sure) brought us a menu to read in the meantime. She and another member of staff served us during our meal and I have to say the service is second to none - really first class. There is just so much choice and really interesting, imaginative, meals and snacks too. Everything from sandwiches, salads, burgers and 'lite bites' to superb main meals and dreamy desserts; everything is presented beautifully. Large selection of soft drinks, herb and fruit infusions, excellent coffees, wine, beer and cider - just about anything you could wish for! I can personally recommend the exquisite grilled halloumi cheese and salad with balsamic dressing - utterly gorgeous!! The place is very clean - tables were cleared and wiped thoroughly as soon as they were vacated. The tables and chairs are chunky wood, there is a wooden floor as well. There are mini-spots set into the ceiling and framed articles from magazines praising the cafe on the walls. There's a full-size disabled toilet in addition to the usual ones - again, everything was spotlessly clean and looked after. We intend to return for an evening meal before long as we didn't have very long to linger yesterday. You can book a table in advance which is very helpful, the place being so popular! There is a free car park to the left of the cafe or you can park in the side street opposite.

The gift shop does have some amazing products and kitchen decor, so I have to keep my bank card firmly in my pocket! The food selection is vast, your typical cafe with soups, sandwhiches, burgers, paninis etc. There is also a buffet that looks to run during weekend lunch times. The individual tea comes in a silver pot, which is so much nicer than a tea bag being placed in a cup! It's a little detail, but makes you feel like you are eating out. My Grandpa had a ham and cheese sandwhich, which he didn't remark on which is a good thing. I had an incredible open chicken, coleslaw and pineapple coronation sandwhich. Would drive the 25 miles again just for that. I didn't partake in any fine pieces but the selection is vast and looks incredible. The afternoon tea seems like good value. The staff seemed a bit flustered, when I went to pay the bill the lady asked if everything was okay whilst sounding worried?! So not sure, if a bad day, but we had a great time so she had nothing to worry about.

Now that I know about House of Darrach, then I'm likely to plan this as one of my stops on the way to the west coast. As you walk inside, you walk through a bit of a maze of various clothes, foods, and (nice) souvenirs. It reminds me a bit of walking through the duty free shop of an airport after going through security. Then you find yourself looking at a delicious array of baked goods as you make your way around the corner... giant strawberry tarts, huge millionaire shortbread, and countless (ok maybe not exactly countless) other cakes and baked goods. Judging by the other food they had on display, I couldn't imagine that you would find much if any of it to be disappointing. I enjoyed my strawberry fondant and chocolate bake thoroughly, and my friend seemed to love her fruit scone.
