What a lovely Glasgow gem. Having had the best salted caramel brownie at the Good Food Show from…read morehere I decided it was time to pay the sisters in Killearn a visit. A lovely 30 minute drive from my flat brought me here, through a lot of twisty-roads and beautiful country. On arrival, we got given the ugly duckling table of the place, ie not by the window. But after a group left managed to secure ourselves a few of the rolling hills and torrential rain. The menu is great, with a huge variety and GF/veggie options. I had the seafood platter which was huge, as in I struggled to finish it. (Obviously did). No half-portions here, 5 or 6 prawns, a huge helping of salmon, same with the mackerel pate and some incredible oatcakes with salad and dressing. The Dear Green coffee was bitter and black and just how I like it. My heart did want the Salted Caramel Cake with popcorn but it looked slightly too sickly. I opted for a classic brownie and was not disappointed. My friend's meringue with fruit compote and cream was mammoth! Well worth a drive, you can pre-book tables which I would definitely advise. Thanks to Imogen, our waitress who was just lovely despite how busy it was. Can't wait to try the Port Glasgow branch

Having been to their Quarriers Village location and thoroughly enjoyed it, I was quite happy to get…read morethe opportunity to sample the sisters' newest cafe on a cold, but sunny afternoon. This location is a little easier to get to as it's situated in Killearn town hall. Arriving at just before 2, the immediately obvious difference between the 2 locations was that this is much busier than Quarriers. The place was mainly occupied by the lunching ladies of sub-suburbia, save for the odd lunching worker/working luncher. Due to the lunchtime rush the staff seemed to be a wee bit stretched, (the poor folk next to me had to ask for a latte a couple of times before the server came back to say she'd forgotten what they'd asked for), but thankfully I had no problems with the service. I had the tasting platter at the Quarriers location, so of course I ordered it again (after all it was tasty!). When it came out it looked the same, but somehow it was lacking some of its previous magic. Of course I couldn't leave without trying one of their amazing looking cakes from the counter, I went with the flourless tangerine cake (yes it is GF), which was fragrant and not too dry, it had a texture not totally dissimilar to polenta cake. Now it maybe second season syndrome or it could just be a matter of over familiarity, but there does seem to be something missing from Quarriers in this location. I don't know whether it was down to the time of day (I visited Quarriers towards the quieter end of lunch), the fact that this is a somewhat new cafe or down to the glass & white wall environs, as I said it just wasn't the same.. Don't let that put you off trying the place out though, it's still a good cafe, serving good food & the view out across the hills is really beautiful (especially with all the snow). If I taste not time were the issue I'd choose Quarriers Village over Killearn, but otherwise you'll probably choose Killearn for its convenience & almost as good food.

Outdoor seating is available. Both covered and uncovered. The staff is phenomenal. Very attentive. Great teamwork. Everyone makes eye contact and greets you. The food was amazing. It was done so quick and completely fresh. Those skinny fries you see with the Buffalo Mac and blue cheese, is classified as a side item. So much! The fish and chips were cooked perfectly. The batter is light, crispy and the fish is fresh and moist.

When a delightfully longer-than-anticipated lie-in thwarted our plans for a lunch-time south-side soujern, we decided to stay closer-to-home (read: within a 0.5mile radius) and finally try the lovely dog-friendly cafe/bar/restaurant we'd spied when first making the move west to Milngavie a couple of weeks ago. From the moment we walked in to excited cooing over the pup (which quickly escalated to doggy water bowls and a piled plate of doggy-heaven sausage), took in the effortlessly chic retro-inspired interiors - a wall mural of retro telephones and a converted retro tv fish bowl?!? YES PLEASE! - and wrapped our mitts around the handle of a glass tankard, we just knew we'd found our new local. With our pints of West Brewery lager in hand, we fawned over the surprisingly well-priced cafe-bar menu full of fun, modern-Scottish twists. The Light Bites, salads and sandwiches were immediately saliva-inducing but neither Lisa nor I could resist the Croque menu... me the Stornaway Black Pudding (yes, you read that correctly) and Lisa, the classic Croque Monsieur; each with the chef's own béchamel sauce. As if I wasn't already courting a coronary - I added a bowl of chunky chips; Lisa the chunky sweet potato chips. Our pal Laureen opted for the 6oz beer battered fish, chunky chips, peas and tartare for £6.50 (an upgrade to 8oz fish is +£1.50). Wow. Just wow. I'm an Eater from way back and - honestly - I'm typing this 6hrs later and still haven't even the slightest urge for dinner. The Croque was INSANELY good and the chunky chips, some of the best I've had. The combination of black pudding and buttered leeks was outstanding offset beautifully by top-quality Arran Cheddar. Lisa's Monsieur was perfectly translated: A-grade bread, proper Gruyere cheese and super-tender baked ham that just melted in the mouth. Laureen's fish'n'chips a beer-battered, white-fleshy-and-deliciously-flaky-fish triumph. And, those chips. Whether you're a Milngavie and surrounds local or up for an easy train jaunt (there's also loads of handy parking at Tesco or behind M&S) I wholeheartedly recommend checking out Finsbay. Warm, welcoming and altogether super cool, we couldn't have picked a better place to show-off Glasgow's dining delights to our London pal. With a monthly Gin club, open mic nights, special events and a cocktail list of dreams, we'll see you there.

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

I had their house chai and their London fog, both of which were creamy and SO flavorful and served in the loveliest teapots. The finger sandwiches and cakes were also really good and I actually did leave full, as did my travel companions. The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel. The cost per person was reasonable in my opinion at £16 per person for a mini pot of tea and selection of sandwiches and tea cakes. We really enjoyed our experience there and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a lovely afternoon tea!

Let's start with the good points: Having a stand-alone coffee shop within a hospital is a really good idea & also it has a nice, airy feel about it. Situated not far from the main entrance of the hospital (through the very fancy airport style waiting area/reception, take a right then a sharp left) this Costa has great potential not only for those visiting but also staff members. But I was soon to be disappointed...walked in expecting to be able to get my usual fave (Cortado with soya milk) and also pick up a few cheeky loyalty card points to boot ~ sounded like a great plan!...then I walked in and saw the (very limited) menu...this was no ordinary CC! Bad news came thrice fold ~ no Cortado. No soya milk. No loyalty cards allowed to be used. Whit?! I was pure stumped. Lady serving asked me what I wanted and I actually stood opened mouth, scratching my head for a good (and very awkward) 10 seconds. Duh. I opted for a small cappuccino. The prices were crazy though! For a small cappuccino they were charging £2.15 *gulp* Although I must say that their 'small' was most certainly not small...so on noting that I asked for my cappuccino to be 'dry' (more foam; less milk) which she actually managed really well (I say this because many coffee shops struggle with this 'dry' concept...) The coffee itself was okay; not as nice as other C.Coffee's I've had but I know a good cup of coffee can depend on a lot of different factors. It done the trick although I was already a wee bit sad that I couldn't get my usual...bah. The seating facilities were fine, I was taking away so cannot comment too much. Didn't see much in the way of food but then again I wasn't particularly looking for eats. What could be a great wee coffee shop was let down by it's very limited menu & lack of acknowledgement of their Costa loyalty cards ~ I think that's a bit cheeky, especially considering the prices you are paying for a coffee in this cafe. Hmph. GJH CC you failed me. :-(
