The dough that makes the 'roll' was my favourite part, almost like a crisp pastry dough. I followed my lunch with a wonderful almond raspberry tart. Yum! This time I'm trying the mushroom toast! Firstly the cake options are beautiful, and I was very happy to find they, on occasion, have gluten free/dairy free. I was fortunate to try the dairy free chocolate cake - amazzing!!! Coffee is by Dear Green, a little mild for my liking bit still enjoyable. The menu sounds utterly delicious and seems to have a fair selection of healthy option so I will soon be back to try this. Let's start with the good points: Having a stand-alone coffee shop within a hospital is a really good idea & also it has a nice, airy feel about it. Situated not far from the main entrance of the hospital (through the very fancy airport style waiting area/reception, take a right then a sharp left) this Costa has great potential not only for those visiting but also staff members. But I was soon to be disappointed...walked in expecting to be able to get my usual fave (Cortado with soya milk) and also pick up a few cheeky loyalty card points to boot ~ sounded like a great plan!...then I walked in and saw the (very limited) menu...this was no ordinary CC! Bad news came thrice fold ~ no Cortado. No soya milk. No loyalty cards allowed to be used. Whit?! I was pure stumped. Lady serving asked me what I wanted and I actually stood opened mouth, scratching my head for a good (and very awkward) 10 seconds. Duh. I opted for a small cappuccino. The prices were crazy though! For a small cappuccino they were charging £2.15 *gulp* Although I must say that their 'small' was most certainly not small...so on noting that I asked for my cappuccino to be 'dry' (more foam; less milk) which she actually managed really well (I say this because many coffee shops struggle with this 'dry' concept...) The coffee itself was okay; not as nice as other C.Coffee's I've had but I know a good cup of coffee can depend on a lot of different factors. It done the trick although I was already a wee bit sad that I couldn't get my usual...bah. The seating facilities were fine, I was taking away so cannot comment too much. Didn't see much in the way of food but then again I wasn't particularly looking for eats. What could be a great wee coffee shop was let down by it's very limited menu & lack of acknowledgement of their Costa loyalty cards ~ I think that's a bit cheeky, especially considering the prices you are paying for a coffee in this cafe. For a while R34 was a restaurant and got good reviews for the quality and style of the food. It was open on Friday and Saturday evenings and the press cuttings on the wall suggest it was initially successful. Unfortunately the location has been the restaurants downfall. After the initial flurry of interest they've slowly and surely cut back the opening hours to the point where, today, they are better viewed as a budget restaurant or meal focused cafe that is only open during the week (and office working hours at that). The food is ok. Open for fairly standard breakfast offerings (think roll and sausage or toast) and at lunch there is a choice of three hot dishes, as well as a sandwich bar, soup of the day and a scattering of cakes. Due to the location, the bulk of the customers come from within the building (like myself) or another nearby office. Most afternoons will see some people popping in for a, reasonably good, coffee. The building warrants a mention, as R34 is housed within the India of Inchinnan building, a (listed) art deco frontage with a modern verdigris and glass dominated extension, which is most famous for being the site where airships used to be built (hence the R34 name). As for the cafe, there isn't much in the way of competition (Erskine and Renfrew not exactly hot spots when it comes to cafes and restaurants) so from that point of view it's good to have something dependable in the local area. If you are passing, and you'll spot the building as it's very distinctive, it's not a bad spot for a coffee or a quick bite to eat. Also, you might bump into me! (wait, that's not a selling point...).

We had them cater coffee and tea for the 7 of us and well as small finger sandwiches for lunch. I really love coffee (black) and tea (plain, no sweetener or cream) and usually don't get very good of either BUT have to say they provided what I have to say is the best cup of coffee I have had in many many years, maybe ever. Maybe ever is a pretty strong statement but have to say it was a joy then enjoy. Not too bold, very smooth, totally enjoyable. The finger sandwiches very very good with a very UK'ish selecting of meat and veggie finger sandwiches. Did not try breakfast or other foods while I was there BUT looking forward to a return trip.....

I came here for brunch, and the menu was great - somewhere between traditional scottish cuisine, gourmet greasy spoon and gastropub. The food was top notch, tho mine was a little cold, which for mashed potato isn't that appetising, and the orange juice kind of manky... Still, the taste, presentation and serice time was all above par! The surroundings were quite attention grabbing - plenty of conversation starter nick nacks are on display around the walls, as they also sell antique and retro goods. My friend and I had been craving bacon rolls all morning since we hadn't made it to Jordanhill's university cafe on time. Woe was us. Then we discovered Cafe Circa which was miraculously still serving bacon rolls in the afternoon. Yippee!! The rolls were those crispy ones which I adore. We finished it off with a big chunk of chocolate cake which was perfectly proportioned. They now have an offer called a "friendship slice" where if you and a friend both order the same cake it costs only a little extra for the additional slice rather than double. The best thing about this quirky little find is the service. The guy that served us couldn't have been more helpful and was one of the smiliest waiters I have ever seen. We felt like we'd been regulars for years getting the VIP treatment. We also got a little card which offered a discount for when we next visited. Have been back several times and even though I have now left this area I would make the trip just for one of those amazing bacon rolls and lovely smiles.

Today we tried Chunky Monkeys Cafe at Charlie's Theatre & Bar, tucked away in the courtyard, for the first time. I was with my two little ones and a friend with her little one. We had coffees and cakes, and they were really lovely. I especially loved the rich, velvety chocolate and seville orange cake slice, as did my 3 year old! Next time I am at Mugdock, I would definitely visit here for lunch. They have a lovely menu of sandwiches, paninis, bagels and flatbreads with a great range of delicious sounding fillings to choose from. They also do a little kids meal deal which is good value at £3.50 for a drink, sandwich and crisps. The seating area is cosy and comfortable with plenty of space and a good number of highchairs available. There are also little nooks with child-sized sofas for your little ones to explore. I can't believe I haven't found this little gem earlier, and am looking forward to my next visit already!

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.
