I love this place so much that I have to stop in the middle of my vacation just to write this…read morereview! Love their food but what I love even more, is how they help to feed the homeless and/or those in need. Whether you're a paying customer or someone in need, EVERYONE EATS THE SAME SOUP! Bravo!!! The Wild Olive Tree is located on Nelson Mandela's Place, inside the St. George's Tron Church of Scotland. The lovely cafe is on the main level. You walk in and get seated for table service; or you can order takeout. This is not a Soup Kitchen per se, but if you're a person of need, you can enter via a side door for free soup and hot beverages to go. They have been in operation since 2015, and in their first three years of operation, have given away 12,000 meals and 13,500 hot beverages! Again, BRAVO!!! All profits and donations from the Cafe go to their two charity partners: Glasgow City Mission and Bethany Christian Trust, to support their ongoing work with some of the city's most vulnerable people. The charities also help with work placement and employability training. How awesome is that?!?! The team at The Wild Olive Tree consists of paid staff, volunteers and work placements. This team of people are awesome! The food is homemade and delicious, customer service is so friendly, and they're so thankful for your visit. If I lived in Glasgow, I'd be a regular customer for sure! If you're ever in Glasgow (down the block from George Square), please stop by for a gigantic bowl of delicious homemade soup and scones...you'll be so glad you did!

It was my…read morebirthday and my sista from another mista Angela B. and I do like to have a wee day out for our birthdays as we are a week apart. I thought visiting the Southside for a wee change. It's somewhere I wouldn't normally go but Angela had been before and new some good places to visit including The Glad Café. We opted for a brunch and I had my favourite dish French Toast, bacon and maple syrup. Yum! I had a cheeky mocha and it just complicated my delicious mound of food goodness on my plate. The place was always constantly busy and it was like a tardis and much bigger than I thought. The entrance is just a door with a small shop beside it, once you walk down the corridor it just opens up and it was wonderful. It was bright and it's for all ages. I wouldn't mind seeing a gig here as they always promote local talent. It's a great project and I'm so glad, literally, it's became such a success.

Been wanting to check this place out since I first heard about it & finally, a couple of weeks ago,…read moreI got to go. Thankfully it lived up to my expectations of the place. I was only here in the bar for a drink after work but it is such a lovely and cool place to hang about it. Some might say living in the West End I am spoiled for choice for hip bars/venues but I really don't think there's anywhere WE quite like the Glad Cafe. It reminds me more of Stereo or Mono in that not only is the GC a great place to have a drink but also does really nice food (so I hear) and puts on gigs and other such events. It's what Shawlands/the South Side has been crying out for. If I lived local this would most definitely be my local. Beers on tap the evening I went were Brooklyn Lager, William's Lager and Caesar Augustus, West Munich Red and a Sam Smith's beer. This is a really good selection for a place the size it is. Prices were not too bad either ~ £3.50 for a pint of the William's Bros. lager. They also had some nice bottled beers too, including the Drygate beers. The wine list looked pretty substantial also and again, pretty good prices. I did have an issue with the West Munich Red beer in that it tasted bizarre/off but thankfully the nice girl serving let me choose another beer instead. I like the decor, furniture and layout of the cafe, it feels very boho and being in here on a Winters evening with all the wee tealights lit it was delightfully cosy & just what I needed after a long, tiring week. If you want to come here for food I noticed the kitchen stops serving at 7pm which surprised me as just assumed this was a place were folk could come for an evening meal but obviously it really is more a 'cafe' than just the name suggests. Great place, lovely vibe and providing that little bit something extra for the area ~ I'm a fan.

We decided on here for our Sunday dog-friendly lunch destination and were really chuffed with it…read more Lebowski's is very dog-friendly - as soon as we arrived, they brought over a bowl for Joffrey and all the staff were really nice and welcoming to him which was good! When we were there, they seemed to be only doing a brunch menu which was a shame as I actually didn't feel like brunch but I went with the veggie breakfast (no beans) all the same. The brunch menu is pretty standard - full breakfast, veggie option, pancake stack or eggs florentine/benedict. They have gluten free options as well which was good to see. Food didn't take long to arrive and the veggie breakfast was good - nothing ground breaking, but a good selection for £8.95. Most interesting was the falafel which was really nice. The menu said there was a rosti but I didn't seem to get that which I only just realised writing this review! All up, I was really pleased with this brunch spot in terms of the dog-friendliness and how relaxing it was for us. We'll definitely be back.

I genuinely struggled to believe it was the same place. This could be a serious competitor to…read moreBungo, the music venue part is now a kitchen and dining area, and the old, dark bar is now bright and modern,...and it serves West Hefeweizen! We opted for the burgers, it is after all what Lebowski's are famous for, they're not particularly cheap and you pay for extra toppings, but they come with a choice of skinny fries or tats (sic). They were very friendly, I even got a tour, and were very generous to our party. The service in general was good too. I really liked my burger even though I'd only elected to have a smoked Applewood cheese slice on it augmented by ketchup from the table. The bun stayed together, the juicy burger stayed together, and the meat was of good quality and nicely seasoned. What more can you ask for from a patty? The skinny fries were as good as any too. So why is it not five stars? Well, a couple of other people commented their burger was a little too dry, so taking that into account a four.

First you go down an alley, only to reveal a secret enclave of an antique store, corner shop, and the tearoom. The square itself is fun to explore and great for photos. Once we sat down in the charming tearoom, we were greeted by a friendly and accommodating server. We ordered the afternoon tea. There was a perfect balance of sweet and savory with yummy finger sandwiches and delectable scones with clotted cream and jam. This is a lovely afternoon tea spot for all ages!

I had their house chai and their London fog, both of which were creamy and SO flavorful and served in the loveliest teapots. The finger sandwiches and cakes were also really good and I actually did leave full, as did my travel companions. The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel. The cost per person was reasonable in my opinion at £16 per person for a mini pot of tea and selection of sandwiches and tea cakes. We really enjoyed our experience there and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a lovely afternoon tea!
