The decor at Cote has a relaxed upmarket brassiere vibe, we were in after dark and with the low lighting and flickering candles on the tables it felt cosy and intimate. A spot I could happily hang out in for a few hours whither it is for a breakfast or dinner, it's a nice space - interior designed to the max but nice none the less. The staff were great - friendly, patient and very accommodating of my occasional weird menu request. When I walked in I mentioned to the assistant manager that I was excited to have the calamari starter again, a few minutes later our waiter arrived at the table to say there was only 1 calamari left and would I like it saved....erm YEAH!!!! Phew, crisis averted. I liked the menu...it's not in your face french but more french inspired. My Calamari starter was just as good as I remembered it from my first visit - the portion was massive so I didn't mind sharing it was the rest of the table. They were well cooked, not rubbery or chewy in the slightest. It came served with lots of creamy dipping tartar sauce on the side - I would highly recommend this dish. For my main I was super good and went for the Chicken and Walnut salad described as - chargrilled chicken with avocado, baby gem lettuce, baby spinach, shallots, French beans, walnuts, croutons and a mustard dressing. I ordered mine without the dressing. The salad was a little different which I like - lovely mixed leaves and big chunks of avocado, the french bean and walnuts added texture and gave the dish bite, and the grilled chicken was well seasoned and beautifully tender. As far as salads go it was one of the nicest. I also tried some pommes rissolées (sautéed diced potatoes with bacon lardons) which were delicious. The potato was diced much smaller that I expected but they were little morsels of potato gorgeousness. For dessert I couldn't see passed the Praline Crepe - a chocolate and praline crêpe with caramelised bananas and crème Chantilly. Dear lord!!!! The bananas were sweet and crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle, the chocolate was dark and perfectly bitter, and the crème Chantilly was sweet and velvety. I would go back to Cote just for this dessert. A lovely evening with my friends with copious amounts of booze consumed - I had my first every cognac which I quite enjoyed...they even asked if we wanted them served in a warmed glass - fancy pants! I will happily go back to Cote again because it was a bit different and the food was really good. It's definitely worth checking out!

So Cote is a French style chain restaurant. I had never actually heard of it before it appeared in Glasgow, but when Pammi G suggested we go along for a meal I was happy to say yes and give something new a try. (There ain't many French restaurants in Glasgow) Being honest first impressions were a bit average. The table was a tight fit and there was quite a delay before we got drinks. Once I heard the beer menu I also felt a bit sad. Three options and none jumped out as sounding that tasty. I went with a blonde beer and TBH I would not rush to get it again. Happily that is where the average impressions ended. The food was great. I got to try three starters. Crab Mayo, tiger prawns and calamari. All 3 were tasty, but the calamari was the outstanding dish. For mains I had the fish parmentier (fish pie) and it was bloody brilliant. Creamy and laden with haddock, cod, king prawns and other fish that I now can't remember. On the side I had a share of tiny chopped potatoes with bacon and again it was lovely. This was all ended with a creme brûlée. One of my favourite desserts and it again was brilliant, sweet and indulgent. A lovely finish to the meal. On the drinks front once the beer was forgotten, I had a kir royale, a couple of glasses of white wine, a cognac and a gin liqueur of some sort. After initially being slow the service ended up being very good and the staff were attentive without hovering at our table to much. Due to the celebrity guest we had with us we got a couple of nice perks. The kir royale and gin liqueur were complimentary. We also had a 70 quid voucher that was split between the five of us so the meal came out at 25 per head, but would have been 39 without the voucher. These additions obviously helped make it a fantastic night, but I would happily go back and pay the full price as the food and service really were great. All in by the time the night was over I definitely had, had a five star evening. So I'm gonna give it the full star rating. Great food, good service and a nice venue. Who cares if it's a chain?

I went for Christmas lunch with work colleagues. I don't ever expect much at this time of year in restaurants, but I was immediately pleased to see to see no turkey - not that I dislike turkey! I plumped for the ham terrine which was served with chutney and toast. It looked nice on the plate. For mains I had the chicken supreme with dauphinois potatoes. It was tasted but the presentation was a bit messy. Finally I had a very tasty, if uninspiringly presented, chocolate mousse. So it was a tasty lunch, that inspires me enough to return for something more a la carte.

Wild mushroom risotto (which was my fav), and sea bass!

The Italian and I decided to try this new place during my birthday lunch! I can pretend to be a princess on a budget right? Haha Cote has lunch deals; 2 course for 9.90 pounds and 3 course for 11.90 pounds so #WIN We entered and were already impressed by the fanciness of the space. I was in a tie-dye shirt so I was basically reassuring myself by saying "I'm a designer. It's fine" hahahaha whatever. They didn't seem to be picky about dress codes but I suppose it'd be nice to dress smart casual at least! Anyway, so we were seated and the staff members were pretty amazing. Very professional and attentive! I like! We order some wine (at 1pm but hey) and food. I ordered the tuna flake appetizer, the wild mushroom risotto for main and the creme caramel for a dessert while the man ordered beetroot goat cheese salad for appetizer and sea bass for main! Personally, the appetizers were not that interesting. The tuna flakes were basically ... yup ... tuna flakes ... served with bread and salad. I hope at least it wasn't from a can! The beetroot salad was nice but again, nothing special, just ok. My risotto was awesome though! Super delicious and the Italian approves of it!! He really liked it! The sea bass was nice too, it has a creamy sauce served with it which complimented the fish. The risotto was still the best though! But the highlight was the creme caramel!! AMAZING. I loved it so much! I'm such a creme(anything) kinda person! It was cold, refreshing, soft and had just enough sweetness! IN LOVE! Really liked it. Anyway, I think i'd definitely recommend anyone to try this place out. I'll maybe go again for dinner, just to tr it out, but the lunch is good value and quality! 2 thumbs up!

Cotê has been on my list to try since I seen a picture of a delectable looking steak on Instagram. It's stayed in my mind, and we decided to try it tonight as its Martyn's birthday next week. The restaurant looks small from the outside, smaller than I had expected it to be. Inside it is still quite small, but the high ceilings and lighting make it feel quite large and airy. The tables are well spaced out and the decor is modern and slick. We were taken to our table and immediately brought complimentary water in a cute little capped bottle. We read through the menu and I could honestly have eaten every single thing. Every dish just seemed so tasty, and I changed my mind every time I seen the waiter pass with another customers food! I eventually settled with the Calamari to start, and Martyn chose the Warm Tiger Prawn Salad. The Calamari was coated in Panko breadcrumbs with garlic and parsley, with a wedge of lemon to squeeze and some delicious tartare sauce. The squid was tender and not at all stringy and the breading was soo crisp and tasty. Martyn's salad consisted of a rocket and frisée salad with tiger prawns and cherry tomatoes and a delicious chilli, lemon and parsley dressing. I had a little try and it was deliciously light and flavoursome. For my main I decided on the Pan Fried Pork Belly on Braised Cabbage with an Apple and Calvados jus and Potato Gratin. Oh my! The crackling on the pork was crispy and salty, but the meat was just so so juicy and tender. Paired with the sweet fruity sauce and the creamy potatoes I was in absolute heaven! Martyn had the Pan Fried Cod with Peas and Broad Beans in a White Wine Cream Sauce with a side of Frites. Never have I seen fish so well cooked. Golden and crispy from the pan fry but flaky and juicy at the same time, he absolutely devoured his plate, which says something for him! He's normally a slow eater but the speed that this was taken down speaks volumes! I don't know how, but somehow we managed puddings. Martyn went with the a Chocolate fondant, which was oozing and rich and chocolatey - just perfect. I had the Tarté au Citron with Normandy Cream. It was so tart yet sweet with the cream with crumbly pastry. Thoroughly enjoyed! Cotê is the perfect place for an intimate meal, or a first date. I really couldn't fault it at all - food and service was exceptional! I'd be back in a heartbeat. The bill came to £70 which I'm happy to pay for such quality food in the city centre on a Saturday night. I'm already planning my next visit!!

Probably the best food I had while I was in Scotland. With all of the burger and pizza places around I was beginning to ask myself why I even left home. Then I stumbled upon this place and I couldn't have been happier. The food was succulent and excellently cooked, the service was amazing, the ambiance was perfect, it was just a great experience overall. I had the roasted pork belly and my friend had the duck. Both were very tasty but the best moment was when I had my first bite of the calamari. I have been all over the world and when I tell you this is probably the best calamari I have ever had I mean it. After putting the first bite in my mouth and beginning to chew I felt a slow build of ecstasy slowly start to build in the back of my head and tingle down my spine, over time this feeling would build up to a crescendo of joy and pleasure transporting me to a state of shangri-la with a opioid type paralysis. Basically what I am saying is. It was good. Like slap your mama good. If I ever go back to Scotland I will be back In a heart beat.

Incidentally, if you have a Cineworld Unlimited card you can get a discount - just make sure you mention it before they run up the bill! I'm not sure how long this place has been open, but I've only noticed it in the last few months, and any place that professes to offer both Italian food and steak is always worth a look! When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, so we were offered a choice of seating by the proprietor. The decor was warm and inviting, as well as terribly stylish and functional - the layout allows the maximum seating capacity for a fairly small space without being crowded. Service was quick, warm and friendly... just what you want. I ordered the house special calzone (ham, onion, mushroom) and my other half ordered Risotto Pescatora. When my calzone arrived, my jaw dropped. It was like there was an enormous whale of bready, cheesy goodness on my plate! The dough was lovely and soft, it was just bursting with all the lovely filling, and the sauce was to die for. Having pinched a bit of the risotto, I was very much impressed with how perfectly the seafood was cooked. Most places screw up the calamari, but it was beautifully prepared and fantastically tender. Everything was just fantastic. Honestly, I'm surprised the place isn't just filled to the brim with people. Maybe it was just the post-Christmas slump, but for a Saturday night it just seemed a bit quiet. I whole-heartedly recommend giving this place a go!

Space to seat two tables side by side comfortably but it wasnt claustrophobic due to the decor and openess of the staff. Once seated all drinks orders were taken, plenty of time to decide on meals, which i pitched for Risotto Pescatora. It arrived in quick order which was brilliant as it was fairly big, extremely tasty and well presented. The calamari (usually made like old tires) was succulent and tasty, the mussels and scallops (in the shell) were divine and with the shells still there it lended to a very attractive looking dish. Finally were the prawns which were huge, tasty and numerous. So to sum up this place is a must eat for anyone who likes italian food, i am very impressed with it and would happily return soon!

I had chicken, which was cooked nicely and came with just-right portions of mash, spinach and tomatoes. My boyfriend had salmon, which wasn't the best ever tasted, but still decent. Most of the problems we had, had to do with the service. We had reservations for 8:00, and we arrived on-time. However, though the website advertised free parking for patrons, it was unclear where this parking was. When I went in to ask, the man at the check-in station first told me, in a very rude tone, that there WAS no free parking for hotel guests. When I told him I wasn't a hotel guest, but had reservations at the restaurant, and that the website explicitly said, in a giant, red banner that there was free parking, he said oh, it's at the Concert Square car park and if you bring in your ticket, they'll validate it. Free parking might not be a big deal to some, but we're on a tight budget and needed to economize where we could to enjoy a fancier night out than we usually get to have, without going broke. I stepped outside to call my boyfriend, who had dropped me off to ask while he looked for parking, then came back in. I told the man that I'd like to go ahead and get our table, and he stuck his hand in my face and said "I'll be right with you," then walked off. When he came back, he said they were just clearing our table and it would be ready in just a moment. Half an hour later, after watching 3 other sets of couples be seated, my boyfriend went to ask about it and was told that they were just then clearing a table for us. Another 15 minutes later, we were seated. 15 minutes after that, a waiter showed up, asked for our drink, entree, and dessert orders all at once, which annoyed me. The whole time we were there, it was as if we were being rushed through, while the staff had as little to do with us as possible. I would have ordered coffee with dessert, since someone nearby had one and it smelled good, but I never got the opportunity. All in all, I'm very glad that we had a 2 for 1 voucher, which was the initial reason we went to this place in the first place, because while the food was tasty, it by itself wasn't worth £17 + drinks and an "optional" 12.5% gratuity added to the bill (by this, they mean they automatically add it on and you have to ask for it to be removed). For those prices, I expect good service and hospitality, but frankly, I've had better service at Waffle House. Even with the voucher we used (like I said, we're on a budget - you know how it is), I still don't really feel like we got a good value. If you're looking for someplace a little special to have a nice night out, I'd say: keep looking. If you have buckets of money and don't care if you spend it on just-pretty-good food and not-good service, have at it. Oh, and I'm not sure what the Mr. Uppity McSnoot's problem was with me - maybe it was that I'm female, American, or quite a bit taller than he was, but the man I dealt with in the first place and who eventually seated us kept deferring to my (Scottish, slightly less tall) boyfriend and being perfectly polite to him after being really scoffy and rude to me. P.S. We came home to find that the restaurant sent an email, timestamped 8:30 PM (our reservation was for 8, remember?) to say that our time had been switched to 9:15. What's the point in sending an email when the patrons will have already been expecting a table for half an hour? Had they called us to inform us of the change, we'd have canceled, since we'd pre-booked cinema tickets for 9:30.

We stayed for a few hours drinking wine and eating crisps! I have to say the bar area has a really nice and relaxed atmosphere. It was really quiet only a few other tables, mainly people down from the attached hotel, so we had the privacy to talk between ourselves. The bar service was quite slow, they only had one bartender on and she was also dealing with all the drinks orders from the restaurant side, so that was a bit annoying for her and em. It's pretty pricey, but the wine we had was extremely nice (the Pinot I think), so we didn't mind forking out for a bottle (or two, or three!). Over all I'd really recommend this bar if you: a) Were popping in for a quick drink with relatives/colleagues/anyone you wanted to impress or b) were meeting your (possibly potential) significant other for a nice date night. I think it would be a nice location to start, or end, a date. I'd definitely come back for drinks here.

Brian has won many awards and while he is born and bred Scottish he received most of his training in France and his menus reflect this blend of Scottish and French cuisine. This guy was spotted by the Roux brothers and was appointed head chef of their Michelin star restaurant Le Gavroche in London. So that gives you an idea of how good you can expect Brian's very own Chardon d'Or restaurant to be! The restaurant is in an old tenement building with big windows and high ceilings but is decorated in a modern minimalist fashion. This place oozes class with the "proper" table clothes, china plates and solid silver cutlery. The staff always look immaculate and are very friendly. Chardon d'Or is fine dining at is best but is never pretentious and you are always made to feel welcome. The menu is constantly changing as Brian likes to use seasonal ingredients but generally you can expect a modern take on some French and Scottish classics. From starter to dessert everything is intensely flavored and impeccably presented. You will be completely stuffed but you must keep going through all three courses. The sticky toffee pudding is orgasmic! The last time I ate here I remember saying to my friend, "These carrots are amazing!" It is very rare than anyone would describe carrots as amazing! Perhaps, "The meat was cooked to perfection", or "The sauce is wonderful", but complimenting the vegetables? But that's how good this guy is! Every component of every course will be individually divine and the combination of components will add up to three fantastic courses. If you book your table for later on in the evening you will get to meet Brian. After last service he always comes round the tables to speak personally with every diner. I think this is a fabulous touch and it is fantastic to know that Brian is actually in the kitchen overseeing all the food that is served in his restaurant. It is definitely worth checking out the website as there is always something going on at this restaurant. I have been to one of the cooking demonstrations and it was a fantastic way to spend a few hours. There are around 30 people there and you are all served a glass of champagne on arrival and then Brian personally demonstrates how to cook an amazing two course meal. You can ask him as many questions as you like and he will happily answer them. You are also given detailed written instructions home with you on how to cook the two courses yourself at home. You also get to enjoy tea or coffee and the two courses which have just been demonstrated to you, all for around £40 per person.

The boards outside show a few interesting specials to tempt you inside - rose lamb hotpot with garlic bread, vegetable stew as well as some breakfast-type options of scrambled eggs. Inside it's nicely decorated - not too over the top with the Frenchness but there's a lovely chandelier, loads of seating, and a generally pretty cosy vibe. There's a deli section which has a chilled stacked with cheeses and meat, as well as pre-made croissants and baguettes. There's also a shelf of jarred French delights like marinated garlic, truffled mushrooms, terrine, goose fat etc, plus fresh breads, quiches and Christmas hampers. As you can probably tell, they've managed to pack a lot into this deli! I was keen to try the Croque Monsieur so asked to get one takeaway. They offered to heat it up for me but seeing as I wasn't going straight home I got it cold. They wrapped it in foil for me and gave me heating instructions which was handy. While I was waiting for my sandwich I gave into the temptation on the counter and grabbed a couple of pastries for £1.50 each (pastel de nata). Now - confession time - I did actually buy two of these and one was meant to be for my husband, but I ate them both. Woops. They were just divine, the crispy caramelised top was too much for me to resist. And I don't even have a sweet tooth. I also got a wedge of Gruyere (who can resist a cheese counter?) which wasn't bad value at £19/kg, and off I went on my way.
