So much so we were kindly given a pissaladière with caramelised onions and reblochon cheese as well as some olives to munch on while we contemplated our choices After making light work of the flatbread and with some help from the staff, we finally decided on the calamari, chicken liver parfait and charcuterie board to start. Even though I am not the biggest fan of seafood, I couldn't stop digging into (and reluctantly shared) the crispy squid with garlic, lemon and tartare sauce. The parfait with toasted brioche and apple chutney was equally delicious and was quickly polished off by us all. The chutney was warmly spiced and made the perfect counter point to the pâté. For the main I chose (again, with help from the waiter) chargrilled chicken with a mushroom, creme fraiche and thyme soon and potato gratin. I hate to say I left a a little on my plate. However this is because I work in an office where there is an allocated shelf for biscuits and cake only and I have no willpower. It could also be because I didn't stick to my own plate, sorry girls! The fillet steak was perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth. I'll vouch for that as I had a 'couple' of bites. The bearnaise sauce was perfectly creamy, but if we are honest the fillet was so good on its own so we didn't use much! My friend had the haddock wrapped in bacon with pea purée which she said tasted very fresh and firm. Again, I'll agree with that after having a forkful. The dessert menu was presented with immediate reactions of rubbing our stomachs and shaking our heads declaring we were too full, knowing full well we would cave and at least share one. The lemon tart was amazing - extremely citrusy with a slight crispy topping. Tarte au Citron is clearly a French classic and Côte paired it with Normandy Cream and fresh raspberries to make it absolutely perfect. My friends will definitely be making another trip here. Working on George Square means they can take full advantage of the lunch and pre-theatre menu which seems like a steal at £9.95 for two course and £11.90 for three. Côte also have a breakfast club that comes with a super cute croissant keychain that gets you a free hot drink with any breakfast on a weekday. Croque Madame anyone?

When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, so we were offered a choice of seating by the proprietor. The decor was warm and inviting, as well as terribly stylish and functional - the layout allows the maximum seating capacity for a fairly small space without being crowded. Service was quick, warm and friendly... just what you want. I ordered the house special calzone (ham, onion, mushroom) and my other half ordered Risotto Pescatora. When my calzone arrived, my jaw dropped. It was like there was an enormous whale of bready, cheesy goodness on my plate! The dough was lovely and soft, it was just bursting with all the lovely filling, and the sauce was to die for. Having pinched a bit of the risotto, I was very much impressed with how perfectly the seafood was cooked. Most places screw up the calamari, but it was beautifully prepared and fantastically tender. Everything was just fantastic. Honestly, I'm surprised the place isn't just filled to the brim with people. Maybe it was just the post-Christmas slump, but for a Saturday night it just seemed a bit quiet. I whole-heartedly recommend giving this place a go!

However, though the website advertised free parking for patrons, it was unclear where this parking was. When I went in to ask, the man at the check-in station first told me, in a very rude tone, that there WAS no free parking for hotel guests. When I told him I wasn't a hotel guest, but had reservations at the restaurant, and that the website explicitly said, in a giant, red banner that there was free parking, he said oh, it's at the Concert Square car park and if you bring in your ticket, they'll validate it. Free parking might not be a big deal to some, but we're on a tight budget and needed to economize where we could to enjoy a fancier night out than we usually get to have, without going broke. I stepped outside to call my boyfriend, who had dropped me off to ask while he looked for parking, then came back in. I told the man that I'd like to go ahead and get our table, and he stuck his hand in my face and said "I'll be right with you," then walked off. When he came back, he said they were just clearing our table and it would be ready in just a moment. Half an hour later, after watching 3 other sets of couples be seated, my boyfriend went to ask about it and was told that they were just then clearing a table for us. Another 15 minutes later, we were seated. 15 minutes after that, a waiter showed up, asked for our drink, entree, and dessert orders all at once, which annoyed me. The whole time we were there, it was as if we were being rushed through, while the staff had as little to do with us as possible. I would have ordered coffee with dessert, since someone nearby had one and it smelled good, but I never got the opportunity. All in all, I'm very glad that we had a 2 for 1 voucher, which was the initial reason we went to this place in the first place, because while the food was tasty, it by itself wasn't worth £17 + drinks and an "optional" 12.5% gratuity added to the bill (by this, they mean they automatically add it on and you have to ask for it to be removed). For those prices, I expect good service and hospitality, but frankly, I've had better service at Waffle House. Even with the voucher we used (like I said, we're on a budget - you know how it is), I still don't really feel like we got a good value. If you're looking for someplace a little special to have a nice night out, I'd say: keep looking. If you have buckets of money and don't care if you spend it on just-pretty-good food and not-good service, have at it. We stayed for a few hours drinking wine and eating crisps! I have to say the bar area has a really nice and relaxed atmosphere. It was really quiet only a few other tables, mainly people down from the attached hotel, so we had the privacy to talk between ourselves. The bar service was quite slow, they only had one bartender on and she was also dealing with all the drinks orders from the restaurant side, so that was a bit annoying for her and em. It's pretty pricey, but the wine we had was extremely nice (the Pinot I think), so we didn't mind forking out for a bottle (or two, or three!). Over all I'd really recommend this bar if you: a) Were popping in for a quick drink with relatives/colleagues/anyone you wanted to impress or b) were meeting your (possibly potential) significant other for a nice date night. I think it would be a nice location to start, or end, a date. I'd definitely come back for drinks here.

The boards outside show a few interesting specials to tempt you inside - rose lamb hotpot with garlic bread, vegetable stew as well as some breakfast-type options of scrambled eggs. Inside it's nicely decorated - not too over the top with the Frenchness but there's a lovely chandelier, loads of seating, and a generally pretty cosy vibe. There's a deli section which has a chilled stacked with cheeses and meat, as well as pre-made croissants and baguettes. There's also a shelf of jarred French delights like marinated garlic, truffled mushrooms, terrine, goose fat etc, plus fresh breads, quiches and Christmas hampers. As you can probably tell, they've managed to pack a lot into this deli! I was keen to try the Croque Monsieur so asked to get one takeaway. They offered to heat it up for me but seeing as I wasn't going straight home I got it cold. They wrapped it in foil for me and gave me heating instructions which was handy. While I was waiting for my sandwich I gave into the temptation on the counter and grabbed a couple of pastries for £1.50 each (pastel de nata). Now - confession time - I did actually buy two of these and one was meant to be for my husband, but I ate them both. Woops. They were just divine, the crispy caramelised top was too much for me to resist. And I don't even have a sweet tooth. I also got a wedge of Gruyere (who can resist a cheese counter?) which wasn't bad value at £19/kg, and off I went on my way. They had French cheeses and saucissons, as well as quiches, pastries, bread...among other things - mmm! The staff were very attentive and friendly, can't fault the service at all. The Croque Monsieur itself was totally delicious! I was determined to make it home before I ate it but I ended up scoffing half of it when I got in my car cause it smelled so good!! They also had the Moulin Rouge soundtrack playing when I was in which I loved, that's a plus for me!
