The sign outside advertised 'the best' hot chocolate, so how could I NOT go in?! Nothing goes better with snow than hot chocolate! This place doubles as a coffee shop and a chocolatier. They make all the chocolate they sell on premises, which is a nice rare touch. They have a selection of sundaes and shakes, and offer 'chasers' with your drink order (a chaser is a selection of handmade chocolates) which is a chocolate lovers dream! I remain loyal to hot chocolate and find it a meal in itself, so I didn't opt for a chaser this time. But how was 'the best' hot chocolate? Good effort, but doesn't knock Tinderbox off the top spot! And at over £4 it's certainly not a bargain. I've only given 3 stars, due to the price, and the service wasn't great either. There always seemed to be a more important job to be done than serving customers. That's a pet peeve of mine in any service business (sad, I know!) If you're looking for gift ideas, they do chocolate workshops or adults, but again they are expensive at £40 for 2 hours. I'm intrigued though, so if anyone gives this a go, let me know how it is!

Cocoa mountain is a high end chocolatier, hot chocolate and sandwich place. The chocolates looked great although I never ate any. I'm informed by one of my group. The paninis are a kind of pick your own affair from a list of ingredients. I went for ham, cheese and onion chutney. All in our group enjoyed our lunch. The highlight was the hot chocolate. It's actually cocoa, sweetened with with chocolate another in cream and chocolate fondant. Pretty darn tasty! Certainly worthy of a wee diversion if in the area.

**WARNING** This is a lengthy review and you WILL be hungry after reading!…read more Just outside Perth and a short detour from the A9 lies Tibbermore (I know, cute right!), a typical 'blink and you'll miss it' kinda place, but really, just don't blink cos this place is awesome! It really does have it all - fresh fruit and vegetables all leafy and colourful, a gin lovers corner, wonderful cheese and meats deli, health foods section including a variety a GF flours, breads and oatcakes (try their own oatcakes, completely different from the brand that sounds like Talkers but sooo much tastier!), tray upon tray of freshly laid eggs...I could go on but you get the idea! And that's just the food section! They also have a glorious gift section where I could've easily spent a small fortune. Everything from kitchen gadgets to picnic baskets, kiddie gifts to Emma Bridgewater pottery and everything in between. I spotted a few local producers too which I loved as I always like to see locals businesses supporting each other. Then there's the café/restaurant which has a few outdoor tables but plenty inside if they're taken; the day I visited it was glorious but somehow we got lucky and got a table outside (my shoulders can prove that #scottishtan!...). The menu has lots of tasty options incorporating as much of their own produce as possible - I opted for the Homemade Chicken Liver pate while my parents both had the Smoked Ayrshire Ham & Gloagburn Curried Banana Chutney sandwich (Dad went hunting for the ham to buy later he was that impressed!). Once decided, we had to go inside and order at the counter; I'm not sure if this was due to us sitting outside or standard practise as when we asked for a second round of coffees (and some more oatcakes for me as I'd ran out!), a waitress came over with one of those electronic hand-held thingys to take that order so I wondered why she couldn't have done that initially, anyway, not really a star-affecting issue. Pricewise, we were just shy of £10/head for a sandwich and coffee (exc our 2nd coffee round), a tad steep but it's all fresh and local produce so I don't mind paying that when you know you're getting good quality (and it really was!). Given it's out-the-way location it's a busy wee place but worth the trip as you could easily spend a couple of hours here eating and browsing. There's plenty parking available and even a small play area for kids. Farm Shops like this don't come around too often, which is a shame as they really are wee gems of places!

Thus far, Barcelona and Amsterdam are real highlights on my 'places I've coffee'd' list. It seems that beautiful cafes in beautiful places serve up beautiful lattes and I just can't resist a smooth and creamy cupful'. The second, and far more mundane, time in which I find myself ordering a latte, is more out of necessity than desire; those times when you want to throw your alarm clock at the wall as it yells at an ungodly hour. The struggle is real. Today was one of these days and, as I pulled into Crieff with a cover shift ahead of me, Java Lava was my saving grace. After the obligatory 'Java Lava! - Awesome name!', you'll notice that it's very small, with just a few tables inside and several on the main street outside. It's quirky, if a little shabby, inside with chalkboards adorning the walls and basic decor. Despite this, it's still very much a pleasant coffee stop and I was given a really friendly welcome. There are lots of lunch options with salads, paninis and soups. Cakes too! I even noticed that there was a 'Dhillon's special' on the board which is only available during school hours and if curious of the contents, it's 'Dhillon' you've to ask. I'm guessing this is a personal joke on the cafe's part and it probably makes a schoolboy's day. It did make me smile. My latte was creamy, smooth and just what I needed to perk me up for the day ahead. As I sat sipping, the staff talked with several regulars. Owing to the size, I was very much a part of their conversation whether I liked it or not. Whilst hearing of their holidays, political views and local gossip - including some colourful language (!) - didn't phase me, perhaps not everyone would be too comfortable. But it was early and quiet. - Just me, the regulars and staff. There's plenty of options for lunch and the cakes look tasty. Perhaps I'll be back!

However what it lacks in size it makes up for in the lovely food it provides. The menu is extensive and offers a full range of sandwiches, Panini's, soup, coffee and cakes. The service is prompt and friendly and I have never been disappointed. The prices are very reasonable and offer a refreshing change to some high street coffee shops! I would heartily recommend one of the tray bakes on offer especially the malteser cake. I would recommend that you avoid the school lunch hour though as it is very popular with the children and can be queued out the door.
