Dave and his crew did an outstanding job! Our deck is over 50' from the lowest level of our house. When we bought the house a year ago, we knew that it was unsafe. Stairs were wobbly, it slanted noticeably, pickets were missing, railings shook and more Three Rivers came out with engineers to determine the best deck strategy at the most reasonable cost. They replaced rotting wood posts with steel, removed one set of stairs, rebuilt the top level, and repaired and stabilized another set of stairs, as well as pickets and railings. Dave communicated frequently and listened to our input. The crew was wonderful, did a quality job, and cleaned up when done (not all our contractors have done that). After shopping around and getting quotes from a few deck companies, we decided on Three Rivers Custom Decks. Every time we phoned/emailed the office, Blanca was very friendly, informative and responsive. Matt came out with samples, provided information on how the process would work and what to expect. We decided on a Timbertech deck to replace our existing wood deck and added a much wanted pergola to our cement patio. Dave and his crew, Dawson and Brad were awesome! Dave was very communicative and answered our questions, checking in on the progress, bringing supplies and picking up items to be hauled away. Dawson and Brad worked hard everyday on building the deck, then painting and building the pergola. The work area was cleaned up daily before they left for the day and upon final completion. Dave did the final walk-thru and we let him know that we were totally satisfied, everyone was very professional and easy to work with. The whole experience with Three Rivers Custom Decks was fantastic from start to finish. Matt came out and discussed our project and took precise measurements. He prepared the plans and estimate. The drawings were straightforward and clear. He answered all of our questions and was very helpful providing additional information. Three Rivers was not the cheapest of the estimates we got, but we are super happy with the results. They were able to start the job before the estimated time and worked in all kinds of weather. Joe and his crew, Jessie and Gabe, were awesome to work with. The first thing we noticed when we were able to walk on the deck was how secure it felt underfoot. We've had a surprisingly disappointing experience with Three Rivers given the ratings they've received here and elsewhere. They were the most expensive of the four bids we sought, but we chose them based on their reviews and because they would utilize poured concrete footers and galvanized metal liners for the integrated planters in our deck plan. Communication at the outset was very good but quickly dwindled once work commenced, and communication is key as we are people with jobs who had to coordinate our schedules to accommodate their work. For example, on just day 2 when we were told the crew would be coming back to complete some demolition work on the existing patio, no one showed up, and when we reached out we were told that the demo contractor's work was completed so they hadn't planned on returning, contradicting what we were told. Nonetheless we were excited to see construction unfold. We were assured that due to the complexity of design, they had assigned their best worker on the job. The crew was honest about not having cut the prior concrete patio sufficiently to meet the original design specs, and to their credit, they were giving us an extra foot of deck width (to sufficiently clear the patio) at no extra cost. That was nice. However, to the plain eye it was clear that the framing of the deck wasn't square (see photos), and when I asked why this was, I was told that there was a deformity/bowing in the concrete foundation of the house that was the cause. Absolute hogwash--the house is a new build, and there's absolutely nothing to suggest the foundation isn't straight or square (again, see photos). And of course they did not offer to rectify it. In retrospect, we should have insisted on it for the money we paid. Even if we pretend the home builders didn't make the house square (really??), shouldn't a 5-star decking company be able to easily adjust their construction to compensate?? Despite having their best worker on the job (and though we found him to be a hard worker and very nice person), there were numerous issues with fit and finish (see photos). Fascia corners were too often poorly aligned, and several deck boards were cut too short. There was noticeable bowing of the high-end PVC deck boards despite being assured they wouldn't do this. And both fascia and deck boards and railing cables have come loose in places, which we sought to remedy through a warranty claim. We understand settling happens, but the initial fit and finish was not close to commensurate with the money we paid. During the warranty claim process, I submitted a message with requested photos of the problematic areas on Thursday, June 1. I received a message the following Monday (June 5) that their assigned crew member would be in touch by the end of the week to schedule an on-site evaluation. Fast forward two full weeks to Monday, June 19, and there's been zero communication about the status of our project. I shoot off an email inquiring and receive a reply Thursday, June 22 (three days later), that the crew member's truck had broken down and was getting fixed. Okay, stuff happens, but why was there no communication about this for two weeks until I finally had to reach out? So they set a visit for Wednesday, June 28, between 12-1pm. I say fine, but please have the crew member text my wife on the day of the visit when he has a clearer sense of his ETA, since we have a baby and want to work around his naptimes with as little disturbance as possible. "Will do!" was the emailed response. June 28 comes, and no one arrives, texts, calls, or emails. My wife would have wanted to have gotten the assessment out of the way AS SCHEDULED and be able to run some errands, but she felt compelled to postpone them in case the crew showed up late. By late afternoon I'm fuming, and I send a firm message inquiring about the no-show and making clear that we're not happy with the repeated pattern of poor/lack of communication and outright flakiness. The next day, we're again told that their work trucks broke down and that someone will reach out to us "no later than next week." Trucks again? Really? And no one thought to contact us not to expect their SCHEDULED visit that day? And it is now Saturday, July 8 (i.e., on the other side of "no later than next week"), and we've AGAIN received zero contact from the company. Not the crew member, not the main office. No phone call, no email, no text. Nada. We are now forced to use a different company and pay out-of-pocket for something we've already paid for and are contractually entitled to to fix the problems that Three Rivers left us with, because we're done trying to deal with this kind of disregard and slipshod work. If their objective was to shove us in the corner and make us feel like we're the lowest priority possible, they've done an exemplary job. read more

Several years ago we had Three Rivers replace our old wooden deck with a new trex deck. They did an excellent job. This year we decided to put a railing around it since it is a raised deck. We sought bids and were not satisfied with any of them mainly because of price. We decided why not get a bid from the people who built the deck. We called Blanca who sent Matt out to assess what needed to be done. He was personable and helped us decide on style. It was also convenient because they already had our deck info on file. Several years ago we had Three Rivers do a complete tear down and rebuild of our deck. We were extremely happy with the results. Turned out beautifully. This year we decided to have a custom covered pergola built over part of the deck and chose Three Rivers again. We had a design in mind and showed it to them and they built it exactly as we had envisioned. Just finished up our second story deck and I would not recommend this company. Pros: Jim was very patient with us as we tried to figure out what would work well within our budget. They even gave us a winter discount to make our money go a little further. Compared to the other bids we received, this was the most reasonable. The finished work was excellent and just as we had requested. They addressed all the small details that we requested and fixed a couple of minor problems we found. Cons: Because it was a winter project, the projected 2 weeks took closer to a month and half. Some of that was weather, some was poor communication between the different teams. We never knew if anyone would show up on a given day, even if we were told that someone would be there, they weren't always. Since this is our first major construction/house project, not sure if that is industry standard or poor communication. I made the rookie mistake of paying them after the job was finished but before the site was cleaned up. Three weeks later there is still a giant pile of dirt in my yard and they have been less and less responsive to my demands to come remove it. This process has been so frustrating and I should not have to be a mean person to get the job site cleaned. read more

These guys were fantastic and did a really nice job installing a Timbertech deck on our house, and revising a overhanging balcony. They worked incredibly hard, even in the pouring rain (and hail!) to get the job done on time. It did take them a while to get our job started, and we had several start dates come and go before the project actually got underway. They are busy dudes, and it's due in no small part to the quality of their work. They kept the job site very neat and organized, which I appreciate, and were constantly busy, seemingly never taking breaks. They worked fast, yet they took the time to include aesthetic details to improve the look of the retaining wall. We're very happy with the job and would hire Three Rivers again. read more

Last year, my wife and I decided to replace all five decks -- about 1500 square feet -- on our 40-year-old house. It was a complex project, because three of the decks are 20 to 30 feet off the ground, and scaffolding would be required to reach them. I connected with Three Rivers at the Home Show and asked them to come out and take a look at my deck replacement project. Jim was prompt in both coming to my home and as well as in preparing a quote for the large deck I was wanting to construct. The design was beautiful, complete with a dried in living space underneath with a cedar ceiling and can lights, a lighted staircase with two landings and every support post was wrapped to give a polished look. The project consisted of replacing an existing porch with a Timber Tech deck. My concern going in was if Three Rivers could tear out the existing and install the new deck without damaging the adjacent finishes. The owner assured me that his guys were good at this. This ended up not being the case. When the project was done the deck was actually smaller than the one that it replaced which left an ugly gap. When I asked them to address this, a company foreman(?) did not have an idea of what to do. I finally asked him to provide me a piece of lumber and told him I would take care of it. Which he did. The other problems consisted of quality of work; debris left strewn around, nail heads sticking out of siding and trim boards, and pulling off existing materials to build the deck, but putting back on different ones that were inconsistent with the rest of my house. To top it off, every wall adjacent to the deck was covered with dirty hand prints and other dirt scuffs. To make matters worse they tried to pressure wash these marks off my house and in the process they blew a bunch of paint off the adjacent trim boards. This will force me to have this whole area repainted. Overall I am very disappointed with this contractor. read more

Three failed attempts to show up for a quote, then promised quote in 24 hours, it did not come until I called 4 days later, and then they quoted 1-1/2 TIMES the amount of our other quotes. No follow-up, did not even check to see if I received email, nothing. I would NEVER use them. Maybe they only want big paying or easy jobs. read more

When you pay for a premium product/service, you should receive a premium product/service. You get what you pay for, right? I received quotes from 6 different deck companies and chose Three Rivers Custom Decks. Out of all of the quotes I received, theirs was the HIGHEST. They were the most responsive by email and most detailed in their responses so I decided to go above my budget and hire them. (1) On July 1, 2015, I was told they could squeeze me in within the next couple of weeks and fit me in between other jobs. They repeatedly told me my deck was a smaller job for them. Construction didn't begin until Aug 4th. At around the 2 week mark I called my contact person and he advised me they had to let the person go (that was supposed to be the person building my deck) and that he would speak to another crew to see if they could take on my project. Why wasn't that done in advance? (2) I was advised that the tear down of my original deck would be removed within 1-2 days of the start of the project. The deck was built from Aug 4-6th (impressed by the speed and quality of the deck). The old deck debris sat in my front yard and was not picked up until Aug 10th (4 days after completion of the project). On Aug 10th I contacted the crew leader and was told the guy should have picked up the debris by now (in fact it should have been done DAYS ago) and apparently his truck broke down so my crew leader would drive out there himself to remove it all. He arrived and took away the debris, however he never ONCE looked at the deck, never once came by during construction to check on things, and didn't offer to do a final sweep to make sure I was satisfied. It is Aug 11th and guess what... the extra materials that were over ordered for my new deck are still sitting in my front yard waiting to be picked up by the lumber company. So, once again, I am probably going to have to initiate the call to get Three Rivers Custom Decks to do their god damn job which I paid a premium price so that I would not have to waste my time babysitting and making sure they were doing the job they were hired to do. I am impressed with my new deck. I am completely dissatisfied with the service. Show some initiative. Make your clients a priority and get the work done like you promise to do so. read more
