Where do I even begin? I read the reviews on Yelp and was excited to give Thread a try. I walked in without appointment and asked for Arti (based on reviews). What an incredible experience. Great soothing music, friendly staff, quick service, neat and clean. My eyebrows!!!! I'm a wax girl but decided to give threading a try again after about 5 years of waxing. When we lived in Jersey city, I went to this place often as it was quite convenient. Infact, I have been to all three locations of Thread salon. Initially, I went to the one in Financial District. They offered decent service. They overcharged me once as I didn't calculate and believed them. They also used unacceptable impolite language, and I didn't like it as I understood Hindi. That was the last time I went there. It was sad because I had better expectations from the lady who claimed to be manager back then and the one who seemed to have worked longest over there. read more

Been here twice and had a different woman do my brows each time. Both times they have been uneven. Today, I went and left with one brow thinner than the other. I can't seem to find anyone in this giant city who can do a good job threading my brows. Frustrating. read more

The only person worth going to is Pinky. Beware of everyone else. One woman gave me a laceration on the bridge of my nose which now really hurts. The girl before me looked like her skin had been ripped off as well. The woman tried to say "you have sensitive skin". In my 10+ years of threading, this is the first time this has happened. To set the context....Groupon for brows and brazilian. my first time going all out, but not first time waxing. yeah, i know, it's gonna be painful. brows...no real complaints there. efficient. fast, fairly nice shape, though my lady really didnt bother asking what i did or didnt want. rain of brow hair that fell all over my face was annoying, especially since she didnt bother to brush it off when moving to the other side, but not a big deal. put lotion on brows after. 3-4 stars for this section. now for what gets this to an overall 1 star. here are the reasons why this portion of it got a zero star rating. 1) off the top of my head, the most acutely painful experience of my life. (granted, i have never given birth.) i am not a waxing guru, but i do know, yes, waxing is painful. you flinch, you breathe, you suck it up until its over. this experience though, this reached a new pinnacle of pain. by midway through, i was flinching hard enough i was practically jumping off the table, and soaked with sweat. i dont know what it looked like down there, but the pain and the burning was such that i was imagining it bloody . when it got to the cleanup tweezing, at one point, i could have sworn it felt like with each pluck that she had grabbed skin and not hair and was ripping it off. at the end, she said, "you have very sensitive skin? when you use warm water, it will sting." ok...? 2) the results. the point of the brazilian is that it's smooth. which means if you miss anything, it's really really obvious. and there were many obvious things missed. if it's going to be painful anyway (which it most certainly was) and i was gonna put myself through that, at least be thorough! i also second another yelper (joy f.?) comment that its a bit awkward that she stopped halfway up the happy trail instead of clearing it all the way to the belly button, so there's a very noticeable and awkward demarcation. two things i have to try to fix myself. 3) probably the most important: hygiene. the place is snazzy looking, seemed relatively clean, but at one point, i think something was dropped...and picked up and continue to be used. but i cant confirm that, was in throes of pain. what i can confirm, is that there did not seem to be a basic knowledge that one does not wipe back to front. it is very alarming to feel the same wax strip that was just used near and on the back door, go on to be used smack dab on the front and center, especially when one spreadeagled wide for access. ditto the paper/cloth that was used to clean up, and the lady's gloved hand when she was applying baby powder...it was like wiping the dinner table, no demarcation whatsoever. here's hoping i don't get uti or an infection. wanted to go home and shower right away... 4) ...after which, as i was inspecting myself i discover the icing on the cake. remember that "you have very sensitive skin, when you use warm water, it will sting"? well, sure it bloody will, since there was a patch where a layer of the skin had been literally ripped off. now reconsider the "bleeding" pain, and most particularly, all the indiscriminate waxing, wiping and baby powdering and oiling (forgot that before) all over, with a patch of raw skin right in the middle of that. and the "you have sensitive skin" bs hoping i dont realize what happened. and that is why this is a 1 star and i am never going back. i have to watch and see and hope everything stays ok down there. fyi: saloni up near union sq; less flashy, but clean! and the wax i had there, while having the necessary brutal efficiency that waxing requires, was nevertheless a good deal less traumatizing than here(still painful tho, wont lie). never tried wax at the famed shobha but their brow work was IMHO inferior to saloni, and Thread's brow work for that matter. read more

I purchased a Groupon for Eyebrow Threading and Brazilian Bikini Wax after reading the good reviews. I wish I could have used the groupon for the other location, this downtown one near wall st. station was difficult for me to get to and find. I guess its one of those "hidden jewels". The Eyebrow threading was good, no complaints - I haven't found a place with horrible eyebrow threading though...and the same person who did my eyebrows did my brazilian bikini wax -- not such a great experience. The wax was HOT (yes, thats better than luke warm, but it should not be a burning feeling on your skin) and then SUPER PAINFUL! It felt like forever before the painful rips stopped....but at least she put some oil to calm my sensitive skin after...They have a nice receptionist, and free caramel candy...and a nice card that allows you to get 10 stamps, then 1 free deal (which is a trend among eyebrow threading places). STILL, personally, it was too far and too painful for me to come back again. read more

This was my first threading experience after being a long avid waxer. I gave Thread a shot because it was near my work, had great Yelp reviews and was super cheap. I tried Thread a few times and was satisfied with all the girls but it wasn't until I found Cheema that I was amazed. She knows my preferences and sticks to it. I have been to this location twice for a Brazilian and each time has been great! Now mind you, getting a Brazilian isn't the most pleasant thing in the world but this place does try their best at making sure other creature comforts are taken care of. Each time I have visited there is always a steady flow of patrons getting different services. (It seems that threading and Brazilians are their main services.) Each visit, I have been a walk in and each time I have not had to wait more than five minutes to be asked to go to the back to where they do the waxing. Each wax visit has been VERY thorough and not a single hair was left! Which is great because having patches of hair left after a wax is no fun. I highly recommend this place and will come back due to the ease of walk in's, reasonably priced, easy walking location from the subway or other mass transit, and so forth. When I made the switch from waxing to threading three years ago, this is the first place I went. And I continue to go there, even though I don't live anywhere near the Financial District anymore. I've had several different women do my eyebrows and have had nothing but good experiences. I wouldn't describe them all as great, but it's just eyebrow threading that takes literally five minutes, not really enough time to build and everlasting bond. I'm always in and out which I love. There is one woman in particular that I like, and will request if I see her there, but I'm not sure of her name. The service has never felt rushed to me, and they are always nice. Not overly chipper, but courteous, which I actually prefer to the hyped up level of friendliness some establishments employ -the kind that feels so forced it's uncomfortable! The place is clean, reliable, and reasonably priced. Plus the membership card means every 10th time is free! Awesome. read more

I just started coming to this threading salon about two months ago. I used to go the the one a few blocks away called Yuva until their staff started to become very unprofessional and rushed every time they did my eyebrows. I love this salon so much more. They do my eyebrows way better and Arti(the woman that does my eyebrows) is absolutly amazing. My eyebrows are very hard to shape since they naturally grow pointy and she always fixes them to perfection. I highly recommend her and this salon. read more

Well as I get older, I start looking more and more like a chia pet. So, I decided to get these sideburns taken care of, and the Thread salon met the need. I went during my lunch hour and was in and out in less than 10 minutes with little pain and baby smooth skin. The employees were seemingly friendly and efficient; the salon is clean. I've been coming to this location for approx. 3 years for threading. Honestly, I'm very partial to Bindu because I went to her first and she did such a great job that I always ask for her. Having said that, I have had threading by other estheticians and they are always nice, professional and competent. Got turned away at 7:45pm, even though the hours posted on the door say they close at 8pm. Just plain lazy.

The only reason I came here was because I went to my usual place (Himalayan salon $7) only to see it had shut down. Their other location was too far so I googled what was near me, I had an event so I was desperate. This is a block and a half over so I went in. It is fancier and more expensive ($10) so I confidently went in expecting better results than the Himalayan. First, the customer service. There was not even the slightest hint of a smile. No hello, no bye, no thank you, nothing. Just straight annoyed face the whole time. She mumbled and I had to ask her to repeat herself a couple times. She seemed mad at me for just being there. Then the eyebrows. She did the absolute bare minimum. She was done within 30-40 seconds. She didn't even give me a mirror to look at the results or tell me I was done. She just walked away to the register so I assumed we were done. I got a better look once I was home and although not horrible you can tell there was minimum effort. I still had a lot of hairs in between my eyebrows which she barely touched. Just giving y'all a heads up in case you're in the area and desperate like I was. To be fair, there was another lady there attending another customer and she seemed to be nicer and pay more attention to the eyebrows I wish I would have got her name so if I'm desperate again I could go to her. But I'll definitely just avoid this place in general. read more
