Spoke with Dave and told him I had a leak coming from a sprinkler head, on a system they installed back in 2019 in my home. Dave asked if the leak was fast or slow drip and told him it was dripping every minute or so. He felt that was more than a slow drip and got ahold of a tech to come out 30 mins after our initial call. Tech came out and located an extension fitting had a crack and needed to be replaced. We contacted Thorpe Design - Fire Sprinkler System after finding a leak that originated in our attic and flowed through the vent into our laundry room. We were unfamiliar with fire suppression systems and were very anxious about it. We were literally leaving for a short getaway when we discovered the leak. Like many plumbing issues, our was an unplanned event (emergency, hole was drilled through the pipe for the fire sprinklers). After attempting a DIY fix that failed, we were referred to Thorpe Design by another plumber. Ryan with dispatch took our call on a Sunday evening and was at our door within about 30 minutes. Tomorrow, I will have my new house's fire inspection FOR THE 3RD TIME. I don't want to say more, I hope I will pass. Sure, some of the problems are caused by the plumbers, but I expect Thorpe to come to the job site from time to time to check on things to make sure that everything is done correctly but they didn't. At the very last minutes, problems pop up, and the most unbelievable one is that the sprinkler system is hooked up to the wrong water line, the pressure is not enough. So the general contractor had to dig a new line, ruined the finely graded front yard, made it into a pig farm. Anyway, if I pass the inspector tomorrow, maybe I would come back and give them a 3. At this point, 2 is more appropriate. read more

Received a letter from my Home builder Elliott Homes that some sprinkler heads have activated without the presence of fire in the home. Telephone call later revealed that several heads would have to be replaced in my home. Basically a recall situation. Set up appointment for the following week. Appt time was set from 1pm to 3 pm. Ugh, bad start arrival at 3:10pm with no phone call. Honestly, I should have just left the house at 3pm. Technician arrived, young woman - attire was more appropriate for the tennis court, actually the skatepark - Let's just say it did not scream "fire sprinkler system professional". Did not introduce herself, did not apologize for being late for the time window. Meanwhile, I took 3 hrs of vacation off of work. Process involved using a handsaw to open the drywall opening a bit. Inserting a socket to remove old head and installing the new one... lots of drywall bits fell here and there, a small drop cloth was used - did a marginal job cleaning drywall bits, +didn't move furniture back. If I was involved I would've gladly moved it out of the way and back, but since you moved it - you should move it back. Also, work took place all over the house - would've been nice to know work would be in my master bath & master closet, most people keep their valuables, firearms, and private stuff in this space - technician walked all over the house like she owned the place! only explaining where the work was needed when I followed her to our master bedroom. I had closed my garage door while the work took place - the tech seemed annoyed as she stormed into house to turn the water back on, then into the garage letting the door slam behind her in both directions. Pet peeve! Excuse me for not wanting any prying eyes or any of my bikes getting swiped! Job was complete it by 4pm - so I get to salvage a tiny piece of my day. I still have to vacuum again. Still don't know who came into our house - though the truck had a logo. Guess I'll know if anything leaks in a day or two. Was handed business cards - not sure if they are hers. Overall customer service, representation/presentation, leaving the work site in equal condition, and general mood - simple yet significant improvements can be made on all fronts. I would NEVER have contracted a company in Brentwood if I was knowledgeable about travel pay. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY IF YOU ARE DOING A NEW BUILD I hired this company and all they would do is put in the actual piping and gauges. THEY DO NOT do electrical or plumbing or any HOOK UPS To THEIR system They supplied an outside door box to get to the gauges which LEAKED in a rainstorm into the wall damaging insulation and sheet rock. When I called to complain they told me it was my fault for not insulating the door better WHAT??? So I ended up having to replace the sheet rock, insulation and moving the door to the inside of the house and repairing the outside wall on my own When I called to have the sprinkler covers installed on the inside of the house I had an a.m. appointment 8 to 12 Someone showed up at 5:30AM!!!! He TRESPASSED onto my property into the backyard into the new house And proceeded to do the work in the dark. HE SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME . When I called to complain about it I was only told we're sorry will talk to the employee about it REALLY ? These guys are unbelievably professional and efficient. We discovered a leak in a fire sprinkler head in our guest room at 11PM last Tuesday. I called their office at 730AM the next morning, they answered on the first ring, looked up my address and confirmed they were here over 11 years ago. It gets better...they sent two guys out who arrived by 9AM and had a pipe cut, replaced and system back up by noon. To top it off "sorry for the inconvenience...this is a no charge service." I know contractors and service providers work hard, which results in many delays, appointments days or weeks out, huge labor charges, etc. Thorpe Design turned this around in about 12 hours and no charge! Well this was a project where everything went wrong. 7 sprinklers leaked upon installation of 4 floors of sprinklers. The main valve also leaked. There were cracked sprinklers and loosely installed sprinklers. And there was some damage to the home. Why am I still giving Thorpe 4 stars? Because things happen in life and in business. Products are faulty, people are fallible...it is how recovery gets handled that matters. In this case, while the field manager lacked customer focus and skill, the senior management took the whole string of errors into account and tried his very best to make it better. The VP over in-home residential made himself available, apologized, got a plan to fix things properly, paid to fix the damage, and gave me a little of a price break. A personal touch and core values count in business. read more

On the recommendation of my architect I contracted Thorpe Design to design and install sprinkler system for a major remodel. After almost a year they have still not completed the installation. Design and approval went fine but installation is an ongoing issue. They offer all sorts of excuses for not showing up when they promise but the bottom line is that they are unreliable. When they've done work , it has consistently been incomplete - requiring another visit which always takes MONTHS - no I am not exaggerating. Some specifics Poor communications, the only time Thorpe contacted me proactively has been about payment. The do not honor scheduling commitments, causing wasted time of my contractor waiting for them to show - then they call and say they can't make it. Unbelievably slow: it has taken six months to get some tanks and a pump for the system. Work done so far has been incomplete, for example they 'missed' two finished sprinkler heads on our install - they were clearly visible they obviously were just in a hurry and did shoddy work. The electrical specifications varied from what was originally cited causing added rewiring costs. My contractor says he's seen poor responsiveness out of fire sprinkler companies before but this is the worst. read more

Our home was built in 2014, and Thorpe Design was our Fire Sprinkler company. In March 2018, I saw an article about defective fire sprinklers that were activating with no fire present. The fire sprinklers that were mentioned were the same ones that had been installed in our home. I contacted Thorpe Design and spoke with Gina, she was able to get us scheduled within a few weeks to have all the sprinkler heads replaced at no charge. The technician came in on a Saturday and was early for the appointment! He was fast, efficient, and the work was completed before our actually appointment window! I spoke with Thomas who was very professional and helpful, made me aware of potential costs upfront (appreciated!!) and worked to send a couple of guys out late on a Friday afternoon. The gentlemen who arrived very quickly had just finished up another job nearby I think and were so professional and kind- so much better than the kind of service we've been finding lately. They quickly assessed the problem for us (in this case it was actually the HVAC not the sprinkler) and were on their way.
