Our heater and air conditioning were functioning properly, but we received a flyer from a well-known company offering a low-cost inspection of our unit. Wanting to be responsible, we decided to contact them for the service. When the technician arrived, the heater was working, but a few minutes later, it stopped. What a coincidence! The young technician remarked on how fortunate we were that he was there to diagnose the issue. He inquired about the age of the unit, and when we told him it was 22 years old, he said it was no surprise that it had stopped working. He proceeded to check the unit and listed several problems: it needed a new ignitor ($458), a cleaning of the blower ($510), a new blower motor ($1,100), and a new control board ($1,376). The total for all of this came to $3,444! He then suggested that instead of spending that money on repairs, we should consider investing in a completely new unit that his company could install for about $25,000. We told him we would think about it. Afterward, we decided to call Fairview Heating and Air Conditioning. They sent out Keanu, a nice, intelligent, and honest young man. We explained our issue with the heater not functioning. Keanu quickly removed the back of the unit and, within seconds, said, "I know why your unit isn't working. The gas lever is turned off!" We were shocked--how could that have happened? I immediately turned on the gas valve. When Keanu then checked out the unit, everything cycled properly and he was able to verify that everything was working normally -- just like it was before the big company's visit. Keanu was very knowlegable and explained to us -in terms we could actually understand- how our system works. Today i type this re-review with egg on my face. Yes Robert C. is correct he did not work on my Gas firelog insert. My confusion was that Fairview did work on my Air Conditioning unit in July of 24. Our HVAC unit and gas furnace were both way past end-of-life (both ~30 years old). We began the arduous process to get quotes for a heat pump + air handler system to replace both units with something energy efficient so we would no longer be giving our ~entire paycheck~ to the utility company. All of the quotes included new ductwork to fix an issue with hot & cold spots in different areas of the house due to undersized ducts, upgrade to a larger system (5 ton unit), duct cleaning, and some other minor work like increasing return register sizes, etc. We got one quote from a different company for close to $40k, another for $30k, another for $25k, and finally Fairview Heating & Air came in around $19k. It wasn't just the price that stood out to us, though. Some of the other companies used some high-pressure sales tactics like telling us we could only get a discount if we "signed now" and another company had a technician who didn't even know how heat pumps work and had no industry knowledge. We liked that Fairview's technician who came to do the quote - Robert - had extensive knowledge and experience. He answered all of our many questions with ton of good insight, plus gave us information we didn't even know to ask, like how to get energy efficiency rebates and comparisons of the Pros/Cons to different models. The installation went really smoothly and the technicians were all very accommodating. Before starting, we asked to go through the project requirements step-by-step to make sure we were all on the same page ("level set") and they were willing to explain everything to us, which is great because we like to be able to really understand what is happening to the house. They made sure the return vent placement was acceptable to us and also accommodated our request to run an entirely new duct instead of using a Y splitter for the other duct. They were also super nice about our dogs barking and special requests we made to keep certain doors shut (due to some escape artist cats)! After all was said and done, one of the technicians scoured the entire house to make sure he swept and cleaned up every bit of dust everywhere too. Fairview also offered a cash pay discount (or credit card pay or financing options) and Heather at the customer service desk / front office was really helpful and flexible with supporting us while we navigating sending a payment using the payment portal online. We also really like that this is a union shop, so we could trust that our dollars were going to an ethical company. We love our new Daikin Fit - it's so compact, quiet, and the app + wall interface are both super easy to use. We're planning to put a tranquil sitting garden near where the heat pump is and it's not a bother at all, especially compared to the old HVAC unit that sounded like a jet engine. Attached is a photo of our utility natural gas daily costs. Can you tell which day was the cut over to the heat pump?! In one swift motion we went from some $20 tier 2 days to a cost of less than $1 every other day - HOLY MOLY! Plus we've been so comfortable with the heating since the install. Now the heat distribution is so much more even and that was honestly so important to us with my parents living here who both have medical needs. Our quality of life has improved drastically. We can't wait til summer when we see our electric costs with the new system compared to last year - so exciting! Major house work can be such a stressful thing, but Fairview did a great job and we felt confident using them every step of the way. When I called at 8:30 in the morning because my heater wouldn't start up, the girl (didn't get her name) who took my call was super nice and scheduled a visit between 12-4. They called around 11:30 and Grant Piccone came and couldn't replicate what I experienced. I spent 3 days without my ac unit in 100 degree weather. I spent 3 days because I called Perfect Star company. The worst company. I won't go into that. I then called Fairview and they came out the next day and replaced a fan motor that had gone bad. My unit is over 30 years old. I told the technician I really couldn't afford a new unit.
