Wanting to be responsible, we decided to contact them for the service. When the technician arrived, the heater was working, but a few minutes later, it stopped. What a coincidence! The young technician remarked on how fortunate we were that he was there to diagnose the issue. He inquired about the age of the unit, and when we told him it was 22 years old, he said it was no surprise that it had stopped working. He proceeded to check the unit and listed several problems: it needed a new ignitor ($458), a cleaning of the blower ($510), a new blower motor ($1,100), and a new control board ($1,376). The total for all of this came to $3,444! He then suggested that instead of spending that money on repairs, we should consider investing in a completely new unit that his company could install for about $25,000. We told him we would think about it. Afterward, we decided to call Fairview Heating and Air Conditioning. They sent out Keanu, a nice, intelligent, and honest young man. We explained our issue with the heater not functioning. Keanu quickly removed the back of the unit and, within seconds, said, "I know why your unit isn't working. The gas lever is turned off!" We were shocked--how could that have happened? I immediately turned on the gas valve. When Keanu then checked out the unit, everything cycled properly and he was able to verify that everything was working normally -- just like it was before the big company's visit. Keanu was very knowlegable and explained to us -in terms we could actually understand- how our system works. Needless to say, we have found ourselves a new heating and air conditioning company!

Since then, they've serviced the almost 22 year old system at my home, nursing it along. With each semi-annual "check-up" service, they advised me on what I needed to do, and what could wait. When funds were tight, they suggested stopgaps to help. Because of this history, when Alex showed me that my heater was leeching carbon monoxide into my home, I knew I could trust him. While I waited for my appointment, I was provided with space heaters gratis. This IS an independently owned business, and they treat customers like family. Ozzy (Osvaldo) and Anthony installed a new heat pump and air conditioner for me last week. They were at my home three days. Not only were they professional, friendly, and polite, they were also respectful of my home--taking time EVERY day to cover my carpeted areas, covering their boots as they came into and exited the house, and cleaning up any installation debris before they left each day. Ozzy and Anthony discovered that a part of the original system was not going to work as efficiently with the new system (the dampers) given the difference in the size. Ozzy explained the difference to me, noted the cost, and the pros and cons. He didn't pressure me to upgrade the items but he made sure I had enough information to make a decision. At the end of the installation, Ozzy took the time to show me how to use the new digital thermostat controls and gave me tips on how to use the system economically. He provided me information on how to follow up if there were ever any problems. Just like other times, Vic called a few days later to see how things were going (I missed the call, but still...so so kind and thoughtful). It's a lot of money to replace your entire HVAC system, no matter which company you use, but hiring one where you know you can trust the company. Simply put, you'll never have worries about trusting Elite Comfort Systems.

Last Fall (or was it the year before?) our furnace stopped working, and I called Cali HVAC for service. They sent Oleg fairly quickly, and he did a good job repairing it; in fact, he proved himself to be very conscientious when, after replacing a circuit board that fixed the problem, he didn't like the way one part on the board was oriented, so he came back and replaced that board with a different one that fit better. He could have left it as is, since it was working, and I probably never would have known. In addition to fixing the problem pretty quickly, Oleg was also very informative and polite, answering all questions with patience and no attitudes. So, now I have moved into a new house, and even though the HVAC works, I want to have them check it out, and hopefully educate me about filters to use, what maintenance it might need, and how to make it quieter.
