Extremely disappointing experience at Thomas Sweet. I ordered the black raspberry sorbet specifically because I am a repeat customer and enjoyed it the last time I visited Thomas sweet. Instead, I was given the dairy-based black raspberry ice cream. I noticed right away and politely went back to let them know, expecting a simple swap for what I originally asked for. Shockingly, they refused to replace it. No apology, no willingness to make it right, just a dismissive attitude. My husband even went back with me to support me, and they told him, "well, we already gave her the ice cream," as if that justified ignoring a clear mistake that affected my dietary restrictions. mistakes happen but the refusal to take responsibility and the lack of basic customer service was upsetting. I've been going here since I went to school at GW back in 2015. There is a bit of lacking in the cleaniless department, however the portion sizes and taste are immaculate. Ambiance - 3/5: Seating both outside and inside, but nothing special about the ambiance of this place. Definitely some to be desired in terms of cleanliness. Price - 4/5: Not bad pricing for ice cream based on portion sizes but it is a tad bit expensive. Food - 5/5: If this review was just based on the food, then it would be a 5/5 for sure. The coffee oreo is my favorite in a cone and it never fails to hit the spot. They also have a ton of options for flavors and toppings. Service - 5/5: Even when went as college students, late at night, the workers were always friendly and willing to help. Thomas Sweet also opens late (11 PM or 12 AM depending on the day) so definitely a huge plus if you're walking around Georgetown late at night and craving something sweet. Thomas Sweet is a nice ice cream parlor in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. I've visited a few times and there always seems to be a craze, but only because the inside of the parlor is small and tight. Normally I would drive by or stop in and the line would be out the door and shoulder to shoulder on the inside. However, I appreciate that the guys working here are very good at taking orders and keeping the line moving. This place has an exhaustive menu of ice cream flavors. You can sample flavors, too. They offer a good balance of traditional and novelty flavors. The ice cream in the freezer display is not labeled, which could be contributing to the delay when customers order as what they read on the menu might not be what they're eyeing in the freezer display which might cause a bit of confusion. They also offer a variety of serving sizes for their cups ranging from small to quart. The ice cream quality itself is standard. I wouldn't necessarily classify it as high-end ice cream. This place is the quintessential, nostalgic, ice cream parlor and the prices are commensurate. When visiting keep in mind this ice cream parlor is located on a residential street, parking is terrible. Give them a try. read more

It was a 90 degree weather day which obviously calls for an ice cream stop after walking around Georgetown and shopping. Thomas Sweet is a classic that I've heard so many good things about, and finally got to try it out. Since it was so hot, of course there was a line outside their building. There's both outdoor and indoor seating available, but luckily we were able to grab an inside table to escape the heat. Cash is preferred but credit and debit cards are taken for a $7 minimum purchase. There are so many flavors to choose from, and even frozen yogurt and vegan options as well. After choosing your flavor, you can decide between plain ice cream, sundaes, or milkshakes. There are also various cone options and toppings that can be added to truly have the most customizable experience. If you aren't interested in their ice cream they sell fresh homemade fudge as well. I went with chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chocolate chip in a cup. Even inside the store, the ice cream was melting quickly so I didn't want to deal with the mess of having a cone. Both flavors I got were delicious, but the cookie dough really stood out to me. The dough pieces were amazing and the vanilla ice cream was great. This is a great ice cream spot and will definitely be a new stop for our ice cream cravings next time we're in Georgetown! read more

Although the price is high for a regular cup, they are generous servings. I paid $8.50 for my medium cup, but there were 4 scoops of ice cream in there! They also have a variety of toppings you can add on, as well as sorbets, frozen yogurts, and cakes. Given how packed the place was, I thought the service was very efficient. It was delicious and well worth the price. It was both creamy and flavorful from the cookies and coffee. It wasn't too rich and thick as some other ice cream places that I've tried. It has a generous heap of Oreos and tasted Oreos in every bite to my delight! The coffee base is rich and a tad bitter, which works well to balance out the sweetness of the Oreos. If you're a fan of Oreos and coffee, go for it! The Cookie Monster flavor is delicious with a vanilla base speckled with 6 types of homemade cookies (Red Velvet, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Sugar, Macadamia). I could taste a morsel of cookie in every bite. The Oatmeal Raisin, Red Velvet & Peanut Butter had the boldest flavors. The Cake Batter Frozen yogurt is tasty and quite sweet and doesn't need any toppings. The rainbow sprinkles were a sugar overload and ended up removing them!I like the soft serve yogurt texture and couldn't even tell it was frozen yogurt. My husband enjoyed the double scoop of the Chocolate Chocolate Covered Almonds, which was quite chocolaty with a nice almond crunch. The ice cream was delicious and they give you plenty of scoops. There were so many flavors and I was intimidated to ask to taste any flavors because the line was out the door on a Monday. So I went with a classic cookies n cream with almonds and more Oreos. I think I got a medium size because the small looked tiny, but the medium had four scoops in it so that was a bit much.
