Lots of different flavors and seems to be a super popular ice cream shop after dinner! Thomas Sweet also opens late (11 PM or 12 AM depending on the day) so definitely a huge plus if you're walking around Georgetown late at night and craving something sweet. ONE SCOOP (NO TOPPINGS) - 5.55 After tax, it's about $6.10, but they give you two mini scoops here! My friend and I got the Oreo flavor to share. I thought there wasn't enough Oreos/cookies, but overall, still a great treat. The ice cream is also pretty smooth. Another pair of friends shared the tiramisu flavor, which I enjoyed more in terms of taste (and it's not as basic of an option)! Overall, would recommend. Next time, I'll definitely try a more unique flavor here. read more

Thomas Sweet - Oreo Ice Cream! - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

For an old fashioned ice cream that's been consumed by several presidents including Obama and Biden, this is the stop for ice cream in the DC area. Even on a rainy day, there were still people lining up for ice cream. I got the large size with mango and tiramisu. The mango was delicious with fresh mango flavor. It's not the best I've had because it doesn't have large mango chunks, but it's still worth the order. I also loved the light tiramisu flavor - something I can't get anywhere else. Definitely a spot to visit in the DC area and especially worth the trek to Georgetown. I'm still thinking of the ice cream there now that I'm back on the West Coast. read more

I've been going here since I went to school at GW back in 2015. There is a bit of lacking in the cleaniless department, however the portion sizes and taste are immaculate. Ambiance - 3/5: Seating both outside and inside, but nothing special about the ambiance of this place. Definitely some to be desired in terms of cleanliness. Price - 4/5: Not bad pricing for ice cream based on portion sizes but it is a tad bit expensive. Food - 5/5: If this review was just based on the food, then it would be a 5/5 for sure. The coffee oreo is my favorite in a cone and it never fails to hit the spot. They also have a ton of options for flavors and toppings. Service - 5/5: Even when went as college students, late at night, the workers were always friendly and willing to help. My only issue is with the cleanliness of the location which could be improved for sure. This place is a 3/5 only due to lack of a great ambiance and cleaning, however only based on food it is a 5/5 so take that as you will. read more

Was disappointed by this place. It was very overwhelming due the amount of people and extensive menu. Unfortunately, the ice cream was not very good. Do not understand the appeal. Pretty sure the employees just made up the prices because my group ordered the same thing on different tickets and each price was different. They were also extremely rude. Beware, there is a $10 minimum to pay with card. Additionally, the plasticware was gross and my partner cut his mouth open on a spoon. Also very dirty inside. read more

It's becoming less common to see a homemade ice cream/yogurt/sorbet shop these days. The staff was kind, you can tell they had a lot of pride in their work. Being lactose-in-tolerant, I can't tolerate ice cream very well, so when I see so many frozen yogurt choices, I get a giddy feeling, I just want to eat everything! My husband and I ordered a few flavors to go, and it was such a delicious creamy treat, walking up the streets of the heart of Georgetown, on a super hot summer day. I can't wait to visit again and give them my business. read more

I got peppermint, which is one of my favorite ice cream flavors (specifically if it has candy cane bits in it, which this did) that I look for in all the ice cream shops I go to. Very happy I was able to find it here. Coffee chip was also very good. Whole fam got a flavor they enjoy bc they offer many flavors. read more

It was a 90 degree weather day which obviously calls for an ice cream stop after walking around Georgetown and shopping. Thomas Sweet is a classic that I've heard so many good things about, and finally got to try it out. Since it was so hot, of course there was a line outside their building. There's both outdoor and indoor seating available, but luckily we were able to grab an inside table to escape the heat. Cash is preferred but credit and debit cards are taken for a $7 minimum purchase. There are so many flavors to choose from, and even frozen yogurt and vegan options as well. After choosing your flavor, you can decide between plain ice cream, sundaes, or milkshakes. There are also various cone options and toppings that can be added to truly have the most customizable experience. If you aren't interested in their ice cream they sell fresh homemade fudge as well. I went with chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chocolate chip in a cup. Even inside the store, the ice cream was melting quickly so I didn't want to deal with the mess of having a cone. Both flavors I got were delicious, but the cookie dough really stood out to me. The dough pieces were amazing and the vanilla ice cream was great. This is a great ice cream spot and will definitely be a new stop for our ice cream cravings next time we're in Georgetown! read more

Extremely disappointing experience at Thomas Sweet. I ordered the black raspberry sorbet specifically because I am a repeat customer and enjoyed it the last time I visited Thomas sweet. Instead, I was given the dairy-based black raspberry ice cream. I noticed right away and politely went back to let them know, expecting a simple swap for what I originally asked for. Shockingly, they refused to replace it. No apology, no willingness to make it right, just a dismissive attitude. My husband even went back with me to support me, and they told him, "well, we already gave her the ice cream," as if that justified ignoring a clear mistake that affected my dietary restrictions. mistakes happen but the refusal to take responsibility and the lack of basic customer service was upsetting. We won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who expects their order to be taken seriously or corrected if wrong. plus the prices are ridiculous - go here if you want to pay $7 for a kids size ice cream, with a side of terrible treatment. read more

I went here through a recommendation of my Lyft driver. He said the ice cream was good and the both Joe Biden and Obama went there. So obviously, J had to go. Run by two Indian guys. The ice cream was delicious and they give you plenty of scoops. There were so many flavors and I was intimidated to ask to taste any flavors because the line was out the door on a Monday. So I went with a classic cookies n cream with almonds and more Oreos. I think I got a medium size because the small looked tiny, but the medium had four scoops in it so that was a bit much. I ended up eating it all anyway because it was some of the best ice cream I could eat. They have cookies, plenty of toppings choices, frozen yogurt, and customized flavors. I will have to go back! read more

. There are lines out the door here year round for a reason T Sweets is a Georgetown staple, offering pretty much any time of ice cream you could want (flavor wise, hard vs soft serve, froyo, dairy free, etc.). Portions are generous here so you definitely get your money's worth just by the quantity but especially w the quality. They also have lots of fudge and chocolates which I haven't tried myself, but look beautiful! Be aware that they have a credit card minimum (it used to be $5, which id get around by adding sprinkles). There are limited tables inside/outside so if you come during popular hours then you can go across the street and climb the stairs of the park to find more benches if you'd like. Joe Biden used to come here often and it was a joke that Georgetown students would sometimes get lucky and leave w/ both a selfie w Joe and ice cream. read more

Thomas Sweet is a nice ice cream parlor in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. I've visited a few times and there always seems to be a craze, but only because the inside of the parlor is small and tight. Normally I would drive by or stop in and the line would be out the door and shoulder to shoulder on the inside. However, I appreciate that the guys working here are very good at taking orders and keeping the line moving. This place has an exhaustive menu of ice cream flavors. You can sample flavors, too. They offer a good balance of traditional and novelty flavors. The ice cream in the freezer display is not labeled, which could be contributing to the delay when customers order as what they read on the menu might not be what they're eyeing in the freezer display which might cause a bit of confusion. They also offer a variety of serving sizes for their cups ranging from small to quart. The ice cream quality itself is standard. I wouldn't necessarily classify it as high-end ice cream. This place is the quintessential, nostalgic, ice cream parlor and the prices are commensurate. When visiting keep in mind this ice cream parlor is located on a residential street, parking is terrible. Give them a try. read more

Some of the best ice cream I've had in DC! There are so many flavors to choose from and even though the line is usually out the door, they keep it moving. The cookies and cream, chocolate peanut butter, and coffee oreo flavors are exceptional! There is a surprisingly decent amount of indoor seating to escape the summer heat, and a few tables outside as well. Also, there are chocolates and candies you can buy that adds another fun element to the shop. read more

Thomas Sweet is a DC institution and a solid spot for some classic ice cream flavors. They offer a variety of flavors, and you'll always see the classics here. Although the price is high for a regular cup, they are generous servings. I paid $8.50 for my medium cup, but there were 4 scoops of ice cream in there! They also have a variety of toppings you can add on, as well as sorbets, frozen yogurts, and cakes. Given how packed the place was, I thought the service was very efficient. While it's not necessarily a spot I'd travel across the city to get to on its own, it's definitely a good neighborhood treat when I'm in Georgetown. read more

After filling our tanks with Greek food we needed to satisfy the sweet tooth. Some homeless guy with microwave on a skateboard said we need to be here. We waited in line for about 20 minutes where I heard a kid said " smell my finger". After I lost interest in that it was out time to order we saw the menu, it's like the Old Testament.... Soo many flavors I just told my wife to order and I will meet you at the register. Everybody got the flavor they wanted, except Aubrey, but I think she was still butt hurt from the fries at the Greek spot. When it's all said and done they have some cool flavors with many toppings and well worth the wait. And there is a picture of Joe Biden which made for interesting line conversation. read more

I think that like majority of the places in Georgetown this is over rated. The variety of flavors was fun however they have NO prices to indicate how much anything is going to cost you. The ice cream is a little mediocre here. It's not bad, but it is kinda lacking in flavor. Also, you can only try two flavors - which when the first two you try aren't great doesn't make you want to get a scoop. The coffee oreo is their "top seller" and it's not bad but again, lacks flavor. The service is just fine - but really if someone didn't like the two flavors they sampled it seems like you should let them try a third especially when there's no line. The ambiance is fine - a little sterile with three large cafeteria like tables stuffed on the side. There was also a flavor or two in the display with tons of ice crystals. read more

Georgetown has a popular place to get ice cream. It has been there a long time and is a favorite. Thomas Sweet has a few locations. Maybe this one is the best. You can get basic or more exotic flavors. Has a lot of good ice cream. It also has a few sorbets with no dairy. The last time they had black raspberry sorbet. It's about $5 for a medium cup. This isn't cheap but it's good quality. It was dense. They pack a lot in. Good value for what you get. They also have treats like ice cream sandwiches and more. It still is one of my favorite places in Georgetown. It's still a popular place to hang out. There's not that much room inside but there's outside tables. read more

Still so yummy! My favorite is still coffee Oreo! Love the freshly made waffle cones too. I will stop by when I'm in DC.

Simply delicious ice cream. Thomas Sweet has a gazillion ice cream flavors that you can choose from, and out of all of them, I went with the coffee oreo ice cream on top of a waffle cone (~$6). It was delicious and well worth the price. It was both creamy and flavorful from the cookies and coffee. It wasn't too rich and thick as some other ice cream places that I've tried. I went with friends on a weekday night, and there were a good amount of people waiting outside for some ice cream. Overall, a must try if you're in Georgetown! read more

Thomas Sweet - Coffee Oreo - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

While Gtown cupcakes is swarming with lines and Dough Jar and crepes are the new craze, my go to dessert spot is Thomas Sweet tucked up on the hillside away from the touristy crowds! I love the homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt with lots of delicious fun flavors. My favorite flavor is the Coffee Oreo, reminds me of Mocha. It has a generous heap of Oreos and tasted Oreos in every bite to my delight! The coffee base is rich and a tad bitter, which works well to balance out the sweetness of the Oreos. If you're a fan of Oreos and coffee, go for it! The Cookie Monster flavor is delicious with a vanilla base speckled with 6 types of homemade cookies (Red Velvet, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Sugar, Macadamia). I could taste a morsel of cookie in every bite. The Oatmeal Raisin, Red Velvet & Peanut Butter had the boldest flavors. The Cake Batter Frozen yogurt is tasty and quite sweet and doesn't need any toppings. The rainbow sprinkles were a sugar overload and ended up removing them!I like the soft serve yogurt texture and couldn't even tell it was frozen yogurt. My husband enjoyed the double scoop of the Chocolate Chocolate Covered Almonds, which was quite chocolaty with a nice almond crunch. The Chocolate Chip Mint is pretty tasty, I'll take his word for it! The staff is really nice and accommodating. It's so sweet that this local shop is tucked away from the bustling M street with hardly any lines. Best spot for ice cream in Gtown! read more

They were unfortunately out of quite a few flavors but they have a lot to choose from to begin with. It would've been nice to have signs on the menu when they run out of a certain flavor or item.
