84 Lumber

We were planning on buying a huge amount of lumber from 84 in Westminster. We left with the first…read morebunch and came back for more and they wouldn't untie the next pallet right underneath some pieces that we already looked through with a sales associate and said they weren't good pieces. They didn't care to lose out on over $800 in sales. Beyond ridiculous.

I have recently had a house built by a local builder that used 84 lumber to purchase our home…read morepackage. I'm still within the first year of the home being built and we've been having issues with all the interior and exterior doors. One location in particular was the rear French doors. These doors have been leaking through the glass pane since before the project was completed. The builder said they have addressed the issue before closing. Since it was not raining during the walk-through I cannot confirm whether the doors had been fixed or not. After moving in, we got our first rain and the doors around the window pain started leaking again onto the wood floors and buckle them. I have called the builder and Steve Forbes with 84 lumber multiple times about these defective doors and to no avail I have not gotten the doors replaced yet. Steve says to call the builder the builder says the call Steve. I'm not sure what the standard process is for 84 lumber to replace defective material but I know it can't be this. To other potential homeowners out there getting a house built. Please confirm where your builder/carpenter are purchasing their home package from, if they say 84 lumber of Westminster. Require them to purchase from another home package provider or just not the one in Westmister.

I saw other reviews calling for Susan Keeney's firing. Here are my thoughts based on my experience…read morein dealing with her and this this company: 1 - Susan won't be fired because indifference to customers appears to be the company standard. 2 - Chuck Gray is no better. I requested a call back--nothing. Silence. I can't wait for his reply to this review! 3 - The experience: Susan quoted me $125/hour and $200 for a site visit to measure for a deck and patio plan. She arrived late, spent roughly an hour measuring, and then demanded $600. The neighborhood must've given her the impression that she could pull that off. When I politely questioned this by email, she never responded. She charged my card anyway and then ignored four weeks of emails and calls--except for the one time I called from a different number. 4 - The core issues: * Deceptive pricing - quoting one rate, charging another. * Zero communication - after taking payment, there was no progress, no updates, nothing. This is not just poor service; it's a pattern of unethical business practices. In my opinion, Susan had no intention of completing the project. 5 - I am filing formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Maryland State Attorney's Consumer Protection Division. I strongly encourage others with similar experiences to do the same. Companies like this only change when they are forced to.

Relics - Architectural Salvage

Richard Blacksten and his wife had me crazy with desire to buy something, anything, from them…read more They are so charming, so friendly, so knowledgeable that I wanted some little part of the Relics - even though I had absolutely no need for anything in there. Relics is not so much architectural salvage as it is wood. Wood, old wood, raw wood, live edge wood, exotic wood, wood from homes built in the 1700's, bricks from buildings that are a part of the history of the State of Maryland, doors of every size and shape - even a casket handmade by Mr. Blacksten himself. Handmade tables - if it's wood, it is here! If you need wood for anything - whether it's decorative or utilitarian - this is definitely the place to go. The location we went to (417 McKinstrys Mill Road) is only a small portion of his inventory; he says that he has lots more wood back at his farm. And Mr. Blacksten will know a lot about anything you see there. He remembers where it came from, how he salvaged it, what is unique about the wood, and on and on. His stories and recollections were interesting and often funny. He is a real character in the best sense of the word. I truly enjoyed the time I spent at Relics and I am so disappointed that I could not find anything to buy. At the end of the conversation, Mr. Blacksten insisted that we take an old hand made nail; he just gave it to us! Where can you find someone so nice and pleasant anymore? Right at Relics in Union Bridge. I will be back to Relics at some point because I know I will have a need for wood and I will NOT go to anyone else for beautiful wood. If you can't find what you want at Relics, you simply cannot find it anywhere - along with a good conversation and a laugh or two.

Clayland Marble & Tile

When I attempted to return un opened boxes of tile he ( same man who sold materials) said that we were over 30 days out and they would not accept the return. Nice products, but 'customer service' was severely lacking in the partial answer to a very specific question. Had he answered completely, I could have easily returned the materials within 30 days, but waited as I continued with other tasks.

We asked about pricing and were given a sq ft price for each tile. On your second visit to finalize our selection and go over layout Bill was a bit grumpy and impatient. We also confirmed the sq ft price of the tile we selected and he started throwing different pricing around that was higher than our first visit, in the end he agreed to the original price. My wife did not getting a good feeling and we should have gone somewhere else, but we decided to stay the course as we liked the tile we found. Our contractor went to Clayland and order our tile, paid for it and brought it to our job. Our contractor did a great job and the tile looks great. When it came time to settle up on our last payment we had a $500 dollar overage on the tile purchase then what our projected budget. Obviously, we were not very happy about this, I could expect a slight difference than the projected budget, but 500 dollars. It ended up that he was only quoting us on one size tile and never gave us the price for the other sizes, sham on us for not getting that, but as a "professional in the business for over 15 years" I thought he would have given us the price for each tile size we used. Bottom line if you use Clayland makes sure you get your pricing up front in writing for each tile size you will be using so that you don't get hit with a big bill at the end of the job.
