I loved how easy the meals were to throw in the skillet and heat up, but eventually, the meal choices were sparse- meaning the variety wasn't there. 90% of the meals also had either rice or pasta, which I don't eat. $14 for mainly spinach, rice and beans just isn't worth it. I commented at least three times about how I am allergic to chickpeas; yet, I continued to receive meals with chickpeas in them. The chicken chunks were often dry and lacked any flavor whatsoever. That being said, the desserts were phenomenal!!! I also had an issue with the delivery- most of the time it was at the right address on time, but once it went to a different building entirely, and only 40% of the time, did their delivery guys ever pick up my empty bags & ice packs- even when leaving them right in front of the door. With that, I am canceling my subscription for a company who listens to its' customers dietary needs, has meat with the juice left and variety. I hope that you can include a place for people with allergies to write in what they are (and they are actually read) so no one else has to to deal with what I did. read more

Not very good customer service support. The delivery times for the meals are only between 8pm to 11pm at night, two days a week, and on my first week's delivery I received a text promptly at 8pm to let me know where I was in the delivery drop off order. I was so impressed. That never happened again in the following 4 weeks I ordered from them. It became more and more frustrating because I had such high expectations. Text notifications were very inconsistent and it became hard for me to have to be waiting around for those 3 hours wondering when I would get a notification for delivery. I expressed my irritation and disappointment to customer support and have not heard anything back from Them. Very disheartening because I was so enthusiastic to continue ordering from them. read more

We used Thistle for a few months. While the food was tasty and healthy, if a bit expensive, the customer service was atrocious. We recently cancelled our subscription only to receive an unexpected order the next week. Then, a few days later after that, we get a text that a deliver driver is on his way with another "order", which turned out to be a random selection of foods. The company's website does not provide a phone number to call, so I wrote an email explaining what happened and that we had already cancelled our membership the previous week and that we should not continue to get charged. The next day I received an email, explaining that it was our fault we didn't cancel by Thursday at midnight prior to the next week's order. Wrong. We had cancelled two weeks prior. Thistle, take responsibility for your actions. Regardless of industry, companies are only as good as their customer service. Will never use this company again. read more

I've just cancelled my subscription after 4 weeks on this meal plan. Some of the food is good, some not so much. For me, the deal breaker is their terrible delivery service. Most of the salads are good, but a few of them are just weird combinations with a one or two ingredients that completely overpower the flavor profile. The dinner meals I tried were pretty much same as the lunch salads, but with more carbs and less greens. The breakfast items are just ok, but overpriced for what you get. By the second week it gets redundant. My deliverieis all came Sundays and Wednesdays between 10-11:00 at night. I'm and early riser so I'm usually asleep by 10. Usually the guy would leave it next to the front porch where it would sit until morning. I didn't like that even a little, but the ice packs kept it cold enought. Last night the idiot driver was too lazy to walk up a few stairs to my porch. He just stashed the bag in the bushes next to the sidewalk. This morning it was ruined. Totally covered with ants and soaking wet from sprinklers that go on at 5am. No response from customer service. If I don't hear back by tomorrow I will have to dispute the credit card charge. read more

This *could* be cost effective because the dinners *could* potentially feed TWO people with lighter appetite. 2 stars Holy f$@!, a smoothie also costs $11 or more. Who buys smoothies for $11 each???? Also, $11 salads. -3 stars The packaging. So.Much.Plastic. AND--the drivers just throw away the cooler containers and ice packs because they leak in their cars. So all those "green" carriers are going into the landfill and not reused. Also, So.Much.Plastic. -3stars Convenience of not having to steam, cook, prep, chop, wash: 4 stars. So basically if you can afford spending $11 for EACH meal (breakfast, lunch dinner) for ONE person ($33/day x 5 days = $165 week, or $660/month on groceries for ONE person, not including weekends) then I would say it's awesome. Hi fellow Yelpers! I'm compelled to write this review because of the excellent service I've received. My girlfriend and I have been using Thistle for close to a year now. We absolutely love it. We are both vegan and they have a vegan option. We order one lunch and one dinner every day for 5 days a week. This will bring down the cost per meal significantly if you order in bulk like that. Secondly, we had a mishap with one of our deliveries and the food was stolen, most likely by a vagrant. Well, Thistle was able to re-deliver the food same day and I didn't have to eat a sub-par Chipolte burrito! Yay! Thistle's food is very healthy, and it is full of plant based protein. There are dark leafy greens full of calcium and nutrients. Its hard to say how much better I feel because frankly I don't think about how I feel anymore, I just do things. Before I used to have headaches, or feel tired, I even had chest pain in my heart area, I assume from all the fatty foods I was eating before. My chest pain is gone now - I'm not kidding. Thistle is well worth the money, convenience, and time saved. By not cooking I save hours and hours every week, allowing me to focus on improving myself, studying for my career, or helping others in need. The food looks nothing like the leaflets they mail out that is 100% for sure. The food is always meh with so much left to be desired as far as taste and seasonings. By the time I'm done adding ingredients to make the meals palatable, I could have made a meal from scratch. The prices are quite unreasonable for what you receive. I have been through their menu rotation multiple times and tried everything they offer. I always end up feeling shortchanged and underwhelmed. I read the reviews here before signing up and took my chances because the food looked to be the best quality among the other services for what I was looking for. But the company has been true to the reviews! Lack of consistency with deliveries has really been so frustrating. The food from thistle is delicious and I have not yet had anything I disliked. I genuinely am excited to eat everything they send because the variety keeps it interesting and the flavors are so good! *(I should say that I eat the plant based meals). That said I do not know what half of the meals would have been like as I now 3 times (in 1 month) have not gotten my delivery! The first time it went to the wrong address and I forgave it as I live in an apartment complex that is very big and the numbers are not easy to read, and they delivered at 1am in the morning so I can understand being confused. But the 2nd and 3rd time I simply got text notifications that my meals would be unable to be delivered. I'm still waiting to find out why this 3rd time happened, but the 2nd time was due to a personal emergency with the delivery driver. I'm a teacher and I bring these meals for lunch and then also for dinner for those late nights at school grading and prepping. I really rely on the ease of the meals so that I do not need to spend extra time shopping, cooking, etc. The most frustrating is not being able to speak to anyone at this company. I get automated emails and even when I put my number and ask them to call I only get an email back. Sure they credit my account and don't charge when a delivery doesn't make it, but I didn't sign up to play the guessing game on if I'll have food in the morning when I wake up (since they deliver between 10pm and 2am)... I'm just very disappointed with the professionalism of this company and that they do not try harder to please all of their customers. If they are overwhelmed with business and deliveries to the places further from San Francisco are not as manageable then they should back off on offering food to so many locations. I will likely quit for my sanity, but would definitely rejoin if the delivery gets 100% better. I'm in love! I heard about Thistle through a friend and decided to try it out during the Coronavirus quaratine. I tried 2 other meal delivery services in the past (Munchery, which folded, and Factor75), but the meals were too bulky and not aligned with my high standards. I feel like I've struck gold with Thistle! I chose the vegan option and absolutely love the meals. They are fresh, tasty, healthy and guilt-free. I feel like I am enriching my body with fresh foods from the earth and I am full and satisfied after every single meal. Operationally, Thistle is very buttoned up. They are on time, provide SMS communication with clients and their app and website interface operate smoothly. I haven't reached out to customer service yet because the technology has taken care of everything I need. In the past 2 weeks, since signing up, I have felt energized, happy and fulfilled after each meal. My stomach pain, which I have been dealing with for months now, has gone away. Thistle has seriously saved my marriage. I love to cook but it had become a chore and an endless battle with my husband. I switched to Thistle so I wouldn't have to have the "what's for dinner" conversation every night. Seriously...marriage saved. Ok down to business: THE FOOD: Being that I love to cook myself I didn't have high expectations but I have to admit I have been pleasantly surprised! (I am on my 4th week). ALL the ingredients and meals have been organic, fresh and delicious. I love the variety of vegetables I get and my favorite part is the flavor! They could probably sell their dressings alone and I could eat it on cardboard! I am doing the vegan lunch and dinners 5 days a week and I get my husband the meat option. I think the meat to veggie ratio is balanced. It is always organic and he says it tastes great. THE PACKAGING: I like that the containers are sealed. I think that helps keep the meals fresh. My salads are always crunchy and great and the soups have never spilled out in transit. I love that it has the ingredients, calorie breakdown and cooking instructions on the label. THE PRICE: For $11 - $13 a meal really no one should be leaving bad comments ever! It's a great price point for ORGANIC food and delivery is FREE. I mean you can't do it for any less than that. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE: I have known a couple people in the food industry who have tried to break into this personal delivery service market. I think it's a tough business. How do you make organic food at a price point that people will pay for but still make enough money to run a business? It isn't easy and there are bound to be hiccups along the way. Yet how those hiccups are handled sets the platform for your company and I have to say I was impressed. As others mentioned, I had a little hiccup with one of my deliveries. I received the first two weeks great no problems but one of my Monday deliveries went MIA. I was so sad for my food I seriously walked my entire block looking for it. I even waited a few more hours hoping that maybe there was a mix up and the driver would bring it back. At any rate it never showed. I emailed Thistle and was surprised when I got a response back almost instantly. They helped me relay additional info to the delivery people...like a google street view of my house...and refunded my money for the lost meals. THE SIDE EFFECTS: I went into this solely to avoid fighting with my husband about food. Unfortunately delivery has really gone downhill. I either don't receive my food because it was left in some random location or the delivery is delayed so much that I am no longer home to collect it. Customer service is very responsive and usually credits deliveries that were not received. However I'm still left without food on that day. I use the service for convenience and being stressed about when, where, or if the delivery is coming makes it actually more stressful than just going to Erewhon or something. I've been getting Thistle delivered for a little over a month now and I love it. The food is delicious and every delivery has been in the time window and I haven't had one thing messed up since my service started. I really like that you can edit your subscription if you're getting 4 days of service (2 meals a days) delivered. Sometimes a meal won't appeal to me as much but I always see a breakfast that will be good for a meal and just exchange it out. Besides being vegetarian I'm not a picky eater or have any other allergies or restrictions so this really works for me. I don't like cooking or grocery shopping at all and this is just soo easy. I get meals delivered Monday and Wednesday (normally just the lunch + dinner) and it's perfect. I even think I've lost a little weight since I started using Thistle, although that wasn't really the intention. The food is actually quite good. My rating has to do primarily with the delivery issues for local deliveries. It has become a regular occurring problem, about every other week or so, my delivery window is delayed in LA. Be careful if you live in a gated building and need to buzz the delivery in, they may change your window to 1am. Customer service is courteous and will attempt to fix the issue with a credit of sort, but that does not negate the fact that an unreliable food delivery company isn't worth good customer service. Great food but delivery is a MESS. I have been a thistle customer on and off (mostly on) since 2017. I have ordered 6 lunches and 6 dinners per week the entire time I've used their services (and sometimes snacks, but they're pricey). The food is great and helps me get my nutritional needs met, which is super important for me as I have some chronic health issues - cooking often becomes painful for me, and I have high nutrtional needs to keep my health issues in check. It's super fresh, has enough variety to keep me satisfied, and has a high amount of fiber and protein (both plant and, if you add meat, sustainable animal protein). The delivery, however, is another story entirely. TLDR - if you live anywhere where you need to leave even the slightest/shortest of instructions for them, don't bother with this service. From 2017- 2022, even though all they needed was a building code to get into my building, they still left the food outside half the time because... they couldn't be bothered to read instructions? I truly don't know. I moved several months ago, and needed to leave more detailed instructions. The first set of instructions asked them to call me if the gate was closed and to not just leave the food on the street... once again, mostly couldn't be bothered. The second set added some detail, but the food was still mostly being left on the street or was MIA. This third set, per thistle's request, includes maybe 10 pictures of the path they need to take (just in case, because cleaaaarly there are issues). I received deliveries as requested for maybe 2 weeks, and now they are MIA again. Look thistle, I know you probably have a lot of customers and whatnot, but you are a food delivery service! The food is on point but you need to do better with the delivery part. Especially now that you are charging us for every single delivery! You need to keep in mind that there are several reasons you may not be aware of that inform why your customers leave instructions - disability, age, mobility issues, etc. If you are going to offer delivery to a place of our choice, then deliver it to that place. At this point, less than 5 months at my new address, these deliveries have become a source of stress for me. So if the next delivery is also MIA, I'm canceling my subscription for good. I absolutely love the Thistle meals. The food is great. However- I find the delivery times incredibly inconvenient. 8-11 pm and 4 am to 7 am. I'd assume majority of people don't want someone showing up at their house at 11 pm or 4 am? I've given this feedback to the team before - I often struggle to stay away for the deliveries and lose sleep, which takes the convenience out of the whole thing. Additionally, there's almost no communication about receipts, charges, reminders to pick meals, updates on when the delivery is coming. Unless the customer is vigilant about setting reminders themselves, Thistle really won't do any of the leg work there. Please improve this! I am obsessed with Thistle and I'm neither a vegan nor easy to please with food! What I am is health conscious and want my food free of gmos, insecticides/pesticides/hormones etc. This said, I love eating cleanly but also want to feel fulfilled and enjoy a delicious and flavorful meal. Thistle meets all of the above. Their food is super fresh, thoughtfully prepared (always great variety and full of flavor) and simple to heat. I love hot meals so get their dinners 6 nights a week and then half them to use the leftovers for my lunch. You have the option to add protein or you can cook your own at home and add it (this is what my fiancé does:). I also always get their snacks - sooo good and a responsible way to get your sweets in. I just finished my second week of food and it's been great! Im receiving 3 days worth of food- 3 lunches, 3 dinners and 3 juices. I'm not normally a breakfast person so I opted for the juice to start my day. I recently started a gentle detox and wanted to incorporate well rounded meals I didn't have to think about. After a long day and battling LA traffic to get home, thinking about what to eat is more challenging than it should be. As a vegan who works in the vegan food industry I was pleasantly surprised and really appreciate the dedication to organic ingredients. It's an important factor for me when I shop at the grocer and no less important when someone else prepares the food that goes into my body. My deliveries have shown up on time without issue. The food is fresh and tasty. The variety keeps it interesting and I look forward to checking out their site and viewing next weeks meals- and even further into the future! So far so good! I'm really thankful a couple friends told me about thistle. Not sure I would have found them on my own! As for the plastic the items come in, I am taking the couple minutes it requires to wash all plastic and recycle it, in hopes it is in fact recycled. Finding sealed eco products that can hold up is more challenging than one might think, so I give thistle an A for effort. The ramekins appear to be eco product type "plastic". I live in a unique situation (Artist collective) in Santa Ana. After talking to THISTLE's kind customer service we conceived a plan of action, which includes a lockbox and a code specifically for them. I am so happy to say, every delivery has made it through the gauntlet so far without a hitch. This service has changed my world. The menu is diverse and hearty. I have an auto immune disease that requires organic and plant based foods only. This service has taken on all the heavy lifting for me!!! Thistle is a bit pricey, but generally pretty good and healthy and convenient. But their meals start to taste pretty similar after a while and they are very quinoa heavy. They also have very limited allergy options and you have to change your orders really far in advance to avoid them. I've had to contact customer service several times. You can only leave a message, which is annoying! If you are able to speak with someone, they tend to be be helpful. But their email responses leave a lot to desired. So, five stars for convenience, 4 stars for the food, 3 stars for the price and the long lead time to cancel or make changes to your order 2 stars for their limited allergy options. read more
