We've been ordering from Thistle for nearly three months now, and we absolutely love it. The convenience, variety, and--most importantly--the taste of the food have all exceeded our expectations. The lunches are especially great if you bring food to work. There's a fantastic variety, and everything feels fresh and genuinely healthy. The dinners are just as impressive and are a much healthier alternative to what's typically available locally. We've tried other meal delivery services in the past, but this one stands out as the best fit for us. Between the wide selection, the twice-weekly delivery, and the consistently delicious meals, it really checks all the boxes. As an added bonus, since switching to Thistle, I've actually lost 5 pounds--which speaks volumes about how healthy and well-balanced the meals are. Food was pretty good- not always a ton of options I was crazy about, but a really good balance of healthy and being flavorful. My gripe is with their ordering system. We went to order for week one, and it was not super clear that there's 2 SEPARATE orders for week one. Our read was that it was one order spread across 2 deliveries... so we got a ton of food monday, and then got even more when it auto-selected a bunch of things and sent it for delivery WITHOUT any notification of 'make your picks' or 'order confirmed'. After getting more food, I canceled the next mondays order to avoid even more food and to hopefully chat with customer support to see what happened. Work got busy so I didnt get the chance to do that, and came back to it this morning to find that another order was auto-placed without any notification. They wont cancel, refund or take ownership of their trash system, so I'm out and wouldn't recommend them on this alone. There's other gripes/very easy wins to improve their ordering system, but it's not worth solving their problems since they clear stand by their system enough to lose a customer over it. read more

I would have loved to keep ordering from them but I cant deal with spinach in almost every single meal, I always would choose my meals every week and in the description it would say {seasonal greens or spinach and 98% of the time it ends up being spinach! I wrote emails every week and would get the same AI response and a few times was able to connect with a senior support advisor, I would ask them why does every meal except a couple of salads always come with spinach answer would be this: Thank you for the follow up, Shawn! I'm sorry it's been so tough to select meals without spinach, and know that our current labeling makes it difficult. Candidly, we changed our labeling maybe a year or so ago to use the more inclusive "or seasonal greens" terminology as we have certain greens sourcing standards (we strongly prefer to offer organic greens) and many weeks, we found that our ability to source the specific green stated on the label would change, and a new green would need to be used. This resulted in very frequent customer communication about a change to the upcoming meal and was a poor customer experience, based on the feedback we received. We truly do source what is seasonal, and as it stands now, that will be spinach frequently. We don't have a great way to differentiate before the meal is delivered, though we do strive to include the green type listed before the "or seasonal greens" ingredient We really appreciate your patience with this! Let me know if I can help answer any other questions. All I asked is if they would not add spinach in any of my meals and they said it could not be done, I asked If Could speak to the owners of the company and the response was No you cant! My lady has been ordering from them for over a year now and 95% of the meals have spinach! She is over it too and ends up just dumping it in the trash ....Spinach is full of oxalates and causes major inflammation and kidney stones, One or two meals a couple of times a week is fine but everyday all day..Come on!! I am enjoying their salads. Eating more greens and kickstarting healthier habits. I have never eaten so much raw spinach in my life. Have to be careful about added sugars and carbs so I read ingredient list carefully. Most of their sweets have too much sugar for me. Wish they had more variety and less sugar. read more

My wife discovered a 3/4" cricket on her fork while eating a salad from Thistle. She's currently vomiting in the bathroom. Unfortunately I had a bad experience and had to cancel my subscription right after I got my first delivery. As a vegetarian and big vegan enthusiast their food does not taste good at all - Salads and dinner specially. I don't know what's wrong with their veggies but just does not taste right. Salads are usually delicious regardless. The veggies taste like they just came out of the freezer and tossed in the box. Plus, it is not cheap so I expected more. I am very disappointed. read more

I love Thistle so far! I've only received one order, but I'll update this review if anything changes after my next few. I came to Thistle after using Factor for over a year off and on, and so far, Thistle is MILES above Factor on all fronts. With Factor, I had delivery issues almost every week - delays, missing items, damaged packaging, etc. Not to mention, Factor's food is literally slop. I saw Thistle mentioned in a Reddit sub and thought I'd give it a try. I was a bit nervous about the delivery because I live in a large apartment complex, but I left thorough instructions about how to find my apartment, and the delivery was dropped off with no problems! Every meal I've had from Thistle has been fresh, filling, and tasty. The portion sizes are nice and big, and I feel great after eating these meals. Food is great and convenient especially for working folks. But their delivery service...or whoever they outsource to SUCKS. They can't seem to figure out how to punch in a gate code and follow instructions. So for the most recent delivery today they left the bag outside on the street. When I went to retrieve it, surprise surprise, it was gone. When I emailed to complain they first stated that the neighbor's dog was on my property and was threatening the driver. Then they said the neighbors dog was out and was threatening and sent me a photo. A photo that clearly shows a dog that is FAR away from my property. Furthermore their logic makes no sense. A dog...several feet away...scares the driver. But instead of getting out of the car and opening the gates and pulling his car onto my property where he would be safe he chooses to stand outside his car and outside the gates where (even tho the dog is clearly far away from him) he could get...as he claims...attacked. Instead of admitting that they did not follow instructions and did not do their job, they clearly chose to go deeper down a hole with lies and falsehoods despite the facts that disprove their excuse. If this is how they treat customers (now ex customers) it is SHAMEFUL and Thistle should not be in business! Had they simply accepted blame and apologized I would have continued my business with them. If Thistle treats all their customers like this then I can't imagine it will be around much longer. read more

The food is great but oh my god I don't know what service they hire for delivery but it has made my entire Thistle experience absolutely awful!!! First, the delivery people aren't smart enough to figure out a basic call box system. You search my name or unit number and it buzzes me and I open the door. Simple- every other delivery person gets this (UPS, fedex etc) When I edit the instructions in the app, there was a bug that changed the drop off coordinates so my food 3 separate times was left at the wrong location and there was no way to get in contact with anyone and the food was stolen. I mistakenly put my personal phone number in the instructions to prevent my food getting left at the wrong place and stolen and the delivery people call me every single time (despite clear call box instructions) asking me questions like where to park/how to pay for parking. Like COME ON. Besides the delivery NIGHTMARE, multiple orders had missing food. They make no attempt to bring you the food you ordered and paid for and simply give you a refund for the meals and a $10 "we're sorry" credit. I have been ordering Thistle weekly since December 2024 and I am a huge fan. The cost is affordable for me as a single person. I was vegan for many years, and while I do eat dairy and fish now, I am plant-based most days of the week. My favorite meals are the breakfast, dinner, and snacks/desserts. Unfortunately, the salads usually arrive wilted for me so I don't order them often. Each time I have reached out for help the customer service has been prompt. They offer a credit when something is damaged. The delivery drivers struggle in complex areas, but 99% of the time the service is fine. I feel healthy and enjoy my food immensely with Thistle. Awful. It's all AI-driven and you can't speak to anyone to resolve your problem. I started a subscription 6 days ago. It was a Thursday night, which is also the last night to cancel a delivery for the following Thursday. I received my first delivery on Sunday. Then tonight (Wednesday) I got a text that they were delivering more food this evening! I had no notice that it was coming. I didn't even know what it was going to cost, since last week was a discount. I tried every possible way to contact them to let them know I was not going to accept the delivery. The email address they provide is non-functioning. I finally submitted my complaint on their website because their app doesn't work either. The only response I received was from AI. I also tried to cancel the subscription but that doesn't seem to be an option either. I wrote to them to let them know I was cancelling but I don't know if it will be accepted. I have been using Thistle on and off since 2020. I have had the following experience: 1. Service - excellent. Never missed a delivery and driver never fails to pick up my bag. 2. Some of the meals are 5 stars and I like most of their breakfasts. 3. I had a family emergency after the cut off period (on a Saturday) back in 2020. I emailed customer service and they were able to stop the order for me as it was too late for the ap. 4. Food has always been fresh. Very impressive. 5. I am happy they cut down on the garlic as it was way overpowering in most of the meals. What I would like to see: I agree after a while even though they try to add new items, they do all start to taste the same and I am no longer enthused. I think just because all the meals are basically protein bowls and I like different things (soups, tacos, lasagne, Veggie burgers). The food is delicious and pretty filling. My delivery was always on time. Very fresh ingredients. I never had any issues. You have the option of using the salad dressing or not using it. You can always make your own salad dressing as well, but I always use their salad dressing. Their snacks are delicious as well. I've been very impressed. read more

I was a previous Thistle customer in 2023 for about 6 months. For the most part I really liked their food, found it fresh and a decent variety. In the time I was a customer I had countless issues with my food deliveries. Almost weekly there were missing items or completely missing deliveries. Customer serivce was always prompt at refunds or credits but never would deliver the food I was due to receive. This left me without meals and having to scramble to figure out what to eat. I canceled my subscription due to the constant frustration. Fast forward to today, I decided to give it another shot and had assumed within 2 years and with tons of reviews speaking to delivery issues, Thistle would have improved. My first order is missing 5 out of 10 items. I thought perhaps a bag was missing but received an email apologizing, saying I wouldn't be receiving 2 (not 5) items from my order. So here I am yet again without meals I have paid for being offered a "credit" to my account. I don't want a credit, I want the food I ordered and consistent delivery and fulfillment. How this company can still be in business is beyond me. If they can't rectify my delivery and show consistency in fulfillment I will once again have to cancel. So infuriating. read more

Ok I'm not sure why all these reviews were so negative. I almost didn't go through with my order because of these but I decided to give it a go and I'm so glad I did. I am generally extremely sensitive to stale or smelly food and I was hesitant giving the nature of ingredients and the current heat advisory however everything was delivered in a timely manner. I do wish they had a piece of paper with the daily menu plans , and less calorie options as well as most other meal deliveries do so I don't have to keep referring back to website to see what I need to eat but so far, their meals are humongous. I can't finish them even if I tried , they are tasty and made with fresh, crisp, ingredients. I really hope their quality doesn't go down like some other meal delivery places do . read more

When I got pregnant, my husband and I looked into Thistle as an easy way to introduce more nutritious, plant-based foods into our diets. I had briefly subscribed to Sakara about a year ago, but found it far too expensive to justify. Thistle seemed to be almost exactly the same as Sakara, but significantly cheaper, so we gave it a shot. The first week, I was extremely impressed. The meals, which were delivered straight to my apartment door via contactless delivery, were tasty (on par or better than Sakara, without exception), and the company said the bags and ice packs would be picked up by the delivery person for reuse, which appealed to my desire to reduce the packaging waste involved in procuring my food/groceries. It soon became apparent, however, that the delivery team would almost never take the empty bags, even though I placed them very conspicuously on my doorstep. Thinking at first it was an honest mistake, I made a note in the delivery instructions, but that, too, was ignored. To be clear, the bags themselves have written instructions on them telling the customer to leave them out for pickup, so this is supposedly baked into the service. I reached out to customer service, who were apologetic and helpful. They said they would arrange for the delivery team to undergo a training refresher on bag pickup, but the issue persisted in increasingly creative ways. It was puzzling and deeply frustrating. Within a single month, I ended up writing to customer service twice to try to get my bags picked up as promised, and then a third time to notify them of my cancellation, because the message was not getting through to the delivery team despite my efforts. Anecdotally, the concierge of our building told us she often receives Thistle deliveries on behalf of other residents, and when she tries to give the empty bags to the delivery team in person, they refuse to take them outright. So, either Thistle is engaged in blatant greenwashing and lying about this eco-friendly aspect of their service, or they have contracted a delivery team that is weirdly hell-bent on not doing their job. In either case, it was kind of exhausting to deal with and left an overall negative impression on me. It's a shame, because the food really was as tasty and healthy as advertised. Update - The response from Customer Service left much to be desired: "Looking into the issue, our driver was unable to locate your order for delivery. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a redelivery at this time. I am so sorry for the disappointing news." I have asked for a refund because without much in the way of an explanation for why my order was out for delivery but then undeliverable, I have little confidence that they will be able to delivery my next order and I do not want to count on it. It seems like other customers have dealt with the same issue. I'm really disappointed by my first attempt to order meals from Thistle. When I made the order, I put my contact information and wrote in the delivery instructions that the driver should contact me when they arrive. I received a text that the driver was on the way and waited in my apartment to receive a text or call. instead I got a text message from Thistle stating that my delivery was cancelled and marked as unable to deliver. The driver did not even attempt to follow the instructions and contact me- I guess that they drove to my block, saw that I live in an apartment building, and decided it wasn't worth it. I'm guessing that all of the food went to waste too, seeing as they cancelled the order when the food was in the process of being delivered. I've never had this happen with another delivery service and it's pretty baffling how a meal delivery company can remain in business if this is how they operate. thieves... i was charged for orders that were never shipped. you can't reach anyone by phone. i sent messages through their poor/unfriendly website. i let them know i was not interested in my next delivery which was already charged on my cc. they did not deliver the food...but kept my money. i received 3 salads. was charged $18, $57 and $114 . this is not a professional business/ service. i am a physician/business owner for over 22 years... i have never dealt with this level of incompetence. food is average at best. couldn't justify spending $17 + on salads per meal plus delivery! read more

I like the convenience of Thistle, but I have to agree with other comments that the ingredients are repetitive, lots of spinach and also those pea crumbles are in many things. At this point they all taste the same to me and I could not eat everything in my last order because it all tasted the same. If you are into leftovers, as in eating the same food every day without a lot of taste variety, then this might work out for you. It's now been 2 weeks in a row that my delivery does not come without notice. When I contacted them last week they apologized and credited my Thistle account. This week they said they were unable to deliver my meals due to a road closure, which is a complete LIE! There are no road closures in my area. I called the City to confirm and actually drove down to ensure this was true I have made 2 requests to be provided a phone number to call or have a manager call me and they are not being responsive. My husband and I absolutely love this service. The food is fantastic, great quality, flavor and the macros fit our needs (we are on the vegan plan) the cost is great too! We current do two meals a day, five days a week for both of us and to be quite honest we don't spend any more than we did when we were playing the whole cook at home game. One day I left 3 thistle bags outside to be picked up when they dropped of the new delivery but the driver didn't pick any of it up!! I messaged them about this incident and they said they could not pick up the bags! For a company that prides itself on sustainability that it is even on its website this seems like it is very wasteful. I have no use for these really nice bags so I will just have to throw them away as space is also at a premium in LA housing and we have no room in our house to hold four large thistle bags. When a company advertises their commitment to the environment and its sustainability pledge and they don't live and breathe this concept, it just seems so inauthentic to me and that everything is just a facade and just a marketing ploy. Some of the food is great which is amazing for convenience and saving time and some of the food has really odd flavor profiles that just sit in my fridge then are eventually thrown away. I'm going to have to start going on the website and selecting what meals arrive and removing others each week. If that doesn't improve it, then I'll cancel. I will say it does arrive on time and makes cooking and eating enough food very convenient. Some of their salads are amazing and others are really heavy with really odd combinations (to me). Oftentimes, I can already tell I'm not going to like something by reading their ingredients and looking at it at this point and so I'll just leave it, which is a waste, but the truth. Some of their dinners are amazing like the lemon pastas, but then I had a risotto this week that is an abomination to the dish risotto (which I love) and was basically just a soggy, wet quinoa and lentil bowl. I've been finding lately that it's a lot of the same ingredients recycled throughout the meals even within the same day. For example, I was given a pinto bean salad and pinto bean bowl within the same day. Similar veggies, spinach, etc. too. If they had more variety and if more of their meals were tasty then this healthy meal delivery service would be a slam dunk. read more

I thought I would try Thistle but it did not work out. First of all, while they claim to honor people's allergies, they actually do not do this in a comprehensive way. They only make adjustments to meals if people are allergic to particular foods like peanuts, coconut, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and a couple others. If you are allergic to other things like I am, they will not accommodate you. I happen to be allergic to flax, oats, chickpeas, hazelnuts and macadamia nuts. I looked at one of their menus for a week and most of the dishes had either chickpeas, oats, hazelnuts or macadamia nuts in them. They will make substitutes for tree nuts for example but not oats, chickpeas or flax. Secondly, it was annoying that once I decided not to order from them, it was impossible to delete my credit card. There is no way to delete it once you have uploaded it. I had to cancel my account instead, which makes me believe they still have my credit card number in their system. Lastly, it is very easy to inadvertently choose a subscription plan, once your credit card is uploaded. I had decided I wouldn't order from them because I wasn't certain they would accommodate my allergies. A few days went by and when I went back to see if there was anything I could safely eat, I noticed a week's worth of meals had been ordered and was scheduled to arrive in 4 days! Be careful as you scroll through the menu because you could be selecting a subscription and not even realize it. This is a huge issue and nuts (excuse the pun) that this could happen so easily. Luckily, I reached out to the customer support via email and Joseph cancelled the order. I never even got an email confirming the accidental order! The fact that they don't have a customer service phone number where you can actually speak to a person live is also big red flag for me. Imagine going to a restaurant and having to email the chef or manager about a problem with one's food. In my opinion, when we are dealing with food, customers should be able to contact someone live, with immediacy. Maybe I'm just old fashioned this way. read more
