But I have a good friend who is a bourbon connoisseur and was on FaceTime to help me Someone suggested that I go to fancy free on Burbank Boulevard. They had some decent bottles of liquor there, but not a good selection of bourbon. So I went to Yelp and a place close by was recommended. I called Alameda liquor to make sure that I was not gonna make another unsuccessful trip. The young man, I spoke to told me I'd called the right place because they had one of the best bourbon selections in the area. He did not disappoint. They have some great bottles at all. Price ranges. He was also very kind and respectful to me as I was completely ignorant, but he worked with my friend on the phone to pick a perfect bottle for a holiday gift. Whether you know what you are doing when choosing a bottle of liquor or not, this place not only has the variety of choices, but also the knowledge and patience to work with you for the perfect bottle.

They sell individual cocktail bags, a little grabby of mixers and minis, sometimes with fun accoutrements like edible glitter, rock candy, or an actual drinking vessel that you can keep forever (I've seen a moscow mule mug and a tiny cantarito). They're priced from $9 to around $20, and the store gives you one straw and one cup of ice per bag. This definitely isn't a place I'm going to revisit anytime soon. Prices on so much are a mystery,…read moreand I don't have the patience to keep taking whatever looks interesting up to the front counter to find out how much it costs. Having picked out two different cans from the beer cave, the clerk at the front counter rang them up and said "12". I paid, then headed into the L.A. night.... At a red light just down the road, I looked at the receipt: $12.93. Then it hit me that these didn't ring up correctly, and saying just "12" felt deceptive. Thankfully, I had asked for a receipt. One beer rang up as $5.39, and the other $6.39. Back at Circus Liquor a minute later, I pointed out to the same clerk that he had overcharged me... one can absolutely had a $4.99 sticker on it (and I, incorrectly, thought they both did). Pointing out the pricing discrepancy, he pointed at the can that didn't have a sticker and said "That one is $5.99." The receipt showed neither beer rang up at that price. Luckily, an older gentleman also working behind the counter stepped in at that moment and asked how we could resolve this. He offered for me to swap out the $4.99 beer for one more expensive to make up for the difference. That was fair enough for me. Yet, with the lack of prices, I looked for a fair trade and felt like my choices were limited. There are plenty of other options around and plenty that are completely transparent with their prices. Thus, I have no plans to stop by Circus Liquor again. If you do visit, I strongly recommend you ask for a receipt and check it! A second star is given only because the older clerk did a good job of diffusing the situation. The other guy was no help.

I strolled in for a refreshment on the weekend and the store is very clean and well laid out with a ton of wine, beer and spirits about. They have glass divider at checkout and have some decent health and safety procedures in place (mask are required). The owner was personable, but not really friendly if that makes sense. I tend to walk around a lot and usually with a backpack of satchel making any purchases easy to carry. I guess he was a little "fearful of my backpack knocking into things, even though this never happened. Since I was the only customer at the time I felt like I was being watched like a hawk. The really surprising part about Reese is they have an adult video section in back of all things. I guess they're going for the full service shopping experience. The snacks are terrible overpriced here but I got some things to support this local business. Not sure I'd stop in again, but also will be a little more aware of the little things here. The parking lot is pretty easy as is street parking.

He always seems to be doing something more important than serving you, in the back room or somewhere else, that he's had to begrudgingly break off from to help you. The younger guy who works back there some days is just the same-----with a military stiffness and a "let's-get-this-over-with" flair to the transactions he handles. He always calls me "sir" if he calls me anything-----not sure if he's the owner's son but I wouldn't be shocked to find out he is. My wife, being the generous good-hearted soul she is suggested Burbank Reese as a stop-off-for-wine-and-beer place before we've gone to parties several times, and there was nothing about the experiences that would incentivize me to ever do it again. The last time we did this we were checking out the wines in the cooler waaaaay in the back of the store and the owner was suddenly interested in us--------not as a sommelier but to keep an eye on us in the most obvious and obnoxious way in case I wanted to stick bottles of his wine down my pants and up my wife's party dress so we could leave without paying. (We've owned a house in Burbank for 12 years and don't steal.) We bought 2 pricey bottles and a 6-pack anyway but as far as I'M concerned, it's buh-bye to this place as far as any future liquor expenditures are concerned, especially since the owner was very *blah* about the fact that we just spent $60 in his store. P.S. If you like the lottery, they have a big display of Scratchers right in your face at the front counter, but the owner doesn't give you the impression he enjoys dealing with them or the lotto games. Also they have a Scratchers machine next to the main entrance that is unplugged most of the time. (To save electricity?) When I asked the owner why it's unplugged his answer was something like: "the tickets are all the same." ALL THE SAME??? What if there's a $10 million winner in the unplugged machine?
