When you're one of those dorky music aficionados seeking out obscure records like Can's Tago Mago, Smiths bootlegs, or just trying to reconnect with selections from Steely Dan's discography, Third Eye is a tiny little wonder shop. It's the stuff dreams are made of. The first time I visited Third Eye, I was actually hoping to find a copy of Ege Bamyasi (my favorite Can record), an uncommon beast despite recent reissues. As luck would have it, the first time I strolled into the shop it was staring at me, right out front. Could you ask for a better introduction to this fine establishment? Just on that first visit, I was blown away by Gary's (the owner's) eclectic selection. Though it might seem that Third Eye doesn't have a lot of records, even when comparing to the likes of Atomic Records or Soundsations just up the 405, the beauty of Third Eye Records is the simple layout, and you'll find fine rarities for better prices than just about anybody else--and in great shape! Other than the outstanding and affordable records, Third Eye boasts a collection of clever and cool t-shirts, badges, pins, posters, leftovers from the 90s VHS/DVD music doc era, and more. The outside might not seem like much, and depending on your taste in record stores the interior might not either, but take a look. It's well worth it, and the staff is always very friendly and down to earth (and always spinning peculiar records!). For me personally, this is a record store to call home. There is a sense of community within the shop itself, and even if you only stop by once in a while, you'll always feel welcomed as a friend. I've yet to find a better, more interesting record store that caters to my own eclectic taste. There are some of the finest record stores in the country down here in LA County, and Third Eye currently stands as my favorite. Amazing place. read more

After stopping at a nearby coffee shop for an espresso drink , I noticed this record store, and had to check it out. The record store is located in the back of a clothing store. It is much smaller than fingerprints, but you shouldn't miss it if you look. I walked in and started looking through the records. I soon discovered that this record store had a TON of things that I wanted. Not only that, the prices for the records were awesome. Previously I had only ever seen John Fahey records on sale for at least 28 bucks. I happened upon The Can , which I hadn't seen in other store, and a number of other LP's I had to have. Needless to say, I am gonna have to be careful about going here, or I'm gonna be broke! The guy who was there offered to let me use the record player to listen to vinyl s before I bought them. Which I also think is awesome. I don't think I would, because I am always worried about accidentally scratching records or breaking needles or something. But, it was still an awesome offer. Great selection of music, especially for jazz, punk. R&B, psychedelic, and shoegaze records. Owner gives great recommendations, so he really knows his stuff. There's always a record that I feel I just have to buy. They also have a mini record player so that you could listen to the unsealed records before you buy them. read more

I was in the area, so I made a point to check out this store as I'm always interested to see what gems a record store may have for me. My usual experience with record stores outside of a few staples in LA has mostly been terrible; overpriced, poor selection, LPs in poor condition, and some combination of those things. So I never have high expectations when I walk into a new place. After a few minutes of thumbing through the bins, this place really surprised me. Great selection, solid deals, cool atmosphere. If I lived in Long Beach this place would be my staple. I'll definitely be back to dig through these bins again. read more

This is a cool little record shop located in the middle of all the hip restaurants/bars/shops in Long Beach. They have a great 99 cent bin and some nice $4.99 and under bins among the regular priced vinyl. Not a huge shop but they have a nice, decent collection going. They also sell shirts, pins, vintage stereo equipment and whatnot. The staff was nice and helpful and smiling and happy the whole time I was there. I stopped in here one afternoon, while exploring Long Beach. I was walking down 4th Street and didn't even recognize the shop was a record store until I had almost passed it. Glad I stepped in after all, because I picked up a near-mint Paul McCartney album for $5! They have a pretty respectable number of records, in addition to shirts, books, posters, etc. And there are at least five $1 record bins! Love it! read more

Favorite vinyl shop to visit regularly! Owners great and fair prices. I go once a week and dig through the bins. Only gripe would be the stickers for the price tags seem to be stickier than usual, but I have gotten used to pulling those off fairly clean. Love this place! Amazing collection of psych records and other awesome obscurities (which is what I'm into) as well as more mainstream stuff, but I come for the heavy psych! I grabbed some awesome LPs well below what I would expect to pay at other/bigger shops around Los Angeles, including an original pressing of an early Boards of Canada EP! Awesome store, great selection, helpful owner...So groovy!!

I could go on and on for paragraphs about how amazing this place is but I'm going to do my best to keep this short. First of all the owner of the shop is a great resource for finding out about new music, if you tell him what kind of music you're interested in he always finds a cool new album for you to check out and everything in the store is reasonably priced. Secondly, I recently purchased a turntable from Third Eye and although it worked perfectly in the store it wouldn't spin at the correct speed when i got it hooked up at home. When I went back to Third Eye and explained the problem the owner was extremely understanding, he gave me the options of a full refund or a partial refund to put towards having the belt replaced. I went with the partial refund and when replacing the belt didn't fix the problem I brought the turntable back and he gave me a full refund! The amazing selection and incredible customer service at this store cannot be beat, I highly recommend a visit to Third Eye! read more

Third Eye Records is a hidden gem in Long Beach. Great used selection, although you gotta swing by more than once a week to catch all the real goodies. Good picks move fast through those doors. Reasonable prices on new and used. You won't get caught paying $14.99 for a used Bryan Ferry LP here. The owner knows his music and customer base. If he doesn't have something its because someone bought it before you. If you see something you need online, in my experience the owner will hold it for you. This shop has been around in one form or another for over 10 years and the owner has been a music buyer of new and used for double that time. In this Spotify age its nice to see a record store that actually stocks independent music, not just the Urban Outfitter flavor of the week. Do yourself a favor and check out Third Eye Records, you'll either find what your looking for at a good price, can order it or get turned onto something you didn't know you love. read more
