I came vintage shopping on fourth street to try to find some disco items for an upcoming party. I stumbled upon this store and loved all the hand picked items I found here. The staff is quite helpful if they have a moment. Be patient with them too, though cause there's always a lot of stuff going on. I have had Yelp forever without leaving reviews I more or less used it to check reviews for places I wanted to try out...I do not know how there is this high of a rating because there's no way I'm the only person this woman whom I've seen before working "blonde" older at this place was so disrespectful too. Not only did she try to accuse me of ripping a very used white prom gown. Lots of layers to the dress and clasps. My sister who was with me waiting out side the room can vouch on my behalf that I told her before putting it on there's a rip in the back of this dress that was almost 200$ and already stained..lol What a way to try and get a sale...and then proceeded to remind of the difference between thrift and vintage. Babes it's recycled and purchased and used all the same! I respect it and get it but couldn't believe that. As well as standing by the changing room while I was in there and then my sister. Way to expensive, nothing thrifty about this place. Sure they might sell some "vintage" clothing, but unless you want to spend an arm and a leg for one item I'd avoid this place at all cost. 03/13/19 @ 3:15 p.m. The White woman at the register had friendly conversations with the White customers who were in the store when we came in, and the White customers who arrived shortly after we did, but did not even greet us (two Black women). When those people left, she still didn't say a word to us. She did, however, make a big show of following us to each rack we were browsing. It was clear she thought we were going to steal, so she pretended to straighten the racks so she could keep an eye on us. We planned to buy about $200 worth of items for a costume party we have coming up, but we set the items down and took our business to a vintage shop that doesn't practice racial profiling. Blonde lady behind the counter was friendly enough and ended up allowing me to hold 2 items until the end of the day after I realized they didn't accept Apple Pay/didn't have enough cash to pay on the spot. Experience was overall positive, laid back store atmosphere, cool (but small) selection, and I happened to be the only person shopping mid-week. However, it struck me as odd that I wasn't allowed to hold onto my items was browsing the store. For context, I'm white, 19, female, and don't have a lot of money (hence why I'm shopping secondhand). When thrifting, I like to grab a couple things and then sort through at the end and do a quick look-through to make sure I still love the items and there aren't any flaws/major damage. Instead, as I picked stuff up, the woman would take them out of my hands and bring them up to the register (which I assume is another method to limit stealing). After driving 30 minutes back to pay for my items and then taking a 6-hour plane home from my trip the next day, I noticed a rip right around the crotch of the cutoffs I bought for $40 (used). I totally get that stores are struggling now, I happen to be a secondhand seller too, but putting sales/loss prevention above customer satisfaction is a major turnoff. If I had been able to hold onto the shorts while I looked around the store, perhaps I would've been more likely to notice the rip beforehand and ask for a lower price/not purchase them at all. Had a more comfortable experience at Meow and didn't feel as though I was being watched by a hawk the whole time lol. read more

Came her a couple times over the course of a week. My husband bought a great shirt for him to wear at his 40th birthday party. We wanted 1970s attire since he was born in 1976 I saw a fur coat that would've been perfect for my outfit. We asked if I could rent it. I also mentioned that we were flying to Ohio the 22nd - 27th for this party we were buying clothes for. The girl there said it was okay, but normally they wouldn't. I expressed my gratitude and appreciation for her kindness. I didn't get it that day because I was renting it. So I planned to go back later in the week Later in the week I stopped by there to look for some shoes to go with my outfit and talked about the coat again, this time with the owner. No issues were expressed on her end only that they usually don't rent out right now. Again I expressed gratitude. I don't find any boots and went to another store. Then I went back on Sunday before thanksgiving to rent the coat to have it out of the store the minimum time that I could. I would've had to rent it for 7 days because I was going out of town, which I made clear to the Girl the first time we discussed and owner the 2nd time I came by for the boots. I come in today and I'm filling out the rental paperwork and the owner starts saying she isn't comfortable with the amount of days it would be out of the store. I then said that this was all explained to the girl I had the discussion with before. Then she says "okay, just this one time." I said thank you and then she goes "so you can bring it back on Sunday?" I replied "no because I fly back into town on Sunday night and you'd be closed so I'd have to bring it by Monday." Then she came to say no, she couldn't do it Because it would be out too many days. Seriously?!?!?! What a shitty thing to do. I would've paid more for the rental if that was the issue. But what a shitty thing to do right before my trip, especially knowing that I've been coming in throughout the week. I'm on a time constraint. Now I have to go to another store to find a jacket. Honestly. She would've made $50+ from me plus the $120 selling it after me. So she could've made $170+ on that coat worth $25. I went down to MEOW and got a better coat for less and the service was 100% better. I was really liking this store and the people there until they pulled this fast one on me. This place is by my far, my favorite vintage store on 4th Street. While it may not be packed wall to wall with tons of vintage clothes that will sit there for ages, I think the owner does a fantastic job at picking good clothes. I think she has an excellent eye for vintage styles that are actually wearable. Everything I have purchased, from skirts, shirts, hats, pins, and books, I have been immensely happy with. Wow! I just returned from my second foray to Faroutfit & have to write about my experience! This is definitely my favorite "new" vintage shop on 4th street's Retro Row. There is an amazing collection of vintage clothes, accessories, furniture, etc here. The owner, Johanna, is knowledgable and friendly. The selection of clothes is amazing & eclectic. Joanna is a curator extraordinaire. Her shop alone is transportive, add her charm and ease of conversation and you'll never want to leave. I swear if she offered tea or coffee she would never get rid of me. Everything is extremely well organized. If you walk in looking for a short sleeved blouse, there's half a rack waiting for you. A colorful dress circa 1980's? Back of the store on the right etc. If you walk in having no idea and allowing the Universe to guide you, you will find one of a kind treasures. She also has a small collection of furniture throughout. I recently bought two velvet upholstered lounge chairs from her. At first I thought I couldn't fit them in my car and she offered to load one into hers and drive it to my house for me! She cares about her customers, her store and her place in the community. Her prices are very reasonable. Some of the new shops on 4th are charging Melrose prices for things you know they found at Goodwill. I was visiting my friend in Long Beach awhile ago and he had a flyer for Far Outfit so we thought it would be worth checking out. I honestly had a difficult time trying to not buy everything in the store because it was all so cool. I'm really glad that shops like this exist because shopping in vintage stores is way more satisfying than buying cheap garbage from Forever 21. The owner was also extremely friendly/personable and talked to the two of us as if we were already friends which was refreshing since I'm from Phoenix and am used to people being rude as hell.
